Jercyl Merrifield copped the most points and the best in evening wear to win the Miss Noel crown at the Waraka Sewinal Festival held in Atkinson last Friday evening, December 16, 2011.
The show, presented by the Atkinson Primary School, saw six contestants competing in three rounds; talent, casual wear and evening wear respectively. Adella Florent, Daniella Laurent and Miya Davis captured the first, second and third-runner up positions respectively.
Miya Davis won the best talent round with a dramatic piece on sewinal. Crystal Winston won the best in casual wear. Jercyl Merrifield was presented with her sash and crown by Miss Noel 2009 Maiana James.
The show also included guest performances from Copee, former winner of the DBS Song Contest, the ACYM Sacred Dancers, the Atkinson Primary School Choir, Bann Akayo and 13-year-old drummer Jason Laronde.
Principal of the Atkinson Primary School, Alice LaRonde, in commenting on the Miss Noel Show, notes that the show is a training ground for the young contestants and a stepping stone to participation in national pageants. She points out that Nakita Bruno, a former Miss Noel went on to win the carnival princess title and later, the carnival queen title and several regional titles.
Another former Miss Noel, Siraya Timothy went on to win the Miss Wob Dwiyet Jersey, USA title.
