Seven Dominican beauties will grace the Miss Dominica Pageant stage at the Festival City from 8 p.m. on Friday.
Spearheaded by the Dominica Festivals Committee and organized by the Queen Show Committee, the pageant will feature Miss Lime/DFC Cornillia Hazel, Miss Courts Dominica Ltd/Sub Zero Nasha Faustin, Miss Waitukubuli National Trail Michelle Joseph, Miss Malcolm Stephen and Sons Earlene Labassiere, Miss National Cooperative Credit Union Jacintha Fagan, Miss Lime/DFC/National Pest and Termite Control Ruth Augustine and Miss Petro Caribe Roselia Bazil.
The contestants were this week in the final stages of their preparations which started last October.
According to Chairperson of the Queen Show Committee Romualda Hyacinth, the show is expected to be of exceptionally high standard. She said she was confident that patrons would be impressed with the state of readiness of the contestants who will appear in costume, talent, swimwear, evening wear and interview segments.
“As we try to do every year, this year, the queen show committee along with the chaperones and team members, have worked tirelessly with the contestants to ensure that they present the public with quality performances on Friday evening,” Hyacinth said.
She said that final touches were being added to the costumes and the contestants were brushing up on their modeling skills with US based designer Roger Gary. Gary designed the contestants’ swimwear, while Alwin Bully and his team at Creative Dynamix, Dr. Lennox Honyhcurch, Darnley Guye and Nathalie Marshall-Joseph are among those hard at work on costume building.
Friday’s show will also feature a range of local performers including popular calypsonians, Q95’s Talent Search Winner Asher Thomas and the Fanatik Band.
Tickets are on sale at the office of the Dominica Festivals Committee and cost $40 (regular) and $75 (VIP).

You all don”t think it is time that we put an end to this unreconstructed anachronism from a bygone age? More enlightened societies see this for what it is … a promotion of style over substance … and appraisal of looks over intellect. And for the life of me I cannot think about a queen show without being reminded of slave auctions. Beyond the pressure it puts on our young women to look a certain way rather than value themselves intellectually and spiritually , it is just old fashioned and outdated.. Come on people … let’s move forward.
PS … God willing one of these young women grow up to become our Prime Minister or a prime business leader. This show will NOT have contributed to that progress and indeed is one on the obstacles that our society will have thrown in her way that she will have to overcome.
so whats wrong with style and looks? must everything be serious work, work, work? are u saying a pretty, stylish , intelligent woman can never be a leader? snap out of the medieval times, take a look around the real, modern world, wake up, smell the coffee, live a full life as a woman of substance, and learn to appreciate simple beauty tagged with poise, brain and intelligence!!!!!
Granted, this matter is a constant debate in our culture, I think we should look at the cup as being half full as apposed to being half empty. What can young ladies gain from such events? Could this be an incentive to work on confidence, public speaking skills, fitness etc? What about self image? I could go on & on.
I know this may not be an avenue for everyone, but to the young ladies with the COURAGE & CONFIDENCE to face a crowd, especially a DOMINICAN crowd, more power to you. I wish everyone of these fabulous Doimincan beauties, the best.
wow…dominica is filled with beauty…you guys ALL look like queen material. Enjoy the spot light ladies and good luck!
Thumbs up to all the brave ladies for participating in this event. Some of us know the hard work, dedication, courage etc. that one needs to take part in such an event.
When I was around your ages, I was approached and told by many that i should participate in the Miss Dominica Show, because i got the figure, the looks, the natural beauty, however, the many that were encouraging me to participate had no idea, that during my years at secondary school, I took part in a simple thing such as the secondary schools annual debate and though i was well prepared, trust me, I did my own research and I practiced, upon delivery, I completely froze for a minute or two. So i know, it’s not an easy road to face such vast number of people.
To Roselia you are no stranger to the stage……Go girl….you know you have our support, Continue to make us proud. And even if you don’t walk out as Miss Dominica, We will still applaud you. To the other ladies, you too, go, do your best. May the finest participate emerge winner. blessings to all.
I wish all of you ladies God’s grace and guidance. May he take away all fears you may have. However i must admit that I have great confidence in Mitchel Joseph making a great representative for Dominica. I think she is well spoken and intelligent.

Wishing all the girls blessings for that show. I pray that the performances will be greater than ever and the question and answer round impresses everyone witnessing that show. I want to see a standard of another level. Nothing less than the BEST.
