Organisers of the 7th Annual Rabbit Festival have promised a most impressive event this year.
The event which is organized by the Cochrane Rabbit Festival Committee (CRFC), will introduce new features and segments for patrons’ enjoyment, according to officials.
A Kids Corner and Gospel Festival, along with new rabbit dishes are expected be introduced, among others.
During a ceremony to launch the event at Digicel’s Roseau office today, President of the Committee Nelson Simon promised that the event will be “something real big.”
Simon admitted there were challenges during preparation of the event. He stated that the committee is working closely with the police department to tackle a traffic congestion issue which had came about last year during the feast. He guaranteed an increased police presence.
Simon hinted to the issue of poor roads as a possible hindrance to the upcoming show. He expressed optimism however, that the parliamentary representative and government will take care of this issue before the day of the event as promised.
Jeffers Parillon, Public Relations Officer of the committee revealed that for the first time the festival is being solely organised by the CRFC as opposed to other years when there had been government sponsorship.
According to him, the committee will be using profits from the previous festival to host this year’s show. He said however, that profits which stand at $20,000 is inadequate to successfully execute the $80,000 show.
Parillon expressed gratitude to sponsors who have already placed support behind the program and called on other private sector entities to follow suit in order to make the event successful.
Digicel, Courts Dominica, Kubuli , Sprinfield Trading and Belfast Estate are sponsors so far.
The event is scheduled for August 1.
Well the road was repaired, but only just in time, and only in areas where increased traffic is expected. The rest of the time the roads are challenging and the village not on the Parliamentary Reps radar.
He should try driving to Middleham from this side. Sad to think they collect tickets to a beautiful site and the road is almost impassable because it is not the “tourist friendly side”. More people approaching Middleham from this side might actually mean people stopping in the village and buying snacks etc. on the way up or down.
Last year they were warned to create a one way system from Springfield into the village, they refused to listen, an we know what happened….. hopefully they learned this year. Jeffers, Mr. Mayor. Have a good day.
We’ll be there, we live here.
Missed it last year but I won’t this year! I can’t wait to eat some rabbit!
