Organizers of the popular Wet Fete are making it clear students are not welcomed at the event.

Wet Fete 2014 is expected to take place at the Sisserou Hotel on Sunday 23rd and one of the organizers, Hillary ‘Tilly’ Thomas pointed out it is for mature patrons only.

“I am talking to a certain set of people, you see the younger generation, those that going to high school? They got a show in the park called Teenage Pageant, we are asking you to please go and support your show,” he stated. “Please, Wet Fete is a big people party, small people party is around the Savannah … grown mature folks that have a right to vote, they can enter Wet Fete.”

Thomas described the event as “trying to make a difference in Dominica’s entertainment.”

He is promising a “very nice show” this year. “We are going to have a little more flavor, a little more vibes, a little more energy from the show,” he noted. “Every year we try to lift it up. Everywhere I go out I see different things, I try to bring it in … this year we have a lot of attractions I don’t want to let it out of the bag, but it’s going to be of a very high standard.”

He also said there will be tight security. “You come in, you get searched, no matter how many times you go outside you will be searched,” he stated. “We bring safety to our business. We don’t want no incident, because the first year we had some incident and from that we have tightened up on our security.”

A number of local bands and a ‘surprise foreign artiste’ will be performing at the show.

I really don’t understand what he means by that statement. No offence but Mr. Tilly could have fixed up what he said, since he knows its for public consumption. If your speaking to friends, no problem. So if I attend Ross or the Sate college I annoy attend. A simple “no patrons under 18” would have great. Time we grow up in Dca. I speak slang web with friends but whenever I need to I bring out the proper English.

Tilly action speaks louder than words. Its disgusting to see these kids at theses types of parties it seems like money is what matters to you all, Bello is NO different. There should be an age limit to enter these adult events. On another note. PARENTS if your kids are out at a certain time if they are under 18yrs old. Its your responsibility to enforce rules instead of partying with your young ones or letting them go astray.

Why do some of you like to call people hypocrite? Are you insinuating that you are not a hypocrite? People have a right to their views. They have different preferences and what type of show they are interested in and feel comfortable to attend. What suits one does not suit the other and vice versa. I would not be interested in such a show. Be broadminded.

““Please, Wet Fete is a big people party, small people party is around the Savannah … grown mature folks that have a right to vote, they can enter Wet Fete.”

Hate me, like me if you wish; I do not care!

However, I will for the rest of my life expose the stupidity of our people, the language in the quote above I would expect to come from an uneducated peasants, however, some peasants would have chosen a better choice of words.

“Wet feet is a big people party.”

How does one define “big people and small people;” is someone referring to the size, height, and weight of an individual in order to determine a big person, in comparison to a small person?

Should one consider a fat five hundred pound individual an big person, and some weighing a hundred fifty pounds a small or little person?

I mean such comments are so and dumb, it simply makes absolutely no sense, because someone can be seventy years old, and stands four feet two inches tall, and weigh ninety pounds. Someone can be seventeen, or nineteen years old, stands six feet four inches tall, and weigh two hundred pounds, that is very common, and natural!

Another bit of crap here is that students are not welcome! I get the impression that there is discrimination involved here, because I assume that most of the students who attends the Dominica State College, by now are all mature adults, of which most of them may be over twenty years old; so, are the people who coined this despicable fraise suggesting that people in their twenty’s are little people.

    How stupid can we get?

People are human beings making up a group, or assemble, or linked by a common interest. So how do we define “big people , and small little people.” If the person said adults only, no children allowed, that would be better understood.

I see black on black discrimination, or shall I say Dominicans discriminating against Dominicans here!

He didn’t just end on big people party… if u were so educated u would read further… he said people who have the right to vote…so in other words persons who a 18 and older… ally Dominicans just fast.. chupess

      February 20, 2014

You could have made a constructive criticism here, but instead I see discrimination against someone who may not be able to speak the language properly. I have noticed a few errors in your post, Mr Imperfect Perfectionist. Next time you may want to edit a few times before posting. However I do agree with the point you were trying to make, if not how you went about saying it. I already know you will criticise my post, so prove me wrong.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        February 20, 2014

Well, if you pointed out my exact diction or grammar you considered wrong, perhaps I would be in a better position not to make the same error in the future.

I remember a little boy who have grown into a man, who had some difficulties spelling a word when he was a kid, when he discovered he had difficulties spelling the word, he drew it to the attention of one of his parents, and asks the parent to tell him how the word is spelt.

The parent responded be telling the little boy, “I don’t know, you are the one going to school, you should know how to spell it.”

Do not be surprised to learn to this very day that little boy has grown into a man, yet he still does not know how to spell that word; the man is not a dunce, or dumb, he is very successful, highly educated, and I may say academically.

However, I suspect from the time his parent told him he should know, somehow, in some psychological way he developed a mental block where it pertains to the word, hence for all of his adult life, and with all his successes, he still cannot spell that word!

So if you do not identify my error, I may continue to make the same mistake again, and again! I am open to learning, and correction, if you can teach me something, I will gladly accept your correction.

        Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque

      February 20, 2014

The question here is how stupid can YOU be? it’s obvious the quote “Wet fete is a big people party.” is a figure of speech. I assume that you’re from this beautiful island and you of all people should understand our slang. Actually that you don’t even need to be from dominica to understand what he meant. Take Huggies’ slogan “I’m a big kid now.” for example…the children in the commercials are nowhere near “big” or “fat” they use is as a figure of speech. the children feel as if they are “mature” because they can use the toilets etc. on their own. I’m sorry to say Sir/Ms…but you are an ignorant individual who wanted to rant on something.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        February 20, 2014

“Wet fete is a big people party.” is a figure of speech. ”

If you believe that to be a figure of speech, I see no need to argue with you, less I become like you, so I am happy to remain as stupid as I am!

        Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Let me prove to you between you and I who is stupid; or the most stupid.

I’ll do that by saying when we speak figuratively, we are representing by a figure, or resemblance, something emblematic, of or relating to representation of form, or figure. Expressing one thing in terms normally denoting another with which it may be regarded as analogous, or shall I say metaphorically.

Remember I did not trouble you, you are the one who term me stupid, see what you can do with what is written above and decide which of us is just outright stupid!

        Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

        Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque

      • Really? xD
        February 23, 2014

“When a person says something that is not meant to be taken literally — or meaning exactly what the words say — the phrase is being used figuratively. For example, a boy might say, “When I heard the ice cream truck outside, I flew out the front door and out to the street.” Of course, the boy did not fly, he merely ran quickly, so the word “flew” is being used figuratively. When someone says, “I died laughing,” he or she did not actually die, so the phrase is only a figure of speech.

When people use figures of speech, they often do not point them out, especially when they are obvious. For example, a woman probably would not say, “I froze to death, figuratively speaking,” because if she had actually frozen to death, she would not be speaking. Likewise, the boy who “flew out the front door” would not need to point out that he cannot actually fly. At times, though, it is necessary to include a disclaimer such as “figuratively speaking” to clarify whether something is being said literally or figuratively.”

Anonymous, I maintain a certain amount of class and discipline, I refuse to associate myself with filth: I do not associate with anything which could cause me to develop into someone perverted. I have never been to a strip club in the thirty plus years I am living in Los Angeles.

I have never seen a sign which reads Brothel or whatever that is in my travels around all of North America, which comprise only America, Canada, and Mexico

Not even in sin city (Las Vegas) have I ever seen anything which remotely resembles a “Brothel” there might be in existent, but I do not know where. When I travel, I my choice of place to stay, are the largest, and most expensive Hotels, that choice assures my safety whiles I am asleep.

If I need to see a nude body, I have more than two girlfriends, as a matter of fact plenty women whom I can see nude anytime I wish oui!

That teenage pageant should be held in the afternoon to early evening or until sundown and then they should go home. These days children have too much freedom. You know what this could produce.
Parents must bring their children up in such a manner so that they are not out in the evenings. When they become adults they will have more than enough time to stay out late and go wherever they so wish and stay out for as long as they want.

The police should send them home. They are too young to attend an adult function which the police should also raid, shut down and charge the organizers. Please do not tell me that the police authorities are lax and give approval for this fete.
