PM recognizes contributions to carnival

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has applauded Dominicans who made their contribution to the 2011 carnival celebration.

He has congratulated the winners of the various shows that formed part of the festivity including the Miss Dominica Pagaent and Calypso competition. The participation of visitors too in Dominica’s carnival is worthy of recognition, according to Skerrit.

“From all reports the carnival went very well; all the events were very successful. Very importantly too, is that the carnival celebrations went about rather peacefully. From the reports of the police there were minor incidences having taken place in the carnival celebration.” Skerrit said.

He has also recognized the efforts of carnival organisers and promoters saying they must be highlighted “for their tremendous work”.

Skerrit, ok about the carnival, you came out so quickly, however, for 14 yr old Shanice Jemmot, you are yet to come out and say anything. To my mind this says a lot.

Yes, you are right. But with the current uproar of the complete incompetence and Keystone Cops antics of the DA police force police trying to locate this child, there will be some political spinning soon from the DLP.

      Watch this space.

She needs to be found, but the sad thing is, nothing has been put into place about finding this young girl. The first 48 hours are crucial in a potential crime. Why has there been no pictures placed at the seaport etc.

I can’t believe how incompetent the police force have been in this entire situation

Isn’t tomorrow March 10th the date PM Skerrit will appear in court for his alleged violation of the Dominica constitution – A charge brought by the UWP over his dual citizenship status as a sworn member of paliarment?

Well I did not hear him or anyone say anything about tomorrow.

    Dear Mr Skerrit,

I noticed lately you have been outside the media’s reach and this was even more evident in the fact that you were absent from the various calypso tents and other organised shows which were attended by your colleagues given that you’re an ardent supporter of Culture.

Is this damage control? I hope not. What we need is a damn apology for lying to us so boldly and a renewed committment to fight crime and bring justice.

We don’t care about the case and ure citizenship issues. You’re not the first and won’t be the last. It’s just that your silence is defeaning in dealing with issues that affect labourers children – esp Tiyani. Be not afraid sir.

    Thank you

Given all what was said by the Hon. Prime Minister, i am one who thinks that there needs to be something new introduced to our carnival that would help the Calypso association and the festival commission, and here is my thought what if the government would assist the calypso association in increasing the price for the calypso monach up to $200,000.00 for the king, increases to a reasonable some to the 1st and second runner up, the government of trinidad involvement in dolling out $2million for socca monarch and calypso monarch is a clear example the result was $4 billion in revenu for the 2011 carnival, that i think would encourage a tighter/more competitive competition, more patrons will attend the shows and the DCA will be justified for an increase at the gates. The same should apply to the Queen show. The quality of our shows will be much better if consideration will be given to the afore mentioned ideas. The festival commission needs to promote and market our carnival just like we do for the creole festival, we are seeing the response for the festival, so wadix should be doing the same for carnival. Our travel agencies should be encouraged to organise reasonable fares now that we have night landing, or dominicans in the diasopora could organise in that approach, my thoughts express is just an attempt for a debate in the improvement of our carnival

you must be smoking rocks with your statement. TT has how many people compared to DA. We cannot make carnival like TT as we don’t have the people. It would be nice but not likely. If you make carnival all about making money then you begin to loss the meaning of it.

sir, i am not asking to make carnival like TT, my thought is movining DA carnival to the next level where we can encourage our overseas dominicans and our locals to be encouraged to attend these shows, if the prizes are greater the competion willl be tighter because the writers will do a better job with the pen, the performers will do a better job on the stage and the queens will do a lot better to earn that prize, we can find so much for election campaign why not find a lesser amount to encourgae our youths, trust that if i was in the administration i will meet the stake holders to make that possible, Mr Bully experience with UNESCO could assist us in tapping some funds towards our cultural activity, its all in the best interrst of DA
