‘Mr. Dominica’ to debut during Carnival

A group of young people with the name “YoungStars,” have come together to add value to this year’s Carnival offering.

The group will stage a “Mr. Dominica” competition geared towards young men between the ages of 18 and 30 on Friday, February 10th, 2012 and is calling on all young men who feel they have what it takes to participate in a Mr. Dominica competition to come forward.

The event is the brainchild of Marketing & Communications Specialist, Marie-Antoinette Mora, who brought the group of young people together to mentor them.

“When we looked around, all we saw were shows engaging the female gender. There was nothing aimed at the male populace, so this is a “first of a kind” that we know will become an annual event.  The audience can expect quality, creativity, excitement and entertainment never before seen in Dominica.  We are extremely pleased that the “Mr. Dominica” competition has been endorsed by the Dominica Festival Committee and that it’s on the 2012 Carnival calendar,” said Ms. Mora.

Kimberly Benjamin, a member of the group said, “Dr. Alwin Bully, Chairman of the Dominica Festivals Committee, made a call some time ago for young people to become involved in Carnival activities and we have answered that call.  We are very excited about this event and hope that everyone is as excited as we are.”

Annasha Laronde, another member of the group stated that, “The ‘Mr. Dominica’ Show will be a chic display of natural, masculine charm and we are inviting all young men between the ages of 18 and 30 who are role models to register.”

The registration deadline is December 24, 2011 and forms can be obtained from members via email at [email protected].  Further information can also be obtained from Kimberly or Annasha at 276-8453 or 614-1333, respectively.

“Mr. Dominica” contestants will compete in Talent, Best in Magnificent Wear, a Water Works segment, which will showcase beach wear, Formal Wear and Question & Answer segments.

Ms. Mora is urging all businesses to support these enterprising, young persons as they seek sponsorship for this event.  “They are eager and energetic and, moreover, they are determined to make a difference; to make a positive contribution to Dominica,” she stated.

lets “move forward” by having men act like women on a stage. being self indulged and allow them to make fools of themselves…all in the name of making carnival more exciting.. you know what would move dominica forward and make it more exciting during carnival? bringing back souce and punch on carnival sunday and peebles park on the saturday before that.. instead of recruiting a bunch of lame douche bags to prance about on a stage. lemme guess… u women are waiting for the swimware section of the show…ironically some of u would still condemn a strip club. smfh..

I agree… so why is it okay for a woman to go up and get scholarship!!!! And young men dont get a chance? Give them a chance tooo!!!!! Dominicans always have to think that people are gay just because they want to participate in such.

    December 21, 2011

OK WTF is going on here??

I read about this on another site and I came to the conclusion that this was a bodybuilding competition. Due in no small part to the pic of bodybuilder included in the article.

But now I’m reading this and I just realize that this is actually a MALE version of the Miss Dominica show. UN BELEIVABLE!!

MOTS, you have a point there. I SMELL A RAT..there’s something/someone gay behind that.

We suspect that girl and her pals may be used as a front because carnival is always a MAN/WOMAN TOGETHER thing.

Why are people assuming that the show’s purpose is to promote the ”gay lifestyle”. I find Dominicans can really be petty and stupid. The show has not yet been held but there are people who are already labeling it as ”gay”. I really wonder why people who claim to be heterosexual are so obsessed about gays.

One more step to promote the gay life style. Dominicans beware, our young people are becoming more and more materialistic and shows like these are good avenues for sick older men to snare younger men into their gay trap.
