A “Make or Break” elimination round on the final night might have to be done to determine the monarch of the Stardom Tent carded to begin on Saturday, January 5.
Normal Letang, manager of the Tent, said this is because of the large number of calypsonians participating.
30 calypsonians are expected to perform at the tent.
They include Karessah, Hunter, Observer, Scrunter, Daddy Chess, Beno, Webb, Lugas, Black Diamond, Checko, Comforter, Checker, Picky, Twanna, Explosion, Man Himself, Electra, Son of the Saint, DBS, Sour Sour, Intruder, Dyno, Big Jeff, Energiser, Pawol, Lady Star, Jammer Bee, Shadow Flow, Judgement and Black Ghost.
Letang pointed out that the “Calypso Tug of War” introduced last year will be done again this year.
Meanwhile, Events Director of the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC), Natalie Clarke-Meade made an appeal to everyone to be a team player to ensure the success of all the tents.
“We need to really get serious about networking amongst ourselves, about finding the will and the ownership to be good team players to own the fact that in our region and at this time we must begin to see all companies as cross promoters we can no longer do this by ourselves every single company must understand the dynamics of team work and being a great team player,” she said.
Meade added that working together as a team is vital for maintaining the uniqueness of Dominica’s culture.
Stardom Tent received $25,000 worth of sponsorship from Digicel in cash and kind. Belfast Rum is also sponsoring to the tune of $10,000 while the other sponsor is Scotiabank with an $8,000 donation.
Calypso must leave Roseau….It will be a wonderful idea to have a few of the tents in other areas of the country. Obviously the appeal and demand has to be there in order for it to be a profitable venture…
It would really be great if the Banks come together to sponsor at least a queen contestant; or even DIGICEL, all the funds should not be concentrated in one aspect of carnival.
tru dat
it would be nice if they can organize to bring the tent down north (portsmouth) for at least one of the nights…a few years back they brought it at Azille’s country club and it was well received and much appreciated
