I am sorry but I m going to have to whole heartedly agree with your statement, the suit looks like something my five year old daughter should wear to go swimming. Ms Fegan, you are a grown woman in a contest like this you should probably have told the stylist that you needed something that covered you body but was designed in the last 10 years.

I am by no means implying that you have to be naked. By all means, none of the others are naked and they all look great and appropriate for their age and the setting of what the pictures are for. Far be it for me to criticize Ms Fagan because I do not know her nor do I know that she had an active hand in choosing this juvenile swimsuit. It just comes across as slightly creepy. It would be the same kind of creepy of a grown woman was being required to dress in schoolgirl’s outfit to satisfy someone else’s perverted fantasy.

In the US there is a saying’ Go big, or go home!!’ in other words, if you are not going to be on par with everyone else and give something your all, this includes what you are willing to wear for an occasion such as this, then you should not take part and do it half heartedly. Again ms Fegan this is feedback intended ot make you better not to tear you down. I hope you do not have body or image issues and you don’t feel that you are athletic enough to wear a more adult and modern suit. As far as I can see you belong in the company of the other girls because you are just as stunning as they are so take your rightful place and be the silver bullet that they never expected. Break out of your shell and you could win this. It is all in the mind and once you free that, everything else tends to fall into place. We will be watching for your swimsuit come game night. I know you won’t let us down!

I am of the opinion that the Carnival Queen Contestants should be judged from the moment they are launched and not solely on the competition night. All other major world pageants are done this way and I think you get a more ‘well rounded’ winner that way. Every time the contestants make an ‘official appearance’, they should have the opportunity to earn points that will go into their final score that they receive on the night of the show.

This process is not just grooming a young lady for a show where she will go up there and be a parrot that regurgitates everything that her chaperone says to say and/or do. Ms Dominica should have poise, grace, intelligence, good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact on an inter-personal level.

These are the qualities that have made past successful queens like Diane Francis, Marcella LaRoque, Francillia Agar, Darna Roberts, Mara Walters and Marcia Baptiste ultra successful in their reigns. These ladies, and i apologize for any that I neglected to name, brought home multiple titles and made us all proud. They made the Caribbean pageant community stand up and take notice of the quality and ilk of the women that Dominica produces.

I urge the trainers and chaperones to encourage these young ladies to express their personalities and opinions. An opinion is just that, it is neither right nor is it wrong and as long as said contestant is able to eloquently articulate her stance on a particular concept, topic, or phenomena extemporaneously, therein lies the talent.

To the contestants I say learn from this experience. Marcia and all the other former contestants and winners will tell you that this is a life changing experience. Use it to lean about yourselves and relish every moment of this wild ride. Not even the sky is the limit for any of you! Remember, on that night, there will be a winner and several of you would not have captured the title. However; within you will be planted a seed of things greater still to come. I hope that you will nurture that seed and show the world just how brightly your lights can shine. All of oyu make me proud. Keep your collective heads up, work hard, have fun and let the chips fall where they may. In the final analysis it is the journey not the destination that enriches you.

    Cheers!

The contestants are all beautiful. I must say that these photos say nothing much for any of the girls.

I had the pleasure of attending the pre queen pageant on Saturday and in my opinion some of the girls appear to be a bit too skinny and need to work on toning a bit.

Contestant number one impressed me with her smile and posture. I Think she is good in stage.

I was very impressed with contestant #4. She was the most outstanding at this preshow. She had much energy in her casual wear round and teased the crowd. This I felt was impressive. She was really gorgeous in her swimwear in my expert opinion as a fashion magazine contributor she was the best throughout the evening. She has firm strong legs and is nicely curved. I must say she impressed me in all her rounds but the swimwear and casualwas the most impressive.

I am hoping that I will get a chance to see the pageant online to see the outcome. I want to wish all the young ladies luck and remind them that practice is key in winning pageants.

Thanks for this opportunity to share.

Ok well I didn’t see the pre show but yes Earlene got nice curves but I find she’s too hefty. She can lose a pound or two just for the show. Luckily they introduce the contestants ot the gym because I saw Earlene in oerson and I don’t see curves so the gym helped her tone up which is good.Ruth got the nicest body though although she’s the skinniest but she’s also the prettiest. Wonder where the intellect lies? We’ll find out then.

cornillia has the best body she is well toned and has some nice curves…ruth is to thin n she is still not toned her body is to shaky for a slim girl…plus for being the thickest girl i find earlene looks rather nice

Wow where to begin. First off let me say that all these young ladies on first sight are very impressive and I commend them for being bold enough to step forward and represent their villages and Dominica, as a whole, in this competition. I am here to offer some constructive feedback from viewing these pictures. My comments have as much to do with the photographer and lighting as they do with the contestants/models and stylists who put these outfits togther for these young ladies. I will try to be brief and matter of fact about my observations. Let me also say that I reside overseas and have for a long time so I do not know any of these young ladies. My comments are based solely on looking at these pictures and having a professional background that involves aesthetics.

Best Swimsuit – Contestant #6 – Ruth Augustine, Kings Hill, followed closely by Contestant #2 Nasha Faustin and third would have to be Contestant #1 Cornillia Hazel. I think the low rise yellow bikini on contestant # 6 was by far the best choice of all the swimsuits and photographed the best against the lush greenery of the background. I though it showed off the contestant’s athletic build and the oil or lotion used on this contestant really went a long way to accentuate her extremely toned physique.

The yellow pumps worn by contestant #2 really raised her game in these photos, with her eyes, she connected very well with the camera and her body lines were elegant, bashfully playful, and could stand on par with many international models. She has great posture and knows how to find the sweet spot of the camera which is a quality that would make her easy to photograph. I would recommend she stays away from high gloss lipstick and play up her beautiful doe eyes to create a more dramatic silhouette with evening wear.

Contestant #1 is fearless, that is what first struck me about her swimsuit pictures. I am not crazy about the patterned printed swimsuit that she is wearing here. This contestant has a body that is different from the aforementioned two. She has more voluptuous curves and was not self-conscious at all in her photos. The photographer should have posed her in a more angular way to as to take advantage of the curves that she has. Also, I would recommend that she uses more solid colored swimsuits, featuring far less embellishment, which would contrast her beautiful skin tone and still be cutting edge without being too busy. I liked her make up. I think her pictures are better when she does not look directly into the camera. Also other advice to her would be to think the thought that she would like her smile and facial expression to convey. There are a couple shots where she appears borderline vacant and she must remember to use her eyes, face, and that beautiful smile to engage whoever is looking at the picture.

As someone who works in the field of fashion and asthetics, I hope these young ladies read this and consider my musings. Feedback is a gift and the wonderful thing about it is you can take it, choose what you feel is of value, and throw the rest away. I encourage all contestants to stay focused and continue to hone your skills for the night of the show. You all make us very proud.

My observations and musings are just that, opinions, which each of us possess. I do not purport myself to be right or even that people must agree with me. I do think that some of these chaperones need to come into the 21st century with what they decide to teach these young ladies in preparation for this competition. I wish the young ladies all the best. Nuff respect to Shannon and all the others for the work they do and the contributions they have made and continue to make to the industry.
