“Smokie Cut” releases video

Smokie CutGoodwill-born, Jihad “Smokie Cut”Jean Jacques has released the video version of his song “When things are bright” which captures what he described as ‘typical human nature’.

The song was released about year ago and the video was release on January the 1, 2015.

Half of the video was shot in June and the other half in November 2014, Jean Jacques told DNO.

“It shows typical human nature,” he explained. “When things are blooming you have a lot of people who are there with you, enjoying life. If things are bad, fake friends disappear.”

Jean Jacques said the concept of the song came about when he lost his brother in 2013.

Jean Jacques is a singer, song writer, video director/editor and entrepreneur and describes himself as a humble, down to earth person who love making others laugh and feel comfortable.

“I’m a serious and passionate about my music, I am very elated that I was able to seal-up another video. So it’s back to the drawing board to finish editing other videos I shot,” he stated

Jean Jacques said the video cost “my precious time and love of music” and many of those who took part in its prodcution were volunteers. He said he is grateful to them.

Smokie keep doing great music. Dominicans don’t support anything. Ask these negative people the last time they bought and mp3 or cd from a Dominican artist. Shout out a Smokie Cut. Negative people are always going to be a downer because they don’t know better. God bless those like Smoke for fighting against the norm

For all who negatively commented. I would like to see you do better. Can you write, edit, direct or put on a great performance. Ofcourse not. And there is no point doing music any other way but the way of its origin. Rihanna is from Barbados and she sings r&b/pop. Would she sell if she sang in Barbados native tonge?

People will always talk. No matter what you do. Dont worry about them small minded people. Just keep moving up. They should be glad dominica has a star. And that is just what you are a super star. Before they criticize your name they should see your birth paper. And to criticize your accent is just pure jealously. You people must stop hate and learn to appreciate. Ji job well done. I loveèeeee it.keep up the good work.

He sings the truth… SMOKIE, Jean JACQUES OR ALL other the names he could have, embodies all what some people” could not be… Smokie stay as you are even if there are always people with bad opinions.. As he said in one of his song DEM SIT AND TALK… Lot of people criticizes him but they did not do half of what he did… LOVE this humble singer…

Great song , heartfelt message. You are a great artist I hope you continue to progress . IT is always easy to say negative things . I can’t imagine all the hard work that was put into this song and video . I’m proud of you not only as a dominican but as an artist. We live in a world where everyone has their unique style, to each his own. Continue striving

Its easy to sit and be critical of another’s talent…smokie has a unique sound that when u hear his music u know it’s him….u either like it or u don’t there’s no in between. We a here asking him to change his name and hiving hell for his sound….did we fail to realize he said that he has written, produced and directed his videos and not robbed anyone? What we need to address is how poorly this article was written…what the heck is prodcution?

      • Titiwi
        January 14, 2015

Well, he can always change his name. Tiyani Behanzin did. He did not like the name Robert Douglas his parents gave him. No problem!

  24. Dr
    January 13, 2015

Let me get this straight? He sang a song, produced a video and all you care about is his accent? Does it matter to you? Is either you like the song or you don’t. The people who are always the first to talk NEVER SUPPORT their own. When was the last time you downloaded a triple Kay, Fanatic, Swinging Stars or WCK album?……………………. *crickets* I thought so. Be proud of our own and give him the push he needs.

    • PS
      January 13, 2015

You see Dr, we all have the freedom of choice, to reject or accept, even to criticize. Don’t forget that and don’t get offended if someone does not like your choice. I personally for instance have no time for the unfortunately named triple K but there is no point in arguing about taste. Either you like it, don’t liek it or are indifferent. I certainly don’t support a band or singer simply because they are home grown. They must have talent….and I must enjoy their product, whether they come from Dominica or not. It#’s my money I’m spending and I decide.

Who knows? or maybe thats just his style

    January 13, 2015

What name? His name is his name his accent is the problem. no one in D/a has a Jamaican accent.

The first thing you should do is change your name.

  29. Woosh
    January 13, 2015

WHAT IN THE FARFUGNUGN! (and I’m really shouting..). When will these Dominican guys sing in their own accent! I am disgusted and fed up. The girls sing as Americans and the boys sing as Jamaicans.
    Sakway gas man!!!
