The effects of rain, which has been lashing the island over the past couple days, are responsible for the postponement of the opening of Showdown Mas camp which was scheduled for Friday evening, according to organizers.
The event is being moved to the Public Service Union, (PSU), on Valley Road and according to Showdown Mas Camp President, Pat Aaron, the area is being transformed “into a mini stadium” dubbed Showdown Mas Camp Calypso City. “We are actually covering the PSU grounds, it will make it look like a giant green house … people will be in there, nobody gets wet and you can see the sky, you can see the moon…” he said.
However, he said, rain has slowed the process of building the ‘mini stadium.’ “The inclement weather has really slowed down the process, so we made a decision this morning to postpone the show until Sunday afternoon for the sake of our supporters and patrons,” he noted.
Aaron vowed that the area would be covered by tonight (Friday) but thinks that it would be cutting it too close to go on with the show. “So we didn’t think it would be close enough and done comfortable enough to accommodate the show this afternoon,” he pointed out.
He is promising what he described as “improved and creative ambiance” for the staging of the show this year and said the move to the PSU ground is a ‘big risk’ and a ‘bold move.’ “It is costing us a lot of money to get this done … it is a long term investment because we are expecting to be at the venue for the next coming years,” he said.
Aaron said the show is set to begin at 6:00 pm on Sunday and it has been made attractive by adding a family package. “Fans can bring their children,” he said. “You bring two children, you pay for one and the other one goes in free.”
He also put to rest questions about the continued participation of veteran calypsonian, Sye, in Mas Camp and told patrons that the should expect the “usual high standard” of a Showdown Mas Camp which will include some exciting new this year including Rachel Jno. Baptitse and Leona Peters of QTS fame.
Why do things to suit themselves not the public.
Why all of a sudden is a family thing I would not take my kids for sure. This is not an event for children period.
A greenhouse ? To grow patat man. And then is allyu dat wanNa tell Skerro how to run things. Stardom I going.
Dat Blackberry Roro have allu in a jam this year hmmmmmm allu should have think b4 i pass dere today and dat place still doh ready yet
mas camp at its best controversy as usual
It have nothing to do with rain. They were just not ready with the venue
They need to have the event in doors
The show will go on…Sunday is just the opening, they will have their usual Friday night tent..it is someting to look forward too….
Pat even with that you playing politics?
What inclement weather? That’s a bunch of crock! Thought the decision for the new venue was made a few weeks ago, which meant the organizers had sufficient time to set up. Hmm, something does not seem to be right there
Why should mass camp be a family affair? Especially since Monday morning is a school day? Any night for that matter would not make it appropriate for children.
Why would you want to bring your children to a calypso tent? And then we complain..since when tent is a famuly event…we taking it too far…
I hope it does not get too warm inside there..
Hope they are doing up to specific entertainment Standards for air circulation etc…
Wish them well.
What a mess.
Hi please get things together. I am coming to Dominica and I hope to have a good time but I don’t want to hear rain postponing events. Also why can’t American Eagle have more flights to DA during carnival season. See you all soon.
Y Don’t you ask American Eagle?
Mas Camp is a mess!
No tunell”vision” it,goes to adress the fact we need more proper facilities to host those kind of activities, I say check the chines to build us a convention hall and more to stage our national events; Rain, or shine, right now we`re not ready, and what a shame.and a great lost of money to all those associated with those events.
Don’t we have a stadium that is standing there most of the time doing nothing but eating money?
Listening to DSB live at work in New York. Missing DA carnival
stardom all the way!
Where Patat????
oh oh whats up guys keep it together hope its not seriouse can’t afford setbacks
That’s crazy, I well IN NY looking forward to listening tonight. why didn’t they just go back to the Harlem Plaza ???????
Anonymous, you have no name no identity so no comment !!
Oh bacanal…I am a bacanlist ….too much politics with pat aaron…bobby federick support who you want…not because you sppport skerro now they should tKe the venue away from you.
True that, oh that’s why he won last year with the song TEACHER, and Skerro was a teacher.A very good idear to win, hehehehehe !!
Now now all that I see going up at C S A grounds must be costing a lot. why not pay what you OWE and use Bobby,s place? sp much has been lost, DAs do not go out on Sunday nights,.
That’s really not the reason , The owner of mascamp don’t like to pay up . That’s what !!
If you only knew, Bobby is NOT a Skerro-tite. DO your research. By the way I don’t recall RAIN stopping Stardom the past two tents? Since when rain ever stop a jam in DA??
