The Possie Pan Cultural Group of Portsmouth is this year’s recipient of the E.O.LeBlanc Trophy. The Group will be presented with the trophy at Cultural Gala slated for November 3rd at the Botanical Gardens. The. E.O.LeBlanc Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding cultural during the past year. The Possie Pan Cultural Group includes a steel band orchestra, a traditional dance group and a jing ping ensemble.
Ahmed Jno Baptiste of Capuchin will receive the Young Artist Award in recognition of his consistent involvement in the traditional arts at high standard. Sonia Lloyd of Kings Hill will receive the Cultural Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to the preservation and promotion of Dominica’s Folk Music and Language. Winners of various literary competitions will also be announced.
The Cultural Gala normally climaxes the cultural activities of Independence Celebrations and features performances by the winners of the various cultural competitions held during the past several weeks.
The Gala will conclude with a performance by WCK, pioneers of Bouyon music. The Cultural Gala is organized by the Division of Culture and the National Cultural Council.
