MFR is no more- Ncore is here for sure

Ncore band members

A band which took Dominica by storm in its short span of existence-Music For Real or MFR as it was widely known- has come back with a promise to take Dominican music to a the next level but under a new name, logo and management.

Ncore, as the seven member group now stands, is seeking to broaden its horizon and gain international recognition with a slightly new twist to the genre of bouyon music.

Ncore presented itself, logo and brand new single “After Life” at an official media launch at the Flamboyant Hotel this morning.

The song, which was produced and sung by Edmund Telemaque, was written to reflect a true near death experience by one of its band members.

Leader of the band Josiah Pierre-Louise, sought to clear rumors and questions which have been raised about the band’s dissolution after last year’s carnival.

He explained that all but one of the member MFR band are now members of Ncore.

“We are gathered here today to present to you our music sector to the Dominican public, the region and the international arena a new name, a structured team, a new sound to the genre of bouyon music, a solid musical organization that’s of standard, one of which we differentiate our past from our present and spearhead our future,” he said.

“Operations were dissolved by the proprietor after a five year run. Due to the refusal to come to an agreement based on recommendations made by the musicians, those of whom are present right here today with an exception,” he stated.

Pierre-louise said that the break up has only led to the strengthening of the band.

“There is a saying that goes, [in life you gotta break grounds to make grounds.] Following the dissolving in 2010 we the former members sat through various meetings on ways in which we were to go to get things back to full force and to a better standard. Because of our passion, our dream of affecting he world positively through music and bringing a change to entertainment this was not yet accomplished. We also used this as an opportunity to study the art of music and the music business. We received both negative and positive views from the listening public through this brought birth to the new name of Ncore,” he said.

The band leader assured that the musicians “present here are no longer and will never again operate under the name or any company as MFR- Music For Real Band. We now operate under the name of Ncore.”

Based in Portsmouth, Ncore already has a packed schedule, as it is down to play its first gig in Guadeloupe on February 18 in Guadeloupe. They will return to Dominica on the 19th for the opening of carnival in St Joseph, February 20, opening of Portsmouth Carnival and 25thSoca Monarch at Carnival City. The new name was inspired by the word ‘encore’, which means again.

Chief Cultural Officer, who chaired the media launch, welcomed the new band and encouraged them to overcome the challenges that will come their way.

Minister for Culture Justina Charles also congratulated Ncore, stating that they should join forces with other local musicians in bringing Dominica’s music to the world. She spoke against rivalry among bands, studios and other music entities on the island and said they should strive for excellence.

Ncore operates through investments from a French-based K &K Company-their management.

Cee Media, which is owned by Carlos Charles, is responsible for the band’s bookings, media and marketing relations. Ncore was said to have already gained a solid base in Guadeloupe.

Kendra Stephens stands as secretary and accountant.

sometimes you have to seek information before you talk. all what you see here josiah have been the driving force in making all this possible and have made sacrifices. and thats was these guys were looking to have possible for along time. transparency and a structured team. josiah never controlled any money of MFR rather he was the one that would always fight and stand up for the guys when they looked to rub them off their hard work. This is why he still stand s as Band leader Cause the guys have placed all their trust in him for the work that he did and is still doing. this is now a real company what it should have been all along. you speak of one with personal grudge against josiah. but i know him personally and he never take worries and let anything bother him, he’s probably just laughing at you.

Hope you guys really take bouyon to higher heights than this low standard rubbish we’ve been hearing for the past few years (back off low level thinking bandwagon trolls-u know its true) and make bouyon a genre that is well known and fully established internationally. Keep ideas outside of the box at all times and always keep your listeners guessing for what will come next…and please don’t just set a trend…set a STANDARD. A genre like Hip hop shows how setting trends only kills the genre and raises a selective set of artists for blind fame (yes hip hop is dying and please don’t try to debate it…the graveyard is already there). Make bouyon something in depth not just on the practical side but make it full and rich with a substance deep in the foundations of musical theory so if someone wants to learn to play the genre in latter years they can see there is more to it than meets the eye…

Big up to NCORE! As MFR you guys were dynamic and showed much promise. Now I see you have revamped and reloaded and that effort should be applauded since many bands hit the dust and stay there permanently but you guys have risen again.

My humble advise to you is to listen to all critics and try to sift the best ideas from all. Remember you sometimes hear your faults from your ‘enemies’ rather than your friends who only want to show you the ‘good’ side.

Try to appeal to a broad audience ie young, old, rich, poor, local,non-local etc that way your profitable existence will be guaranteed. Keep on improving and experimenting but still maintain a steady theme that can be linked with you. Take your time, do the right thing and your fame will come sooner or later.

another distorted noise machine….what a shame that kind of music boyon in the early days of the mid 80s had weight..but many moons after it has clouded and left a negative impact on the youth in terms of extremly disgusting and poor lyrics…

do they really listen to their playback and feel statisfy with that kind of distorted sound..
those bands lack claritiy in their sound.
everyone one is excessively loud with no arrangement and squencing…how can this be marketed world wide, where Top Pros in the industry set standards in terms of vocals, arrangement and overall production ethics…..

its time the Boyou is dusted and revamped to international standard world wide and not for a jam session which does open up any new avenues..

Music is class element, should be prided not for only loose throw away lyrics but depth that can break barriers and new horizions…

we must seek for higger standards if we have to compete on the global stage and stop beating ourselves on the chest thinking we have done a world of good when its only a lower end sub standard product!!…..the sky is the limit…..

Please dust off the Boyon slackness and come with something with weight and class…

Not a Distorted radio mic sound with all that static!!

      February 8, 2011

u, my friend, are what we call a know-it-all attention seeker. if you want to show up Bouyon musicians and show the genre things can be done better than why dont you start by making it better? it takes a lot of courage, patience, brainpower and confidence to start a band and make music but all it takes to run your mouth on the internet is a half assed feeling of being badass just because nobody gonna trace you back to your house… its the internet.

Bouyon is not the only genre in the world there are many genres of music and I am sure you can find a genre that appeals to you.

and the fact that u referring to deep lyrics and dissing NCoRE in the same post shows that you have not listened to their new song “Afterlife” because the music and the lyrics are deeper than you think.

With this we can say that you are being a bigot just to get peoples attention, even if it is negative… and negative attention is what you shall get. 9 Dislikes and going up.

I pray God these young men really come again, and be born again in the Name of Jesus. Too many of our young men selling out for game and fame. After life comes the judgement. That is what I know to be for real. Lord have his mercy on us all. I know they are going to have a huge following, but what was the price? And who paid that price?

All Domincans will see, the price of fame. Open your spiritual eyes they are dead closed! It has Nothing to do with religion, it’s about righteousness exalting a nation. They are sold out to the devil. Watch AND SEE.

I suggest that this band add a female to the vocal section, i think they need a female touch, may i suggest Royette Laurent, she’s from the North and from seeing her on the stage at Q95 Talent Search and the recent Calypso Quarters, i think she would be a good addition, she has very good vocal ability…

  36. PURE HONEY
    February 7, 2011

I agree if they strengthen the vocals the other elements will automatically be upgraded. When I listen to the singers of Triple k , WCK , former MFR and the other bands the vocals suck. The music is just pure noise. That reminds me of my last creole festival visit to Dominica . I’d never heard so much chaos in music – that included the music coming from the Montano guy from Trinidad, some Sean Paul dude from Jamaica and the Bouyon Band. If that is what music is now in the Caribbean then I guess I must now admit that I am old school.

Like Porssi Loyal say INCORE must place some emphasis on improving the vocal section. Why have three and four people upfront with microphones and the vocals still sound like a stone crushing plant.

    • makes no sense
      February 7, 2011

but some of this is due to the quality of the sound engineers to… The whole music performance thing needs tidying up in DA. Proper sound checks and setting of levels and proper EQ etc.

      • PURE HONEY
        February 7, 2011

There is a clear distinction between the quality of music that is musicianship and the sound and acoustic qualities . I do agree that much improvement is needed in the quality of the sound. Note that both elements are interrelated – a good sound engineer can maybe able to enhance the output on the vocals but cannot improve vocal harmony and melody..

        • makes no sense
          February 7, 2011

yep and a sh(* engineer can crucify good sound… i saw mfr many a time and the vocals were better than the system output. they were on time, in key, and had enough vocal clarity….

        • makes no sense
          February 7, 2011

PS and a poor system which is deviod of top end and midrange capabilities… pure bass distortion is common place inna DA

        February 7, 2011

@ makes no sense. I can attest to some of what you are saying. A lot of times that Mfr Played in the past, a lot of people wanted to hear them sound “big” like KKK. But i remember the engineer saying to me once, “it’s not about how loud you can hear them, but is If you can hear everything that is being said or played.
@ Pure Honey. I totally agree with you. No amount of sound engineering or equipment can make you sound good if you have no harmonies or vocal talents. if u cant sing then u cant sing. What i have found in the past and of late is that everybody wants to hear themeselves.

Ncore I wish you guys all the best. I do hope you guys took ALL the measures required to insure that what you went through will not happen again. Hope you all did the right things. The entertainment business can be viscous. Note that their will be individual looking solely to make money out of you sweat and toil. Respect each other and be professional in every way. Be on time for gigs and rehearsa and most importantly – TRANSPARENCY. We are well aware of what opaqueness can do- nothing for disenfranchisement and anger.

I am looking forward to see you guys transform our musical landscape. Like many others I am disappointed in the quality of music that we are producing in Dominica – particularly the Bouyon. I hope that you guys improve on the vocals- lead and backup vocals. The quality of vocal that I am hearing from the Bouyon band is ridiculous. Sometimes I wonder if this is just the trend or these so called lead singers and show men cannot sing at all. If NCORE is to attract an audience other than a Dominica based audience you guys must move away from the trend and focus on strong vocals. I believe that the band has the ability to strengthen the melodic and harmonic faculty
