Seven young ladies from various primary schools on the island will vie for the title of Miss Carnival Princess 2015 on February 1.
The pageant, which is organized by the Rotaract Club of Roseau, will be held under the theme: ‘Empowering Young Minds and Building Self-confidence’ at the Harlem Plaza in Newtown.
President of the Club, Shanda Carbon, told Dominica News Online that preparations for the show are going “quite well”.
According to Carbon, the Princess Show Committee is working feverishly with the girls in order for the show to be a success.
“We are actively getting the girls to practice three days a week: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. They do their opening dance and we also train them in terms of their walk on stage…,” she explained.
However she said that travel is posing a problem for some of the contestants.
“We have students coming from a wide cross section of the island and you will not always find all of them present at practice,” Carbon explained. “We have one student from the Castle Bruce Primary School and another from the Roosevelt Douglas Primary school in Portsmouth, so it’s a bit challenging for all the girls to be there.”
Meanwhile Carbon is calling on corporate entities to support the contestant from the Goodwill Primary School as the Club is still searching for a sponsor her.
“One of the girls do not have a corporate sponsor, but the club is still looking for sponsorship for her and in the event she does not receive sponsorship it’s up to the club to take that on,” she noted.
Tickets for the show cost $5 for primary school students, $10 for secondary school students and $15 for adults.
She said there are limited VIP seats for $25.
The event is expected to begin at 3:00 pm.
Members of the public can log on to the Dominica Carnival Princess Facebook page and participate in a poll to vote for their favorite princess.
The winner will be announced on the night of the show.
The poll will run until January 31.
