Motorcade planned for Miss Dominica’s Marcia Baptiste

2010 Queen Marcia Baptiste

A motorcade is being planned for Dominica’s 2010 Carnival Queen Marcia Baptiste when she returns to the island after placing third (second runner-up) in an international pageant in St. Maarten over the weekend.

Baptiste, though not winning any particular category, and notwithstanding an error in her introductory speech, managed to impress the judges and emerged second runner-up in the Miss Hibiscus Caraibes pageant.

Being the first Dominican in over 10 years to be represented at this past weekend’s pageant, Baptiste outshone 20 contestants who hailed from different parts of the Caribbean and Americas.

She is thankful for the support that she received from Dominicans at the show.

“All Dominicans were happy with my performance although I made a mistake with my introduction speech… lots of people thought if I did not make the mistake I would have won,” she stated.

She now says farewell to pageantry as Miss Hibiscus Caraibes was her final competition as Carnival Queen.

The motorcade will begin as soon as Baptiste lands at the airport in Marigot on December 12 at about 10:05 a.m.  The motorcade will stop at the Whitchurch Supermarket in Roseau for a supermarket sweep with King Karessah, then proceed to her home community Portsmouth.

Baptiste is the reigning Miss Caribbean World and Miss Jaycees. She placed second runner-up in the Carival Pageant but failed to secure a place in the Miss Caribbean Culture pageant held in Nevis. She did cop the award for best evening wear in that competition. Now with another sash under her belt, Baptiste told Dominica News Online that all her efforts were worth it.

Baptiste took the opportunity to thank all those who helped her during her reign.

  1. I Rep. QUEEN MARCIA!!!!!!!!!!
    December 9, 2010

I attended the event and had front seat, i particularly came to support Marcia and watched her every move but also applaud all contestants. I can talk about various contestants and what they were wearing, what they did and did not do or say, but that is just plain out CHILDISH!

1)What colour was her underwear if it was so visible to the audience??? I did not see no such thing and I was in-front right behind the judges! If you want to say she has better legs than yours then say that!
    2) Since you seem to know so much you should know she was MODELING the designer pieces! Go watch America’s Next Top Model you’d probably learn a thing or two … maybe you would criticize them as well, who knows. MODELING you don’t have a SMILE plastered on your face! Your face has to be SERIOUS!
    3) her dace she could have stand on her head and said it was Dominica dance THE CROWD
WONT KNOW!!!! She did her thing and she represented that’s the point she did bring across!
You look like you took a flight to mind her business just to slander her name! You as a “Dominican” who traveled to .. so you say “support” should do that! Do you actually know the meaning of “SUPPORT”?? ‘Cause you sure as hell not doing it! She represented Dominica despite all what you Dominicans have not done and say! Really, are you jealous of her??? Oh wait you wont admit that!

It’s a very shame to see how many of you Dominicans portray yourselves so negatively! You all make me ashamed to say that my roots are from there! On a public sight you all act like you have no kind of human training! It’s your own people, in this case person representing internationally be supportive and stop the negative attitude! You are the ones putting youngsters down! How can they do anything or achieve anything with attitudes like that??!! All you do is bring down! Act like a grown up you suppose to be and stop your childish, stupid, backward attitude that will get Dominica/Dominicans NOWHERE!

Marcia Congrats once again!! Hold your head up high no matter what you read here or people tell you. Continue to represent Dominica in a positive light and continue to be the person you are! You did wonderful! love ya!!

There you go well said and it is great that Dominicans are all over the world and know those things and even more support our girls at such shows, so I always thought that was a bit fishy when that person made that comment, as that is not the person I went to school with, know well enough even if I now live abroad, so I am not surprise that this was just another attempt to tarnish Marcia’s reputation.

Why some may ask………………..?! I know why and will tell you why………as a writer before me said and I will now echo again it is the crab in the barrel syndrom, jealousy, and the “slave mentality”, as master always liked it when we fought against each other or brought each other down.

Wake up Dominicans and stop pretending to be evolved while you are still in the mindset of back in the 1920s era and beyond which is so shame and such a limited existence if you ask me.

Marcia you did an excellent job my dear despite all the negative rumours, jealouse inuendos, “trials and tribulations’ you experienced and still continue to experience even as your superb reign comes to a sad end, and you remain as ever, from the start so dignified, so patriotic about your island and most of all an exemplary example of what a concious Dominican can achieve.

You should start going around the primary, secondary and colleges on the island to give motivational speeches in self esteem, confidence, civic mindedness and giving back to one’s community and most of all the nack of not engaging in idle gossip but using every waking second of every day alive to achieve their goals and make a positive difference in their communities, the ‘Nature Isle’ and the world at large.

Do enjoy the ‘end of reign’ celebrations that are so deservedly planned for you and enjoy the ride, savour the genuine appreciations that you receive along the way. EXCELLENT JOB MY DEAR!!!!!

If I win the lottery I will personally sponsor you to take part in the Miss Universe, Miss World & MIss Earth pageants 2011 all in that order, as you have proved that when you are performing your island Dominica is always at the top of your head and you exude this so brilliantly well! :-D

Proud D/A living in Sxm can you tell me whether there is some where we can buy the DVD of the show, as I would enjoy watching it with my Caribbean friends? Do let me know my dear. God bless… X

A fitting homecoming for one who deserves it. It is wonderful to appreciate others for what they have done and achieved, knowing that they tried their best and put forth their all. Consider how happy and important you will make them feel. They, in turn, will conclude how wonderful it is to be loved and “What a wonderful world of Dominicans”.
This is Marcia, the second-runner up. I visualize that she will never forget this homecoming celebration. It will be a lasting impression.
I would love to be present. Residing far away it is not possible but rest assured that I will be with you in spirit. I will read about it on DON of course. :)
On your way to the airport and back please drive safely.
God be with all of you.

Congratulations, Marcia1 You are royal. Yes, she’s royal.
The blogger who questioned the need for the motorcade should be aware that Miss Dominica 2010 had a very successful reign. The motorcade is not only in honour of her most recent 2nd runner up achievement, but in recognition of a job well done thruoghout her entire reign.

OBSERVATION: This is a rare article in which the critics did not blame the PM for the outcome. Every negative story related to DA is the PM’s fault with sarcastic comments about the next level. Positive stories where he personally contributed as a sponsor, no mention is made. This reminds me of Prez Obama and the Republicans.

    • Sout Man
      December 8, 2010

Yes, I’m reading after the fact: “thruoghout” should be throughout.

    • ACTS OF FAITH
      December 11, 2010

How true, and if the person who is questioning the significance of the motorcade should realise that it is not just to highlight one of the endeavours that she persued but to celebrate all the others she participated in throughout as you rightly said her ‘ENTIRE REIGN’ as Miss Dominica 2010, and also an opportunity to give buckets of thanks and appreciated to all the people who stepped up to the hot plate when the going got tough and supported/assisted her in her journey that was filled with so many hurdles, barriers and obstacles it really isn’t funny when you sit and think about this.

The good morale of the story is that Marcia was able to come out at the other end of it all, a stronger, more determined, focused, enlightened, humble, appreciative, big believer in giving back to her community and island, non-judgemental, tenacious, graceful, open-mined, not one to take everything on face value, receptive to speaking to others about her experiences and pass on tips on how they can rise above it with their dignity always remaining in tact, and an ability to totally shut out any negative commests, suggestions and malicious rumours by not dignifying them.

Marcia’s always been a shinning example of what determination and the belief in what you believe to follows those aspirations, staying focused on that journey and keeping your eyes on the prize and ultimately get up and grab the sky with both hands, despite what naysayers, haters, jealousy mongers, negative, destructive and malicious individuals persist on placing in your way. GOOD FOR YOU MARCIA and you have really inspired me, an adult several times your age to go back to university and gain my Masters, which I begin in February 2010. Thanks so much for this and all th best with your educational and endeavours as well, when you begin your degree after your reign ends and you’ll do exceedingly well my dear.

We’ll Miss you and it is a shame your reign is almost up but your achievements and cultral enrichment will always be one to remember in our island’s history for year to come. Be happy Marcia and continue on to the next phase in your life of excellence.

    December 8, 2010

    Congrats again to Marcia!!!!

But why the motorcade? Can she not be thanked and appreciated in a less dramatic way? A motorcade all the way from Marigot to Roseau. That just sounds a disaster in the making…why not have a celebration in Roseau…. showing thanks etc…why the big display?

I guess i would have understood if it was a Miss Wolrd or Miss Universe.

And for the reocrd, i am not undermining her 2nd place finish. I am just trying to understand the need for a motorcoade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Be reminded
      December 8, 2010

If you would recall she announced that motorcade long before the show. Please revisit the article “Queen Marcia seeks another regional title; lack of funds may hinder her attendance”. Guess some people just love drama.

      • Just giving my two cents
        December 8, 2010

Interesting that you cannot answer the question but you can make a useless comment. Where is the drama in that question?

Frankly, my dear it is a legit question.

I am saying congrats, job well done! But in the end, my question still stands as to what is the reason, use for a motorcade from Marigot to Roseau?

        • Be reminded
          December 8, 2010

You obviously misinterpreted my response. Take the time to read again and you may have a different view. Don’t be so quick to write: I think your question is legit and I am asking the same question as you. Certainly did not think there was any drama in your question.

You just like row row…………saddo Dominiche’! Why just Roseau? Is Roseau on it’s own Dominica or what?!

Remove those ‘rose petal’ glasses you seem to be wearing and wake up and smell the coffee.

A motorcade is most suitable for this excercise of bringing the curtains down to her reign and giving thanks despite all her TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS and the rubbish people like you kept throwing her way.

On of the reasons I would never encourage any young relative or friends on the island to enter into this Miss Dominica Pageant and I hope the new entrants know what they are getting themselves into, as everyone isn’t as strong, focused and determined as Marcia is.

      EXCELLENT JOB MARICA!!!!!

Marcia, I just a have a few words for you, as you will need strength and courage to continue in your existence of hope, after this year. So I say:

May the Good Lord bless and keep you in your walks from day to day. May you wake with sunlight shinning; and a blue bird in every tree; may there be a silver linning, back in every cloud you see. May the Good Lord bless and keep you, as you remain with Life, which is His nature of Love in you.

YAYYY!!!!! Go Marcia.. Every year when a young lady does well we say congratulations. Over the years the other queens such as Marah Walter, Leandra Lander, Nakita Bruno, Kamala JnoBaptiste, Francilla Agar, and the other queens (names to numerous to mention) who’ve proved Dominica right and take a couple crowns as their own, we continue to uplift them….. BUT YOU MARCIA, YOU HAVE SHOWN what true queen qualities and abilities are. You kept your platform, you worked with the society, you raised funds and entertained for the betterment and a brighter future of those you could have assisted. THAT WAS A JOB!! good work my dear…. You allowed negativity to pass by like the wind without any affect whatsoever, to your personality and appearance. You MAINTAINED YOUR WILL AND YOU ENCOURAGED and PERSEVERED…Then you picked yourself up, dust yourself off, sweep the dust at your feet, cleaned a path for yourself and those to come. You went as far as you could go being the carnival queen, regardless of the difficulties but determined to succeed, but not as far as you can TRULY reach even without being the current queen. Why? Because it would be a great pleasure to see you standing on the world class stage of Miss World and/or Miss Universe 2011. IF I HAD ONE MILLION Dollars even if it was the lottery i won, I would have given you the opportunity to present and represent yourself as well as your country, because i can tell this is what you love and this makes you happy and all in all, that is what life’s about finding happiness in all that we do……. You are Simply but EXTREMELY MAGNIFICIENT and so, i say Hats off to you. Continue to do well and Be a true role model to society and those around you. Again, CONGRATULATIONS and a JOB MAGNIFICENTLY DONE!!! You deserve all and more and a TRUE TO THE HEART EXAMPLE OF A QUEEN. :-D :)

Wow those words of encouragement and congratulations are so inspiring and heartfelt and I am so encouraged to see such a brilliant piece really positive feedback for a change on this site and it is such that restore my faith in humanity.

Anyway, well said and I definately cannot top that! :-D

In the words of the Poet Maya Angelou I would like to dedicate one of her poems to Marcia.

Here goes……….Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.

Each of us brings to the world unique talents, gifts and abilities. Even if you don’t know what it is, or value what you do, someone, somewhere, will benefit from your presence.

No one can do what you do exactly the way you do it.

It is this uniqueness that makes you valuable to the world. We are each as unique and valuable as the other.

It was designed that way. A gift from god. Gifts are not given on the basis of race of gender.

As a matter of truth, gifts come in many shapes, sizes and colours.

When you do what you do, exactly the way you do it, you are sharing god’s gifts, bestowed for the good of the world.

I have something valuable to give the world. By: Maya Angelou

What the writer above said regarding still wanting to see participate on the world stage in either the Miss World, Miss Universe or Miss Earth Pageants 2011, as you will be such a credit to the island and yourself.

I would happily pay for your participation and expenses to participate in one of those upscale pageants if I was in a position to do so, as I just know you would give a brilliant account of yourself.

Hope this isn’t good bye :( as you have been an excellent ambassador to your island and have displayed so much grace, tenacity and determination by over coming so many hurdles placed in your way right from the start and up until now, and through it all you came up with that radiant smile and friendly persona that has been such a symbol of your achievements to date and I have no doubt will guide you through the rest of your endeavours as you contiue to “live your best life” and inspire others.

Continue to remain grounded yet ambitous and hopefully the young ones watch will witness your testament that good things don’t come easy and once you keep your eyes on the prize and stay focus all the way, you can and will achieve and succeed whatever you aspire.

Best wishes to you always and thank you so much for representing DA and making so many of us from the “Nature Isle” both on/off the island so very proud.

PS: Some of my friends bought the DVD when you won the Miss Dominica Pageant 2010.

Can you tell us whether we can buy DVD’s of the Miss Jaycees in Antigua and the Miss Caraibes Hibiscus Pageant that you just came from, as we hear they were really good shows as well, and would like to enhance our collection?

That she so did and I don’t think that Dominicans on the island realise the magnitude of her popularity and how much she is held in high affection by so many Dominicans all over the globe, who have followed her problems from the very start to finish and up till the present time, which is just an inspiration and a great example to young Dominicans and all others as well.

I was there and her dress did not favor her at all. her speech on diabetis is what place her as well as the way she carried heself during the almost two weeks. Yiu can see she had manner and is a very respectful person but she could have done way better. She lifted her dress so high that people in the audience could see her underwear. Now I would like to know why her face was so push up when she was modeling in that beautiful designer dress? I went to the show just to support her as I am from Portsmouth but even on dancing the jing ping she did not impress the crowd

Thank you for the information. I hope that the rest of us can accept it as observations, not critics. The audience may not be used the music of jing ping; but also, I know that a person who dance to jing ping music has to be a very good dancer. Their physical movement has to definetly command the music as they dance, to impress the audience. Of course, I do not know how well Marcia can dance.

However she gained a spot in the winning line, we do not ask for more, remembering that she gave us a lot, by putting us on the map, throughout the year. I am looking forward to pictures of the motorcade. Thanks to you, our Marcia.

Thank you. What I am trying to pass as info here is that her imput on Diabetis really made her jump above all the other who spoke of themself. Being brought up from a happy and well mannered family she was not as reckless as they other girls and I must say congrats for that as they are being also judged on all their moves during that 2 weeks. But again for the futur queens follow her foot steps by focusing on something and not only on yourselves. Be active in your community and patronise. Miss Venezuela was 1st runner up because she spoke of AIDS and we were in aids awareness week. I can give these details as I was a judge; ( There were a few of us representing different countries)
