Local singing sensation Michele Henderson performed for an audience of some 1,400 persons in Hollywood including celebrities and officials.
The event to which Henderson was privileged to attend was the 41st Anniversary Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre Gala on August 7.
Among the guests were actor John Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston.
The annual event highlights the humanitarian programs sponsored by the church—programs addressing drug abuse, human rights, moral values for a modern world, illiteracy and disaster relief.
California Congresswoman Diane Watson; Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Hollywood Division Captain Beatrice Girmala; Albert DeCady, Special Advisor to Haitian Ambassador Raymond Joseph; and the Liberian Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Nathaniel Barnes were the event’s guest speakers.
This lady have a brain people. Check out her background and it sells itself. She is no stupidy and I do not think for one minute that she is seeking our endorsement on her association with the outside world.
We are in no position to dictate to her. I know she is surrounded by much educated people in her family to guide her. No need to get involved in her personal doings.

I knew even from before scrolling down that the argument was going to be about the ‘church of scientology’. I’m a christian, however I do not think that we should take this opportunity to look down on michele or chastize her. The article did not say that she agrees with the beliefs of that church or that she is even remotely a part of them. She is a performing artist who grabbed the opportunity. Now even if she is a member of the church. That is her personal preference and even if you think she’s wrong, it is not the time to focus on that.
Lets focus on the fact that another one of our own is doing great in the industry, making a name for herself, putting dominica on the map, being true to herself and her culture and so much more. I just think we should stop looking for the next opportunity to bring down one of our own. Lets look at the example other countries are leaving.
They exalt their entertainers and leaders when they agree with what they’re doing and who they associate with, then grab the first opportunity to stab them in the back of the their necks when they disagree with something.
If in the end we see our sister promoting those beliefs then we can choose as inviduals whether to support her personally and listen to her music as opposed to making a scandal and making Dominica loook stupid.
Guys, come on! This is the technology era. Do some research. You would be surprised what you can learn when you open a book or do some research. What do we know about scientology? I don’t think that many intend to bring Michele down. I think person in are just intrigued by her performance and as another mentioned its bitter sweet. You want to be happy for and many Dominicans are but you are just concerned that she is joining the wrong set of non believers (if there is such a thing). Christians aren’t the best supporters and they have more skeletons in their closet than many persons who simply believe in a higher power without association to any religion.
Scientologist are very intriguing persons with a different set of cultish behaviour than most. There are many allegations and known issues with that group.

He need not mix the audience she performed for, with the fact that she was asked to perform. The fact is she got the opportunity to expose her talent to a wider audience. This is so bitter-sweet. It’s always wonderful when Dominica and Dominicans do great and impressive things and help bring Dominica to the world. However, we have to be careful what we align ourselves to. Being that Dominica is a majority Christian nation, I am somewhat surprised that so many people sent congratulations and God’s blessings to her for that performance. I’m left to wonder if they read the entire article, if they understood what they read, or if they read the title and looked at the picture. Your integrity is what keep your head up high. What ever you do you must not loose that. If she believes in what she has done and she has no problem with being affiliated with that sect, then I can congratulate her performance.
