Security and crime prevention assured for 14th WCMF

The Dominica Police Department will work closely with private security firms to maintain law and order and assure security of the upcoming World Creole Music Festival.

This is according the newly appointed Superintendent in charge of the central division and operations, David Andrew, who said the task of policing the event would be handled in three parts. These include venue security, traffic management and control and crime prevention.

“This major national event falls squarely under my portfolio and I am going to endeavor to ensure that things continue as it has been in the past and even taken to the next level,” Andrew said.

He said the police will perform its duties to maintain law and order in and around the WCMF Windsor Park venue to ensure peace, tranquility and safety of all.

“We will be partnering with other stakeholders, volunteer groups, private security and many others,” he said.

The superintendent said patrons should be prepared for some inconvenience in the area of venue security.  He said: “We will be doing searches of bags, we will be scanning and we will be putting things in place to minimize if not eliminate any disorderly conduct.”

Procedures for entry and exit and various tagging and identification will be announced to the public at a later stage. Tips for crime prevention will also be provided.

Also, traffic management as it relates to the free zone areas, regulations and main access roads to and from the venue and traffic signs and barricaded areas will be announced shortly.

“We will be dealing with limited parking and advise you about the car pooling process,” said Superintendent Ainsworth Irish. He anticipates this year’s WCMF to attract between 5,000 to 7,000 patrons to the city.

According to superintendent Andrew, the force “will be setting up patrols for the entire perimeter and further afield of that event”.

The plans are still in the developing stages and are to be completed within the coming days.

I hope all will go well and violence will be as minimal as possible.
I am also happy that Ag Commissioner Carrette, is not a part of this organization, for he wouldn’t know what to do or how to handle such matters. Maybe he would allow people to walk in with…………..

    Viva la WCMF

Lets hear it for oooooooooooooooooooooooo Tolerance for violence and disregard for the law of the land some of our people choose to be at their worst behaviour during such big events some is to impress who????? I have no idea! We need the right people in the police force to move things in line with the times that we are living in so far lets keep the people in power on notice that its no longer the police business its all our business we all in this together. Give the police force the tools and man power and then and only then we can take them to task if and when they fail to deliver. So far so good.

sometimes people just post comments just because they want to blow some steam… Nothing concrete, nothing to stimulate someone else’s mind just pure rubbish.. What does the whole security thingy have to do with cops getting paid? someone please explain to me…. The cops are there for security so there’s no reason for WCMF organisers to pay them, they are doing there jobs keeping everything peaceful. The only extra work they will be doing is more cops will be out, and they gotta be more alert and ontop there game. The festival brings in money and the whole island benefits from it not just one sector. Before we speak we need to say something that makes sense and is relavant. Everything in dominica is about money if ya’ll ain’t getting paid ya’ll don’t want to do the job… Can we just stop being so negative already…When we have labor day parade on the parkway, the cops do there JOBS.. Mayor bloomburg don’t pay them EXTRA because they are making sure everything goes smoothly. Just SMDH at you plebs…

WCMF is a private organization. Officers working on the nights should be paid by WCMF. Stop abusing the police officers paid up, WCMF.
