Scaled down Fete Isidore in San Sauveur

The recent heavy rainfall, which caused severe damage to roads leading to San Sauveur, has taken its toll on the celebration of the popular Feast of St. Isidore.

This, organizers say, has forced them to drastically scale down the event this year.

“This year we have decided to host the activities to mark the Fete Isidore on a smaller scale for several reasons,” one of the organizers of the event, Dione Durand, told DNO. “Chief among those is the problems with our roads.”

According to Durand, the road issue was given serious consideration during the planning phases for the feast because, “we were not sure how it would turn out, and whether we would be in a position to host many people this year; or whether people would even make the trip to celebrate with us.”

She said one of the feast’s highlights, the Miss Isidore pageant, has been scrapped. “There will be no Miss Isidore this year,” she said.

Events for the scaled-down version of the feast include a panel discussion, which took place on Wednesday.  There, villagers discussed the opportunities available in the fishing industry.  A fish night is slated for Saturday (May 18) and a mass on Pentecost Monday at the San Sauveur Roman Catholic Church, followed by a parade and a dance.

Music for the event will be provided by Millenium Sounds from Castle Bruce and entertainment will come from local DJs Kenny and Kenny from Petite Soufriere.

Durand is promising a bigger celebration next year. “Next year we hope to come back bigger and better,” she said.

In any case, for the last five or so years that I visited San Sauveur for that feast, all I got for my time was bar-b-cue smoke, loud blasting music in every corner and a whole set of rum drinkers behaving foolishly. Best all you scrap this up. Not me again! NEVER!

As far as I am concerned, we do not have any representation in Government. Just look at the appalling state of disrepair of the Reunion center in Castle Bruce! What a disgrace!

Keep your hands glued to your backsides still and wait for a government to repair YOUR Reunion Center for you! This Center was and is a community project. Or, have you forgotten?

      SMH!

I would sincerely like to thank the Govt of the C/wealth of D/ca for :
    1. Depriving a village from celebrating their feast in a manner they would have normally done.
    2. Depriving me of income that I would have gotten if the feast went ahead normally.
    3. The shameful manner that the Parl Rep for the area cannot address the situation. Its not the first time rain falling in the area. Yet up to now vehicles are still dodging rocks and tunnels.

Thank you very much Govt. :-x

Is it necessary to be rude? FYI Fete Isidore was celebrated in San Sauveur before Grand Bay. By all means go to Grandbay but don’t be disrespectful.
