Alliance Francaise de la Dominique proudly presents, on the occasion of DOMFESTA 2011 Kareyce Fotso and Aly Keïta live in concert, on Wednesday May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Fort young Hotel.
Kareyce Fotso hales from West Cameroun and is known for her emotional and passionate renditions. In 2009, she was awarded the “Prix de la Francophonie” at the Francophone Games. She was also a finalist of the RFI Prix de Decouvertes: a star search competition, in 2010. Ms Fotso also masters the guitar and is sure to inspire with her compositions.
She shares the stage with Aly Keita, an Ivory Coast Balafon player. He was born in Abidjan in 1969. From a tender age Aly was introduced to the Balafon, a traditional African musical instrument, ancestor of the xylophone. He is a master in his own rights being dubbed the “King” of musical tuning; he has customized his sting and wood instrument making it one of a kind.
In his compositions, Aly speaks about everyday life, orphans and mothers, and men’s shame… The musical translation is that of a virtuoso of mallets. Aly becomes part of his instrument, caressing it with tenderness, striking it with force and at great speed. He is a magician, a sorcerer who expresses the joy of life through his art.
