Karessah releases “Flush it”

Gregory “Karessah” Riviere has released his second song for this year’s Carnival season called “Flush it.”

The Marigot resident is an entertaining calypsonian and is no stranger to the stage.

In fact he was crowned Calypso King twice, first in 2009 and then the following year.

Karessah told Dominica News Online (DNO) that the song was conceptualized by him last year during the government’s Home Renovation and Sanitation Programme, which intends to eradicate pit toilets around the island and replace them with flushing toilets.

“So that is where the idea really came from,” he said, noting that he took the persona of a plumber for the song.

According to him, the concept of flushing things away is prominent in the song.

“The fact that there are people who are actually getting toilets but they do not have pipe-borne water, so I am saying that in spite of the fact you do not have pipe-borne water, you can still utilize the toilet by getting a bucket and you flush it,” he explained. “The other aspect of the song is what are you going to flush. Normally if you are flushing, you’re flushing something that is not good, something of bad quality. So I am basically saying, as a plumber, I am giving you some advise as to what are some of the things that you can flush.”

He added, “So corruption in government and corruption in the country, you flush it, injustice in the country, you flush it. Those are some of the things we would really want to flush and off course if you meet a minister molesting your daughter put him in the toilet and flush it.”

Karessah said one of the things that needs to be done is to sanitize the country and make sure that it is clean.

“So that is the reason why we are flushing it,” he stated.

Karessah  is one of the finalists seeking to dethrone reigning Calypso Monarch, Dennison “Dice” Joseph, and he said he is confident and on top of the game.

“Of course it has never been an easy road in the finals, every calypsonian is coming out there to really put on their best show and you cannot take anything for granted, you have to be on top of your game,” he said. “I won the monarch two times and I think that I have a certain level of experience on the big stage. We are talking about two songs and you have to be powerful in both songs. You have to be able to keep your audience and I think that is one of my strength.”

He also noted that his first song, “Call me Name” has created “some waves.”

“It is a song that is really able to stimulate a lot of discussion because of the line in that song,” Karessah stated.

Great Track! Reminds me of the great Sparrow and Kitchener. Karessah writing is beyond the levels of those who even judge him. He is simple but intelligent, witty and very creative. So far he has presented two BIG songs for 2015. ‘Call me name’, his other song has already made waves throughout the country placing him 1st in the Semi-finals. With this other powerful number, it is clear that this man means business. I believe the writing is on the wall. Go for it Karessah!!!!

How strange! The Calypso King for St. Kitts had a song with the same title for last Carnival (December 2014). I would love to listen to the lyrics

Well captured. You should not be sitting on the chinese toilet with the laptop on your lap. Whilst you are flushing your own self, do not bring others down with you. Man to man is so unjust.
