The Paix Bouche and Dos Dane Village Council have been holding its own activities to highlight Local Government Month in May.
Angelica Pierre-Louis says the activities began on May 06, 2010 with a public meeting in the village.
According to her, at that meeting, the council highlighted its achievements and challenges encountered in the implementation of its plans, from the needs assessment undertaken at the last Local Government Month in 2009.
“Among the highlights were the concrete foot path for improved access of the elderly and physically challenged and refurbishing of the Resource Center funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, completion of the Moore Pack Back Street under the BNTF [Basic Needs Trust Fund] Project, work on the Providence Road assisted by the Government of Dominica, computer and academic and leadership classes under the council ongoing program and through the Adult Education Program. The villagers were given the opportunity to respond to the council report. They commended the Council and offered suggestions/recommendations for the future,” she explained.
She said activities continued on May 9- Mother’s Day with a grand fun and sporting activity.
“The event officially began with a duck walk race by the chairman and members of the council. Prizes were presented to all mothers who won and tokens of appreciation to all mothers present. Special delivery of surprise gift packages were handed to mothers from their children while at the center. Mother of the Year recognition went to clerk of the council Mrs. Magdalene Brumant.
The day’s event climaxed with the auditioning of the 2nd Five Star Song Contest. Frederick Paul, Sandy Edwards, Annette Walter, Mohan Thomas, Christel Bannis, Wayne Thomas, Christie Laudat, Peaches Joseph and Charlesy Hector qualified from among 12 contestants for the second round of elimination to be held on May 23.
The finals of the Five Star Song contest is carded for June 6, 2010.
