Preparations intensify for this year’s Creole in the Park

The present scene at the Botanical Gardens on Valley road is one which gives an individual the sense that something big is about to happen.

Large tents, vending stalls, ladders, bamboo and rods of iron, all lined up on its grounds, men hammering away, leaving passerby’s with a nostalgic feeling as they have no choice but to reminisce on the good times they have had at that venue for the last seven years at this time of year.

From October 25-28, LIME will present its 8th annual Creole in the Park at the gardens and with no exception, it is promised to be a big event.

“I not missing this one nuh,” one young lady said as she passed by.  Her female companion responded, “You know I in dat!”

Among one of the more anticipated acts to grace the stage at the four-day event will be Jamaican Queen Ifrica, a favourite of many Dominicans.

Other acclaimed performers like Peter Ram from Barbados and Kompa Kila from Guadeloupe will grace the stages.

The Creole in the Park entertainment line-up will also include Triple Kay, Bouyon pioneers WCK, Derek ‘Rah’ Peters and his Riddim & Heat band together with the Fanatik band and the Original Serenade band.

Caribbean Vibes, Sub Urban and Natural Vibes, will handle the reggae music lovers, while Freddie & Friends, Shades of Green, and Marie Claire Giraud “will satisfy the tastes of those who prefer the jazzy, lighter side of musical entertainment”.

The Kings of Cadance Midnight Groovers and the Swinging Stars – the longest serving band in Dominica – will return.

LIME will also feature 10 calypsonians, including reigning monarch Karessah, former kings Dice, Hunter, Observer and Daddy Chess. Making their debut at the event will be Sye, Tasha P, Soul Puss and Prosper.

“There are also three young and upcoming bands who are elated to be given the opportunity to perform at this year’s LIME Creole in the Park for the first time,” LIME said in a previous press conference.

These bands are Digital Vibez, Xtreme Band and Machine Creole.

Patrons are expected to make a minimal contribution at the gate.

Good to know all is going well in the preparations. But shame on the people who were setting up their booths earlier this week and did not assist the secondary school boy who was being beaten up and mugged right in front of them while he was screaming for help. I mean adults just standing there watching two other boys beating another school boy and robbing him and not saying or doing anything.

    Shame!
