The New Dimension Theatre takes the story of Raglan Riviere novel Rum Punch and Prejudice to the Arawak House of Culture this weekend.
The exciting and fascinating story- Rum Punch and Pejudice, adapted and directed for stage by the group’s artistic Director Steve Hyacinth is about a white Dominican who spends most of his life in England because as a child he was exposed to a forbidden relationship between his father and a black maid after the death of his mother.
He could not forgive his father – the white owner of a large estate and so spent most of his life in England. While in England, he receives an offer for him to return to Dominica to manage a large estate in place of his dying uncle.
What follows is an absorbing, intriguing and gripping story which no one should miss.
The play features sixteen talented and experienced Dominicans actors and actresses. Among them are Donille Blackmoore, Jerry Coipel, Giselle Hyacinth, Monelle Alexis, Joseph Fado, J. Gremier, Norma Payne St. John, Harry Seally and John Liverpool.
Rum Punch and Prejudice opens at the Arawak House of Culture on Friday 25th May and runs on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 at 8;00 PM sharp.
I conquer with “Understanding”. This was a masterpiece. The set was out of this world well designed. The acting was of a high standard. From what I saw on Saturday, The New Dimension Theatre is the best. Kepp up the good work guys.
Josef, Giselle, Monelle< Jerry and Donelle were my favourites, the English accent was out of this world- them people sounded real and the make up papa bodie hemmm……….Good work
I left the Arawak overwhelmed!!!!!
My God! what a performance by the New Dimension Theatre, what a prodcution. This must be shown around the Island. Everyone should see this for themselves. The acting was of ahigh standard, the play was well written, steve wrote this from a novel written by Raglan Riviere and incorporated everything I have read in the Book.
The actors spoke like English people never lost the accent, I saw no flaws this was one of the best plays I have seen in Dominica – Steve is good, he is the best.
Everyone should see that Play.
DNO all u always spelling somebody name wrong. fix the main character name. its Jozef Faddoul. u all are becoming pathetic. who was incharge of this story and who oversaw its editing and publishing. real shame to do this to the cast of such a wonderfull play
ADMIN: If you had read carefully, you will see this is a press release from the organizers. Do we have to call people to make sure their releases are accurate every time we get one? If the organizers cannot get their own people correct, who can?
I know, this things happen – so what! We all make mistakes. All who have no sin throw the first stone.
It is great to see Rag’s great work make it to the stage. Congrats Rags, Steve, and the crew/
Steve did the best thing to use another writer’s work. This can be considered his best production for long time. This novel must be read .Congratulations to the cast.
What do you mean?. Steve has written many plays. Maybe you have not been coming to his plays.
Commend the man he is the best. He plays are always education – great message when you leave the theatre
is this based on a true story?
No, it is fictional. But the Dominican setting is real and historical.
I hate hate hate when people’s names are spelled wrong in official releases. Major peeve!
