No Creole in the Park this year

A man jamming at a past Creole in the Park

Roseau, Dominica  – The producer of the biggest daytime event during Dominica’s independence celebrations, Flow, has made a tough but necessary decision to defer the staging of the company’s flagship Creole in the Park event this year.

While the four-day event is a much-anticipated one, especially this being a milestone year marking Dominica’s 40th anniversary of Independence, the company believes that its priority must be to remain focused on restoring service to all customers across the island.

One year post the massive destruction of hurricane Maria, the telecommunications company which experienced severe damage to both its mobile and fixed network infrastructure, has been battling with delays in restoration of service to customers in certain areas and is making this its number one priority.

“We have had quite a few set-backs in completing our new state of the art network build-out, service restoration, and launching of new products and services including Fibre to the Home (FTTH), and IPTV following hurricane Maria,” stated Flow’s General Manager Jeffrey Baptiste.

“It was a difficult decision to make as we are quite aware of the importance of Flow’s Creole in the Park event to Dominica, but we also have an unwavering commitment to our customers and must make them a priority at this time” added the Flow GM.

He concluded by stating that the company’s goal is to fulfill commitments to customers to provide superfast broadband connections and to launch a superior television product in the market.

The company apologizes to all affected by this decision and is committed to playing its part in the rebuilding process post-hurricane Maria.

This is a company decision. “While the four-day event is a much-anticipated one, especially this being a milestone year marking Dominica’s 40th anniversary of Independence, the company believes that its priority must be to remain focused on restoring service to all customers across the island.”

It is up to the customers to show the company what is important to them at this time. Organize and fight back. The only fight they do and will understand is any fight which affects their money, so take your business and your money to another provider instead., see how fast they change their focus.

After receiving that major beating from Maria, then you lost your top customer ROSS thanks to the government of Dominica and to add insult to injury then your other top customer the government of Dominica, walked out on you to move to your competitor . I think your days in Dominica are numbered by you should save every dollar you can. Let Digi continue that ….

    • September 23, 2018

Wasn’t the service to provide telecom service to government put out to tender? Digicel won or Flow lost out to Digicel. I guess the contract should have been given to Flow without tender to allow people like you to talk about no bid contract.

FLOW is now the consumer-facing brand for CWC’s operations in the Caribbean in Barbados, Jamaica, The Cayman Islands, St. Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, Montserrat, Dominica, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Grenada, Anguilla, Curaçao, the Turks and Caicos Islands and the British Virgin Islands.

Following FLOW’s parent company, Cable & Wireless Communications’ acquisition by Liberty Global, FLOW (and its sister companies, BTC (Bahamas), +Movil in Panama and Cable and Wireless Seychelles) joined the brands VTR and Liberty Cablevision in Puerto Rico forming LiLAC, Liberty Global’s Latin American and Caribbean Group. FLOW also joined the ranks of European cable and internet leviathans such as Virgin Media UK and Ireland, UPC Cablecom and Ziggo, all also owned by Liberty Global.
A COMPANY OF THIS MAGNITUDE CANNOT SPONSOR CTIP FOR WHAT REASON? YOU ALL BETTER WAKE UP TO THE REAL REASONS.

First DCP, then Kubuli, Then ROSS, now CITP all under Skerrit watch. Who or which next? Dominicans open all you eyes. Was CITP cancelled because Government move their telecommunications serrvices to DIGICEL? If this is the reason, was it a culturally sound decision to snob one of the companies that have been carrying our cultural development? The reason given by Baptiste, doesn’t really make sense. Firstly, because he knew that before FLOW announced after Maria that they were preparing the CITP so why the sudden change. Secondly, except if they are broke how would CITP interfere with their work towards restoring the services. Maria was one year ago. Yes Jah, Dominica under some very stormy waters!!!

I do not care it they remove this comment but u are just an ignorant fool… All u only thinking about yourselves…. Is skerrit fault Maria mash up Kubuli factor. All u want to blame skerrit for everything. Rain fall is skerrit, sun too hot is skerrit. Dominicans need to take responsibility for their own actions. Flow is a private company… skerrit can not make them give Dominica fete. All the fete we fete’ing is probably why God pass his wrath on us. We need to rethink what is important in our lives

I guess all that money Ross was paying FLOW and other companies, they starting to feel it. However the PM said it’s not the end of the world, and Ian said we have moved on…. ayeeee Dominique

Well no bird flies on one wing.

The GOVT took away one of FLOW wings and you expect FLOW to fly with CITP.

    Absolutely Not: Thanks Mr. Baptiste!!!!!

Focus on your customers, at the end of the day this is how your corporation is measuring your performance.

I think I have the perfect solution for change in Dominica!

We should appoint the Tanzanian President as the PM. He would ban Creole Fess while infrastructure in Dominica is still struggling for structural equilibrium. He would reduce the number of ministers and diplomats to save the country some money. Then and only then would Dominicans really become angry that a sewo is taken away, and boom, demand change. Why is this a good solution, because fete is the only thing all Dominicans come together for, and the shrewd Skerro knows that. Is it surprising the court appearance of the UWP members came right before the Creole Festival, when people are in a festive mood?

    • Inside Source
      September 21, 2018

I could not agree with you more especially on the part about fete. However what a lot of Dominicans are ignorant to is the impact that ross left when they left.. RUSM contributed to a large percentage of Flows income as well as many other companies who are now laying off staff. Portsmouth is not the only place that will be impacted. The bomb exploded in Picard but the shock waves will be felt island wide. And please stop blaming Maria & Erica for exposing of vulnerabilities.

Mr. Baptiste being very diplomatic but do you honestly expect Cable &Wireless, who own Flow, to finance CITP when government have given all their business to Digicel? That would not be smart business, no profit in that, only cost.

I don’t know the facts, but it’s very likely one of the top 3 reasons. Additionally, this would be the most approperate business decision following such a massive business blow.

Remember too, CITP was originally a 5 day event and the government at the time ensured it was reduced to 4 days due to pressure from Digicel when they Dagan sponsoring WCMF.

Flow had been providing internet service to government institutions and schools and they never paid attention to upgrades and maintenance of the service. Schools go days and months without internet after making several calls to flow and they never gave priority because they had the contract. Now that the government moved you people want to make it an issue. Flow wants everything to be monopolized! And they also thought that all companies would stay with them. Wake up and smell the coffee flow. Maybe this experience will help you to become humble and give back to your customers. You choose not to do CITP this year; OKAY. But just remember the Golden rule of Science: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction… Who says Flow doesn’t have money? Give me a break! And you people really believe that they are not doing this because they want to provide their customers with service? Flow wants to always have power and we need to show them that the customers are in charge!

Im not surprised that we are losing another item under the DLP. BECAUSE this seems to be the trend under their regime , if we don’t put these guys out of office, soon we will lose the soil under our feet
Skerrit must go for Dominica to develop like we are seeing in other islands.
These guys have been a barrier for advancement in Da.

Be considerate….you have to understand. is not no this is da for u. It cost lots and lots of money to both restore after this hurricane and to put on a wonderful show like they have been doing for years. I don’t live in DA and im coming down d Thursday just bcuz of creole in the park to get the last day of it. But I am happy they chose to put restoration of service for the customers first. I AM SURE it will have other events on that day for us to still enjoy ourselves.

      • No Creole in the Park
        September 21, 2018

You really believe FLOW? The just launched a new service which to me suggests they are back on track, even if not 100%. And if this is the reason then ask yourself why was CITP on the independence celebrations program in the first place. I guess someone woke up in sweat and shock realizing the customers come first.

I suspect having lost the government as a client to DIGICEL was a major factor in their decision

    September 21, 2018

    Mr. Baptiste,

I understand where you are coming from re wanting to restore service to all customers but we have been without that service for a year now. Data takes all our money,m the most FLOW can do is give back in the form of Creole in the Park. With reunion 2018 which is not being pushed by the Government, now no creole in the park? I think reunion should have been put off to 2019 together with creole in the park. If there is reunion this year then there should be creole in the park Mr. Baptiste. What do you think? Both of our legs are not broken, we cannot even hop on 1 foot.

I don’t mind really. It also gives the park a well deserved rest and time to recover. I hope in time we can restore it as it used to be and not a short cut for traffic and car park. That too must be part of the resilience program if we want to be serious.
