It is said that the sunflower follows every movement of the sun. Well this Sunflower couple did outshine their fellow flower competitors on Saturday night at the Arawak House of Culture.
Lyndelle Joseph and Sylver Timothy parents of students attending the T.C. Sunbeam Pre-school, won the first ever Mr. and Miss Blossom competition which was organized by the T.C. Sunbeam Pre-school in collaboration with the Bright Beginning and St. Alphonsus Pre-schools.
On the way to the title, Joseph and Timothy copped awards for Best Creative wear, Best in Creative Wear and Best Speech.
Their prize is a trip to St. Lucia compliments L’ Espress des Illes.
Coming close behind in the 1st runner up position, were Shereen Laronde and Eric Cognet representing Pink and White Roses.
They will receive handsets compliments LIME with top-up.
2nd runner up went to Geradine Davis and Shirvon Baronthe who displayed Hibiscus flowers.
They have won a gift package from VF Inc.
They took the awards for Best in Evening Wear and Best Evening Wear.
Moments after being crowned, Joseph, decked in a bright yellow and silver evening gown accentuated by her red lips and a single sunflower in her hair and Timothy in his well fitted black suit and yellow accents, said they were feeling overwhelmed.
“Quite overwhelmed,” said Timothy, “I want to say thank you to all those who contributed, all those who supported us, because it’s not an easy road, considering that it was the first ever Mr. and Miss Blossom, but through the grace of the almighty father Yahweh and the love of friends we pulled through and here we are today victorious.”
“I’m relieved that all the hard work, all the planning and building and practising finally paid off, we won for our school,” Joseph said, pointing out that in their opinion, the creative wear round gave them the extra push.
They depicted a farmer pushing his cart on stage with the biggest sunflower plant in it. He watered and took care of it, and it gave him a great surprise of turning into a beautiful lady, with an enormous sunflower hat, and they were both very happy.
The other participants the Zinias, represented by Nadine Sylvester and Jude Deracin and the Carnations- Wendy Glenville and Marlon Alexander got the award for the Best Talent.
The show was held to raise some much needed funds for the T.C. Sunbeam school building fund and is also expected to create an environment where children and families can experience coming together for their well-being.
It is expected to be an annual event.

Why are our men increasingly taking part in pageants? Are trying to get in touch with their feminine sides?
