A Laudat Primary School Teacher and 2013 Miss Dominica contestant grabbed the first ever ‘She’s Royal’ inaugural teacher’s pageant title at the Arawak House of Culture on Sunday night.
Nikisha Ann Philbert took awards for best futuristic wear/ teacher gone vogue with a prize of a Nokia Lumia 520 from Digicel, best response to question receiving another Nokia Lumia 520 from Digicel and best talent for which she got a gift certificate from Gracelyn’s one stop beauty spot.
She also received a gift certificate compliments Aturo’s Sports, a trip, compliments Express des Iles, dinner set from Choices and a weekend for two compliments La Flamboyant Hotel.
The first runner up position went to Delah Gachette of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School; she received a gift certificate from Continental Store, a dinner set from Choices and a Nokia Lumia 520 from Digicel. She also received the award for best beach wear.
Second runner up, Odessa Elie of the Convent High School, who is also the reigning Miss DSC Mass Jamboree, received a gift certificate from Aturo’s Sports, silver earrings from Julien’s Jewellery, a trip to St. Martin compliments H. H. V Whitchurch Travel and a dinner set compliments Choices.
She also won best in creative wear.
The other award went to Andria Andrew of the Wills Strathmore Stevens School for best in School uniform.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the show, Philbert said, “it feels great. I mean what else? I could say I did my best and it all turned out for the best”.
She also mentioned that she had very little time to prepare but in the end it was worth it.
She said the ‘She’s Royal’ title means a lot to her.
“It means a lot,” she stated. “I am a teacher and to be crowned the first ever ‘She’s Royal’ is a great achievement”.
Philbert said she will hopefully use her skills and talents to pass on to her students in and out of the classroom and believes that although she is unsure of what exactly gave her the upper hand in the competition, she felt very confident throughout the entire show.
Meantime, Initiator and Coordinator of the Pageant, Marie Antoinette Mora, told DNO that she felt proud of all the contestants.
“They put on a wonderful show and made us all proud. Preparing them for the show was a lot of work and we had a very short time-frame but the hard work paid off as persons attending the show expressed their total satisfaction,” she said.
Mora said further that she is grateful to the Dominica Association of Teachers for the opportunity to be able to execute a show of such high standard.
“Congratulations to all the winners for a job well done and hats off the Dominica Association of Teachers (DAT). It takes very special people to be willing to listen and open their minds to something different; to be receptive to new ideas and I would like to thank Mrs. Nicholas and the DAT for the confidence placed in me to execute this show to the highest standard,” she said.
The prizes should have been in the form of donations to the school or a school based cause…for example to the reading centers or arts department or IT or renovation money something…. after all it is a teachers pageant.
now back to teaching
Big up to Ms. Antoinette Mora!!!!!!!!! Fantastic Show!!!
picture
How is it the second runner-up gets a trip n the first runner-up gets a phone? I don’t get this…..
Congratulations cuz. Not up to that kind of show would have preferred something on the education side, since its to do with teachers but I guess the ayes have it, and I am happy my little cuz won all the same.
The pageant was very entertaining. The participants went all out. It was a great avenue for us to see teachers express themselves on stage. Well done DAT. Miss Laudat Primary deserves the title, She was consistent throughout.Congratulations. Stay beautiful inside and out and continue to be a positive influence.
Did anyone notice the symbol on laudat primary futuristist outfit. The symbol of the devil. So tell me if she didn’t have to win
Congratulations Miss Philbert .You are indeed ROYAL to us in Laudat and in the Roseau Valley.
Congratulations to the first winner and runners up. You have shown that you, too have talent and can be artistic. This includes the organizers of this pageant.
For teachers who year round concentrate on their teaching abilities and to teach the children well, know that “All work and no play makes Jack/Jill a dull boy/girl.”
Your evening of entertainment in the pageant surely did you well. We must laugh, sing and play and smell the roses since life is passing by. It also helps for a happy, peaceful and pleasant disposition which eliminates all frustrations.
I visualize you are already thinking of next year’s pageant or whatever you plan the activity for entertainment will be. Keep it up and pass it on to your successors. God bless!
all u too sot. find something better for the teachers to do.
All during the launching, interview, intro am hearing about the show will be about talent and creativity. and all u telling me Deliah got best swim/beach wear awaaaa man give jack her jacket Miss Convent Prep deserve her that award.
where are the photos
I don’t think this show was judge fairly. Convent High and Convent Prep were the eye of show. People waiting to see what these two were coming with at every round and they delivered.Sakway voleeeeee all u will never see good
I don’t see how convent prep did not receive the best swim wear and school uniform awards.Unbelievable!!
I suggest that Celia Nicholas look into uplifting the teaching service and help the younger teachers become a model in the academic development of their students. A talent show doesn’t help.Sorry, not a good choice.
Is it a follow fashion. TOO MANY FASHION SHOWS. Change the name and they follow the same procedure. Isn’t it teachers???
your royalty is with god and all will follow, you are much more yhan that my dear
Even God does not mind the diversion. It is said that God has a sense of humor. Why do you not have one? After all, they are human beings. There is a time and place for everything.
Why some people who won’t or can’t lift a finger to something worthwhile are the ones who always sit on the sidelines and critisise…. Haters, the money help your own children at their schools….shucks!
I think the judges were on their phones at the time of the swim suit and futuristic round. Convent Prep deserve these two rounds. The young lady worked the stage in her swim suit, I have never seen that before, there is no way futuristic sould not be giving to laudat. Are you telling me that in the future that teachers going to wear tights with just a barier for there front and back. Hell no . That was stollen from the young lady.
I would give 1st runner up that trip to SXM though,it seems 2nd runner up got better prizes than her. Just an observation.Congrats Miss Laudat Primary School. whoop whoop.
I was wondering too, Convent got more prizes than any of the contestants although she did not get the title.
money-making.
Nothing DAT has to do.
yeah any photos..way de photos hury dno find dem pics for us

far to many pageants. Frivolous, boring, same old repetitive nonsense. Why not have an intelligence competition instead.

True. AA Celia give teachers something unique that students can look up too!!.
Great minds think alike
You obviously weren’t at the Show. The unenlightened should remain quiet.
