Seven young ladies from across the island will compete for the title of Miss Wob Dwiyet 2013 at the Old Mill Cultural Centre on October 24.
Below is a brief introduction to each contestant.
Tasia Floissac – East
Tassia is born under the sign of Aries and she is from the beautiful village of Atkinson. She is a graduate of the Dominica State College, with an Associate’s Degree in Literature and Sociology. She would like to become a lawyer in the future as she wants to be an advocate for the innocent and those who are unable to speak for themselves. Tassia is ecstatic about participating in this year’s National Wob Dwiyet pageant, as she sees it as an opportunity to showcase her talent and give back to her community. She urges everyone to come out to this year’s National Wob Dwiyet pageant where she says you will witness, gam, talent and creativity of a lifetime.
Germiamah Junkere – South West
Germiamah Junkere is from the flower basket of Dominica, the village of Eggleston. She is currently employed as an Administrative Assistant at Pioneer Prep and aspires to become a Civil Engineer in the future. Her journey towards her future career has already begun as she holds an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering, from the Dominica State College. Germiamah is no stranger to the stage as she currently holds the title of Miss Heritage, a pageant held in her community for the first time this year. It was this experience, her love for culture and her heritage that inspired her to become a participant in this year’s National Wob Dwiyet pageant. She stresses that the Independence season is her favourite time of year, as she enjoys the bold colours of the madras fabric and the various ways our Dominican people wear it, especially on Creole Day.
Zethra Baron – South
Zethra is from the picturesque fishing community of Fond St. Jean, situated on the south of the island. Born and raised in this community her most treasured memories were spent at the bay side, cooking fish and “giving Kont”. She describes herself as being outspoken and jovial. Zethra will be graduating this October with an Associate’s Degree in Psychology and would someday like to become a Behaviourist. She enjoys every aspect of the Independence season, however the food and the festivities are the things she enjoys the most. Her love for Art, the Dominican culture and the honour of representing her community of Fond St. Jean and the entire South, is what inspired her to become a participant in this year’s National Wob Dwiyet pageant. Zethra emphasises that, on the night of October 24th, persons should expect a bold sense of creativity, originality, class and elegance from a vibrant young lady.
Leoma Prince – South East
Leoma is from the culture loving community of Grand Fond. She describes herself as being outspoken, likes to have fun, and enjoys being involved in positive things in her community. The traditional dances and the National Dress of Dominica are some of the aspects she admires about her country. In addition to that, she expresses that the Creole songs are her absolute favourite facet of the Independence season. She describes that, this passion for the Creole song originates from being immersed in the presence of Creole language all around her as a child. Leoma’s interest for being a participant in the National Wob Dwiyet pageant was ignited at a very early age, as she was a competitor in several shows growing up. She also captured the title of Miss Wob, when she was a student at the Castle Bruce Secondary School. On the night of October 24th, she strives to put on an excellent show, and she sees her participation as expressing her love and appreciation for our culture.
Marissa Thomas – North
Marissa is a proud representative of the Northern district in this year’s National Wob Dwiyet pageant. She sees this is as an opportunity to highlight her village of Vielle Case on the cultural map. She is ambitious and hard working, with moral values that are self motivating and are attributes to being a positive role model to her peers. With the goal of becoming a successful lawyer she has laid her educational foundation at a tender age, which began in her village of Vielle Case and later continued at the Dominica State College, where she obtained an Associate’s Degree in Sociology and Psychology. Marissa describes herself as being a socially oriented individual who is very easy going and jovial. She also takes pleasure in dancing and meeting new people. Marissa has always longed for the opportunity to carry our beautiful National Dress with grace and poise and her dream has at last coming true.
Jaime Abraham- North East
Jaime is from the Kokoy capital of Dominica, Marigot. She is a teacher at the Wills Strathmore Stevens Primary school. Singing, reading and writing songs are some of the things that she enjoys in her spare time. Being involved in her village cultural group, Jamie feels that it was only natural to be a participant in the National Wob Dwiyet pageant. She sees herself as being fun loving, likes to experience new things, meeting new people, but most importantly she has a passion for the Performing Arts. In the future Jamie would like to be a Counselling Psychologist, but is richly inspired by the National Dress of Dominica; she wears her madras throughout the year. She has a passionate love and respect for this unique dress.
Salina Joseph – West
Salina is from the cultural village of Dublanc. She is a soft spoken, quiet but energetic and creative individual. She is a recent graduate from a Culinary Arts course, where she was able to put her creativity to work, as she is keen on designing food. Her leisure pursuits include designing clothes, costumes, and food. She has been member of the outstanding Flamboyant Cultural Group of her community Dublanc for six years. Salina has an enthusiasm for the stage and loves a great competition, especially the cultural district festivals she competes in yearly. Her involvement in those festivals has given her the inspiration to participate in this year’s National Wob Dwiyet Pageant. Her future endeavour is to become an internationally acclaimed chef. Salina sees her participation in this year’s National Wob Dwiyet Pageant as an opportunity to share her creativity with Dominica.

It is just another pageant. I am more incline to vote for the dress designer/maker than the pretty-face model.
Talent that can be nurtured and developed to create jobs. generate incremental income, something that creates a product.
