Seventh contestant confirmed for national queen pageant

The search for a seventh contestant for the March 4, 2011 national queen pageant is over.

Shortly after hearing the news that one contestant had withdrawn from the pageant and a seventh contestant was being sought, the young lady reportedly contacted the relevant authorities to indicate her interest, a reliable source told Dominica News Online.

The source also disclosed that the young lady, who is from Morne Bruce, passed her interview with “flying colours” and is ready to take on the challenge.

An official announcement of her participation will be made soon, the source said.

The new entrant’s confirmation of her participation came just hours after an official contract-signing ceremony was held for the other six contestants Thursday morning at the Dominica Festival Committee’s Office.

During the brief event, Chairperson of the Carnival Queen Show Committee, Ramoulda Hyacinth, announced that contestant Eddelia Rolle withdrew due to “personal reasons”, a decision made formally to the DFC and queen show committee less than two days before the contract-signing event.

Hyacinth said the short notice for Rolle’s withdrawal did not allow “us sufficient time to seek a replacement. At this time, we will continue to explore the possibility of having a seventh contestant for the pageant and we will advise you as soon as we have concrete word”.

Another contestant, Marliyne Richards, has been replaced by Earlene Labassiere. The DFC did not give a reason for Richards’ dropout.

Hyacinth said preparations are “well underway and going well and we can assure you a show of quality and substance to rival the show of last year”.

She added: “The contestants are ready to continue their training in order to thrill you on the night of March 4th and today they sign the contracts to make it official.”

The named contestants are Jacinth Fagan, Ruth Augustine, Roselia Bazil, Cornillia Hazel, Nasha Faustin, and Earlene Labassiere.

In the Name of Allah, Most Beneficient, Most Merciful.

I ask, is this country a christian country or a pagan one? Isn’t the Bible the word of God for christians? Why aren’t the principles upheld by the people? Why do they support innovations or practices which do not support godly principles?

I do love Dominica and I appreciate culture like our foods, our diverse accents, our French Creole and many aspects of our culture which do not go against God’s injunctions. I would like to share from a muslim perspective my opinion from your own bible how women are expected to dress in our society.

Genesis 24:64-66 (New International Version, ©2010)

Rebekah also looked up and saw Isaac. She got down from her camel 65 and asked the servant, “Who is that man in the field coming to meet us?”

“He is my master,” the servant answered. So she took her veil and covered herself.

66 Then the servant told Isaac all he had done.

Commentary #1: We see veiling goes as far as Genesis. This was the dressing of the believing women, even the servant observed the veil.

Genesis 38:14 (New International Version, ©2010)

14 she took off her widow’s clothes, covered herself with a veil to disguise herself, and then sat down at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah. For she saw that, though Shelah had now grown up, she had not been given to him as his wife.

Commentary #2: Once again we see that it was known amongst the women to wear the veil.

Song of Solomon 4:1 (New International Version, ©2010)

1 How beautiful you are, my darling!
    Oh, how beautiful!
Your eyes behind your veil are doves.
Your hair is like a flock of goats
descending from the hills of Gilead.

Commentary #3: Women in the west mock muslim women for covering their eyes, however, this verse talks about her eyes behind the veil. Clear evidence of the practice of the believing women during the time of the prophets.

The christian may argue that they are not living in the old testament times but through the blood of Jesus Christ. So Mary rejected her own son? Why was she dressed in the veil? Why Jesus said that the best amongst you are those who follow and keep the commandments? It is clear that the christians are not following their text. The ‘queens’ are reduced to marketing commodities, selling their bodies and souls at a miserable price. I am critiquing the swim suit wear. The women vaginal lines are exposed in a bikini talking about queen? A queen is precious and endued with morals. She is a woman of stature and honour. These women are disgraced doing this to themselves. The idea of allowing women to compete in talents and evening wears can be modified as long as it does not contradict God’s principles.
