The Sixth Form Sisserou Singers is once again promising to put on another exceptional performance when it stages its 19th production, Choral Legends this weekend.
“We are going to be paying tribute and sing songs that are considered legendary. We are also going to be featuring some legendary personalities. The production will provide an opportunity for reminiscing and getting back in touch, while recognizing those persons who are doing extremely well in music” President of the choir Leandra Lander said.
She added that this year’s show will comprise choral music, ranging from classical music, pop, reggae, soca, calypso and other genres. The show is expected to take place on July 5th and 6th at the Arawak House of Culture and July 7th at the Portsmouth Catholic Church Hall. Proceeds from the Portsmouth performance will go towards the building fund of the Portsmouth Catholic Church.
Lander said that the singers will once again be honouring an individual who has contributed to music development in Dominica.
“This year will be recognizing Dermot Southwell. He has been singing for almost half a century and is now an active member of the Bethesda Methodist Church where it can be said that he is a prolific based singer. Mr Southwell has sung with the Riversong choir along with many other choirs.”
Lander pointed out that the show has something for everyone and encouraged the public to come out in large numbers to support the group. The show is expected to begin at 8:00 pm on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th and 7:00 pm on Sunday 7th July under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency Eluid Williams.
