Shivaughn Johnson of Morne Daniel will represent Dominica in Barbados on June 28 for the Caribbean competition of Face of Shabeau after she emerged victorious from the local Face of Shabeau Model Search Competition held at Krazy Kokonuts Saturday night.
Johnson was among eight young ladies who competed.
Gholda James of Pointe Michel finished second and Shama S. St. Hilaire of Pichelin finished third. The other competitors were Paloma Mark (Roseau), Vanessa A. White (Copthall), Roann Jno Baptiste (Salisbury), Vinel Felix (Salisbury) and Ayanna Bruno of Atkinson, residing in Canefield.
The Face of Shabeau Competition began six years ago in Barbados. Since then, its organizers have branched out to host the show in other countries as far as Jamaica.
Last week, the Dominican finalists ranging from ages 16 to 24 were officially presented at the Krazy Kokonuts.
Following an island-wide search, 20 young ladies attended an audition for the Dominican edition of the competition, where eight were selected.
Creative Director of the Face of Shabeau, Mikieda Franklin told Dominica News Online that the competition stemmed from the Face of Shabeau Magazine.
She said the magazine is distributed locally.
Franklin noted that the competition has become quite popular. “It’s now gaining strength and it’s getting a bit larger; it’s reaching a larger audience,” she added.
The ultimate winner will be featured on the cover of the 2010 Shabeau magazine, become the magazine’s ambassador and a spokes model of Caribvision, as well as host Shabeau Style T.V. Additionally, the winner will receive signage with an international model agency, a professional electronic portfolio, cash prizes and have the opportunity to audition for international contracts through Shabeau’s associate group Trump Model Management.
The local participants’ makeup artist is Jael Joseph, who is contracted to The Glam.

After all the negativity the results have not changed. Why not support the one representing DA? Shivaughn didn’t declare herself winner. The judges did so get over yourselves. First of all that show was nonsense…if i were a contestant i would ask for a print out of the the judges’ tabulated results, because i cannot for the life of me understand how after a 5 week challenge, shivaughn won with 300 and whatever points!! that is absolute NONSENSE. Are they even sure that the points from the 5 weeks were counted?? Because i cannot understand how shama and gholda’s pics were just really plain throughout the competition and they DID NOT out perform the rest at the show and they were the ones that placed!
Secondly, as someone said, when they were advertising (the little that they did anyway) there were certain height requirements that were to be met and the short girls had to stay home while a certain “shorty” just happened to slip by the judges’ eyes to go on to win the competition.
NOT TO TALK ABOUT THE SHOW ITSELF! If you may notice, gholda, ayanna, vanessa, and a few of the other girls were wearing a certain swimsuit that they were told “HAD TO BE WORN IN THAT SECTION AND NOTHING ELSE” However, shivaughn was wearing the “sexy” swimsuit that was the highlight of the last photoshoot before the show!
In addition, the girls were told that they would be provided with shoes and other accessories the night of the show by the respective designers, HOWEVER, no one could find the said items backstage and once again, “conveniently” shivaughn was the only one who brought shoes for each round. One might claim sabotage??
Lets not jump to conclusions but sit back, relax and enjoy the unmistakeable CRAP that has taken place and not give ayanna and paloma the placing that they SHOULD have gotten.
WHATS YOURS WILL ALWAYS BE YOURS… and rumour has it that a top bajan designer has already scouted ayanna to model in an up and coming issue of MACO MAGAZINE!

this show just was not in it, for my part the way i expected her to come out with a bang she did not. for my part they cheated for her and she will not win or place in barbados i personally do not support anyone that did not win fair and square.

Why is it that Ms. Johnson knows that her height was a challenge gettin into the competition and was she able to produce amazing photos which made her look much taller than the others…and you say that she had this attitude like who say she wasnt going to win???? This is called CONFIDENCE.. something that all the other ladies lacked! So because Paloma licked the dirty hair that was dragging back stage and on stage and all where ever else the hair pass …she should have won??? Maybe the judges werent pleased. i was following ovr the five weeks as well and i really find paloma spoke well from the press launch were ms perfect shervon and some of the others made a mistake it was only a few like sharma , gholda and paloma that did not so say the truth. over the weeks she did not win but she and others placed shervon did not win all the challenges so get your facts straight. congrates to u vernessa , gholda and sharma for winning . the other girls were great !
shervon only walked in short heels as we saw on the night wat i observed is that wen she wore the high shoe she needed a stick to have balance which shows u that she is not ms experience after all.
another thing is that i think that cable and wireless should give the girls a phone for theirself and not wat they did, also the organisers should give the girls something for participating because i know they spent alot of there money.

Paloma did an excellent job….she is a great catwalk model for sure. That show was just a stepping stone….she will go far if she pursue modelling. In DA its always a struggle….but don’t worry about dat.

…..and anywayz, casper, shivaugh height does matters whether or not she wear 7 inch heels or not she is going to be on the catwalk in Barbados and the other ‘tall’ models WILL be wearing high heels, therefore Ms. Johnson will always be short, look short, stay short amongst them, okkkkkkkkk. Height is important as a model and that is a fact. size is important as a model and that is a fact. yes, fashion designers prefer skin and long bones on the catwalk and thats a fact…..( i will be an exception though)
The winner of face of shabeau not only going to be a spokesmodel, they will be getting an opportunity to be a part of a well established modeling agency. The competition is going to be tough in Barbados and shivaugh better bring it!
however, I am happy for her….she will be great as a print model. the winner will feature in the face of shabeau magazine so she stands a chance.
What people don’t want to admit that this was a competition and not every participant can win, if everyone emerged the winner then whats the point of having the competition in the first place. Secondly, we all know that each model had their supporters, these supporters wanted their perfered model to win , so Miss Johnson won, it is quite clear that they would not support the judges decision.As the old saying goes “Don’t hate the player , hate the game.” Dominicans always think that the judges are cheating. Case in point , when Nakita Bruno won the miss Dominica pagent in 2006, some people also thought that the judges favoured Nakita. However she went on to capture several regional titles :-) ……………………………………so people don’t cast your stones on the judges or Miss Johnson , she is not representing herself in Barbadoes, she is representing the Beautity that exist in the Nature Isle of the Caribbean.Show some support people.
Miss Johnson please generate a positve attitude from the feedback that you are recieving from the general public. Show them that you are a patriotic Dominica and you will represent your country including all the haters :-)

so i wasn’t at the show, but from what i gather shervon and paloma were killer in the walk, especially paloma. from the pictures i’ve seen my top three where shervon, paloma and ayanna anyway. all i can say is, ayanna is a BEAUTIFUL still model. a walk can be worked on. paloma has it going in both respects, being a still model, and wlaking down a runway. same goes for shervon. so in my opinion congrats to shervon for her win, but paloma and ayanna should have placed. and the judges shouldn’t have been dominican…..you know how some people just biased already. but only the judges know what they wanted. and their decision is always final. shervon, paloma and ayanna….along with the other ladies. keep doing your thing and keep ur heads up

Been watching some pictures of the competition, as i’m in England at the moment, but one thing i can tell you, this girl stuck out i’m not sure if her name is Rosanna or something like that, but so had THE BEST model faces from the pictures i’ve seen, and i intend on looking for her when i come down for the summer ;)

More proof that there was special treatment towards Shevon from day one:
1) When making the announcement about the competition on the radio, one of the requirements was a height of 5’7 or higher. Shevon is 5’2 ok guys. So right there, the rules did not apply.
2) Information reaching me also indicated that she received the best of everything to wear. For example, the chains on her face, something so outstanding while the other girls just had on make up…
I am also aware that the other girls just went with the flow knowing that Shevon was the judges favorite all along. They simply went on the last night to “enjoy themselves”…What was supposed to be a fierce look actually looked like a VEX look on majority of their faces. There were at least 2 who were determined to excel and none of them were placed. They put their chosen one from day on 1st, and then they just drop 2 others in the remaining places at random….which made it more obvious.
You see people, had they placed Paloma and Ayanna….there would have been widespread discussion on how and why did Paloma not win or Ayanna second and so on. So..they placed 2 people who should not be in the top 2 as 2nd and 3rd to make Shevon the chosen one look OUTSTANDING…..

Clearly her potential is far GREATER than just her height! She was chosen at the audition because she had the ability to do it, and she did!!! Y’all seem to forget Kate Moss and Eva Pigford are famous for their short stature but their ability to be spectacular models. And so can Shivaughn!!
In fashion shows, the models do not choose their outfits, so regardless if you think the best design was given to Shivaughn, it takes a damn good model to rock whatever she wears – be it a piece of foil or plastic. All the other models had chains in their outfits or in their hands, and Shivaughn had it on her face – so what!?!?!
Once again the results of the show were a compilation of the previous challenges throughout the 5 weeks, where she remained CONSISTENT. She rocked the stage on the final show, and she deserved to WIN.

Shevon was the choice from early in this thing. All the girls knew it and saw it. All of them. You know it, the judges (including SHaron) knows it, shevon herself knows it, because all along she acted like she had won already. And if you look closely at her comments AFTER HAVING WON, then you will see the attitude which suggest…”stupse..but who tell them I wasnt going to win nuh???”…

i agree with stay tuned from the beginning shevon was chosen during the five weeks all the judges plus the different challenges people had know her.. they all had preference towards her … one of the main judjes was jeal who was the make-up artist and she and shevon was best of friends … since on the day of the casting they had thier winner it was all unfair … the other girls were just drag along in oder to make the show what it was ….. firstly shevon was not the right height and when she gose and represent Dominica in Barbados preference will not help her look 5ft8 ….. from the round you could also see the unfairness while some of the girls were dressed in simple swim wear she had the most unique .. alsoher punk wear was the most unique and her dree was also one of the best they set it up so that shevon would win but anyone who was part of the show or watching closing would have saw the nonsense which was going on they should have made a fair decision but it wasnt

If y’all were really interested in the competition, you would have been following throughout and realise that the results were NOT only based on the 3 rounds on the final night but the entire 5 week process which composed of challenges throughout….Shivaughn was the only one consistent in ALL challenges…being in the top TWO in every challenge….so therefore, it contributed to the results added to her excellent performance on that night…fashion is NOT all about being pretty, and although Shivaughn is a beautiful person (I do not even know her, but I’ve been following the competiton), she defintely has what it takes to be a model..she is a model anyway!!! It’s not about her height because she has the capability to prove herself and she did!!! So whatever negative y’all have to say, keep it up cause that’s y’all job and clearly you can’t please everbody..so Shivaughn ignore all these haters and do what you do best!!!! Those hating wish they were in your shoes. Dominicans you guys need to travel. The judges decision is always final. The judges are looking fior something that you can’t see. Buy a ticket and go somewhere to view things differently. Its the same thing you did to the model from Dominica who was auditioned in the AmericaTop Model. All kind of negative comments.I have visited lots of countries from Europe to America, been to numerous shows and that has helped me to view things differently. So i would like to appeal to you ,do some traveling,instead of just gluing yourself in Dominica and talking …t. I hate it when people wash their mouths on others just because they do not like them or their favorite person didn’t win. In future no one will want to participate in any event ,because what ,you guys are too quick to jump to conclusion. Sometimes the judges do not even know the girls. Shivaugh and Paloma were the fiercest, and shivaugh deserved her win but paloma definitely deserved a positon as well.

All the contestant could have worked their hearts off but it was all in vain. The judges had already had their winner in their headS.
