Scene from Rum Punch and Prejudice

This weekend Theatre Lovers have one more chance to see the story of Raglan Riviere novel Rum Punch and Prejudice as it unfolds at the Arawak House of Culture.

Rum Punch and Prejudice, the latest production of the New Dimension Theatre is an exciting and fascinating story, adapted and directed for stage by the group’s artistic Director Steve Hyacinth.

Based on the numerous requests and by popular demand for a repeat performance, the group has decided to stage the play for one night only on Saturday16th June at the Arawak House of Culture for its many fans and friends who missed the opening performances in May.

Rum Punch and Prejudice is about a white Dominican who spends most of his life in England because as a child he was exposed to a forbidden relationship between his father and a black maid after the death of his mother.

He could not forgive his father – the white owner of a large estate and so spent most of his life in England. While in England, he receives an offer for him to return to Dominica to manage a large estate in place of his dying uncle. What follows is an absorbing, intriguing and gripping story which no one should miss.

The play features sixteen talented and experienced Dominicans actors and actresses including Donille Blackmoore, Jerry Coipel, Giselle Hyacinth, Monelle Alexis, Joseph Fado, J. Gremier, Norma Payne St. John, Harry Seally and John Liverpool.

Rum Punch and Prejudice will be on at the Arawak House of Culture on Saturday 16th June for one night only at 8:00 pm sharp.

Hi I went to the Arawak with the notion that the play had flaws so I went to the theatre as usual waiting to be disappointed by what I pay my big money for. But low and behold what I was told was no where in the play. The play was one of class and professionlism, the acting was excellent, the Director had done a great job is presenting this play.

I think we Dominicans think that if certain people eh do things if someone else does it it not good, we must stop that, give praise where praise is due. This individual relly mislead me I think it was jealousy or the person wanted to laugh and get no message or story line.

All scenes in the play was great and well executed by the cast and crew my girl for the night was the English daughter played by the little hyacinth daughter, she was exceptional, Donille as usual, Fadoul and the others were great. Great production.

I noticed after the show Alwyns went to commend the group, that was very nice.

Bodie the upstairs and downstairs building was creative and usual for Dominica, and the Make up was okay. Good work.

we must learn to commend our brothers and sisters and do not pull them down – if the play was good say it. I think the play is the the top five of the NDT best. Good work Steve

We have to give the Director of NDT the thumbs up. This man took Raglans Novel and created a movie he said a stage play but this piece of work was out of this world – the play went beyond two hours but your were not board. It was educational, entertaining and had a story line. Some of us accept mediocrity and call it play because it had jokes, laughter and no message.

Rumpunch and Prejudice was a heat. Great performance man. Anyman who can take a Novel and bring it to life like that is a genius and should be commended and supported. We should try to assist in the group being this play to other Islands and places in DA

    Great work.
I think this was a well put togther cast of Dominicans. This play is one that should be shown around the Island. Its part of our History. Prejudice is part of our culture and some people have not changed this culture- they still continue to live in that type of ignorance.

    Great play

What a Masterpiece the group must be commended for this great performance. This is the best I have seen – this was like a movie from beginning to end. Commendation to Steve and the cast great job. I love the make-up first for Dominica I believe. Why is Government not sending this group overseas to represent DA they would make better representation from what I have seen.
