Emerging calypsonian Narrin ‘Trendsetter’ Murphy has released a witty new calypso for the 2011 Carnival season.
The song, produced at Cotton Grove Studio by Krishna ‘Dada’ Lawrence, states that women give their partners a ‘ready made jacket’, ie women who get pregnant for other men and claim that their partner is the biological father.
According to Murphy who wrote the song, he got the idea to write about ‘jackets’ because “the jacket phenomenon has been plaguing the Caribbean and international world for some time silently so I decided to voice it. Too many times you go and get suits made and get the wrong fit (laughs).”
Murphy has been singing calypsos locally for the past four years. In 2009 he challenged for the Road March title with the controversial hit “Lie on the Man.”
He states that his goals for this season are to increase his name recognition on the local calypso scene, advance further in the calypso competitions, and of course to give the patrons a good and exciting show at every performance.

Time for the Dominica Calypso Association to introduce public voting into the competition ‘X Factor’ style. they could even sell MP3’s to the voting public thereby raising money for the association and the calypsonians at the same time. It would raise a lot of money from overseas… I would definitely take part!
