Eight mothers who will compete in the 2014 Carnival Mothers Queen Show, have been challenged, “despite the age of technology and the glitter and glamour”, to remain focused on ensuring that their offspring receive a proper upbringing.
The eight contestants, who were launched, include Tarickh Joseph aged 24, of Canefeild, Terrisa Bruno also 24, of Fond Cole, Cecilia Winnie Henderson 21, of Riviere Cyrique, Vanesa Louisy 20, of Pointe Mitchel and 32 year-old Ezra George of Bath Estate.
The other four are Heather Vidal aged 38, representing Portsmouth, Jasmine Joseph aged 19, of Mahaut and Patricia Charles 25, of Grand Bay.
“In this day in the planet, being a mother is not an easy road to take,” Events Coordinator at the Dominica Festivals Committee, Nathalie Clarke, told the contestants at launch event at the Old Mill Cultural Center on Saturday. “Because there are many things out there, the main one being the internet…there are so many things challenging our children as they grow up; there are so many things challenging you as you as you walk in your role as mom, that I would like to challenge you that you nurture your daughter or son,” she advised.
“Don’t be phased by the glitz and glamour and all the material things that this big old planet has, that takes us away from the fundamental things that we need to teach our children,” the DFC official stated.
Clarke also urged the contestants to teach their children the art of debating peacefully, to have an opinion, to be able to love and to play peacefully, to be helpful and also importantly, she pointed out, to be able to compete with a smiling face and still shake hands at the end of the day.
She cautioned the young ladies to aspire to be on time as a few of the contestants were late and others extremely late, in some cases.
Two of the participants have so far received sponsorship. They are Cecilia Henderson, who is sponsored by Jolly’s Pharmacy and Patricia Charles, whose sponsor is Diamond Girls and Diamond Girls Forever.
The Mothers Queen Contest is carded for February 22, 2014, at the Arawak House of Culture.
i wonder what is the criteria for such pageant because i doubt its keeping a son away from his father. Thats not the way
It’s interesting to see the things ppl say and do under false names. Culver lawrence and Hannah Matthew, stop hating. without a dime and penny from Culver Lawrance she is taking excellent care of her son.
good luck heather but stop let police go at your 11 yer old son father’s home to pick him up after a court order
Lets Go Papo!! We have tht On Lockk!!!…Lapwett Massive Wll be dre to support yuu!!! My Queen No matter What Happens!! Lets Go Vanessa!!! Yu Can Do Itt!!..Remember=Lapwett Girls Can Do It!!! (8)We Can Do It(8)

I wish all the ladies best of luck and may the best mother win. confidence goes a long way so show us what you got. My fav is Cecilia winnie Henderson just something organic and comforting about her.
The idea of having a mothers pageant isn’t bad but in my opinion this show should cater for women thirty years and older. When u have 19 and 20 year old included one have to wonder how old were they when the the got impregnated. Is being a mother so young a good example portrayed?
I’m a dominican who lives abroad and so love to see and hear such good news. I’ve taken part in competitions and must say Way to Go Heather. Possie all the Way .
Heather Vidal you have our full support in the library (Ross University)! U know the crew! You have that title in the bag already.
Rubbish! This is no news tell these girls go be a good example to their yutes! All thei koshoni going on in this place.
Goooooooooo Nine-toeeeee!!!!! You can do it!!! We Have your back!!!
Best of luck Heather, always knew you had it in you, happy you got that chance again, hope you show the possie Charm.
nice speech Marvlyn but tell Heather stop trying to fight with the woman in church in front of her child for a man she threw away 6 years ago
More of the same nonsense..
Alot of young mothers this year. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. Should I take it as we young people not taking our time or we young people are stepping up and being responsible. What ya’ll think?
It’s Carnival, there has to be shows and its good for the ladies, they gain from it…Good luck to all…
is best they send these girls to take care of dem yutes that have this rubbish of a so called show. I for 1 am tired of this rubbish. Most of them if not all of them are no example and the media parading them all bout the place. STUPES! Garbage!
you must be one of those “christians” who stay in their house and cry down carnival claiming its satanic but still having their televisions locked on channel 5 or right on Q!
Hey it’s an opinion. Don’t make it your personal issue. Am just saying stop fighting each other.
who are u to judge? Don’t u have cobwebs in yr closets? never cry down women u don’t know what will come yr way. I am a woman of experience
you tried and no one took you seriouly? Why are you so angry with what the LADIES are doing. 2014 time for a change
its are pleasure to see jamine joseph…she knows how to do her thing…..you go girl….
in my opinion mothers queen show should be for mothers with at least 3 kids and up . but i like the concept. congrats ladies. be the best mothers you can .
i wish i could have thumb u down three times. You are obviously not a mother to make such a foolish statement. a mother of 1 is no less of a mother than a mother of 9.
Best of luck Heather. I know you can do it.
just bring the crown to mahaut lol that is one show i have to go to to rep for my constituency all the best mahaut all the way
anyways miss joseph when u fall u get up and dust yourself, not need to let the devil drive u out like this
I agree with your sentiments. Sometimes how far, is too far. Go back to the days of yeah and nah!
Its good to have the ladies go out and express themselves.
out of so many young ladies at diamond is this the best they could offer go miss jolly n tarick
Way to go Jasmin!
@dno: Please find out when is the PLUS SIZE WOMEN SHOW that is what we like,
thanks DNO. will still support the Mother’s Queen Show.
Admin: We will look into it and post the information when available.
I think Mothers Queen should target women over 30
This is condoning teenage pregnancy! These children should still be in school. Such high expectations shattered by pleasure. Sorry parents, who now have more shame to hang their heads! SMH!!
All these pageants – we need more shows to encourage youths to be innovative and creative … to many fashion/modelling/self focus!
No disrespect intended : but aren’t these mothers rather young? Is the marginal requirement for entry ‘must have a baby’? if that’s all then you’all need a few more requirements and pronto.
These types of shows should not only be shows which are geared towards education but also should hold some sort of prestige.
Ebeh Ezra pa feb, she should just stay out of that.
how many queen shows do we have???!!! do we have the record? or does St. Kitts still hold the record?
wats ur point budman? where are u heading too? how is ur question relevant to the topic? u should go and do some research if you want answers to that particular question…google it…there is not the correct forum for this….smhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
