She won Miss intelligence, best in swim wear, best in evening wear, best in creativity wear, best evening wear categories.
The show was held at the Krazy Kokonuts on Saturday evening.

I’m tired of hearing how your body doesn’t need carbs. a balanced diet (with or without meat), portion control and a little exercise goes a long way. being fat is not fine, sorry. if an overweight person woke up thinner one morning I don’t think they’d wish to go back to being fat.

True that, America does have a VAST SUPPLY of all types of food, but we have a VAST SUPPLY of all Nationalities too. Fortunately you all are blessed to be from a place with like natural stuff. Fresh fruit, the sea! Man, we got man-made lakes. I don’t even know how to swim. Most of the stuff we eat here is PROCESSED, I mean, we do have access to fresh fruit and veggies, etc…but like, wow, fresh fish, conch, and all the other stuff yall be eating, youre blessed.
Just because we have access to organic foods doesn’t mean we eat it or can afford it. Its cheaper to get something off the $1 menu at McDonalds versus going to Whole Foods and finding something quick to eat. I dont think Whole Foods even takes Food Stamps, but thats another story.

I’m thick,and beautifull and nothing wrong with that,plus I take my regular dr visits to make sure I’m healthy,so anybody against the thickness of many Dominican women cud go to France and stay thin all their life for my concern hm,all women not meant to be thin lol I lost 30 pounds last year and toned up everything(um I hated that look)I’m back to my old self and its great,butttt there’s a but,there’s a line between thick and fat trust me,I looked at some of the pics and hm some of the women really even past fat,they’re Obese hm,I am all for thick and beautiful cuz I’m one hehehe,but maybe if I sign-up for next year the promoters will say I too small hm hm,I’m for the show trust me but um,a lot of obesity was advertised its not healthy

…Do you remember back in the 60’s and 70’s fat was healthy in Dominica and “meg” was like a disgrace? I remembered being bullied at primary school because I was considered “meg”. This led me stealing my mother’s oil, adding it to everything I ate and even sometimes drinking it1
After all those health talks and radio programs we have been hearing about the dangers of being overweight, its seems like some of us have been totally deaf or just plain stupid. From some of the comments being posted here I can see some promoters of all kinds deseases caused by obesity. Seems like there are still some slim body haters in this country.

Obesity is a problem that affects many nations in the world, and will only continue to get worst. However, people still need to be respected and valued as human beings. It is true that being obese is a serious health issue, but cigarette smoking and alcoholism is no better. Being small minded is no better. Beating and showing disrespect to our woman are no better. Also, being judgmental and envious is also no better. We also have to remember that there are many thin people who suffer from diabetes and hypertension. What we need to do is to continue to educate people about the importance of eating healthy, and the consequences of not doing so, but under no circumstances should we take someone dignity and self respect just to satisfy our ignorant and hypocritical life. Most of the people who are doing most of the judging of people in Dominica are those who are uneducated, unloving, unkind, have nothing to offer society, and is usually a complete unproductive fool.

I totally agree! There is nothing elegant about most of these pics. Many are quite distasteful. I agree that people come in all shapes and sizes but plus sized women- actually all women- need to know how to dress to compliment their body type. Very few of these women understood this concept. Accentuate the positives and find ways to camouflage the negatives!!! Not everything ‘fashionable’ will look good on u!

Oh I have a great idea: why don’t we round up some of the fattest women around and put them on stage. In that way we can promote an environment by which we can disregard obesity as a growing problem in our soceity.

It is a nice gesture trying to give women of a larger size confidence in their image and body. But it is true we should not be promoting an unhealthy life style. Obesity is a serious disease. Everyone cannot be a size 2; but eating healthy foods with the right portions and incorporating a good exercise regime will give people the right kind of confidence in their body.

We are soooo negative. We are too intolerant and insensitive to persons who look and are different from us. Yes, there is an obesity problem in Dominica and in most countries as well. But degrading these women who apparently seem comfortable in their skin is not the way to go.
Health is important both to the skinny and the overweight. Health issues affects us all whether we are skinny or fat.
Maybe We can encourage Tamayo to use her tittle to encourage other plus size women to go on a healthy weight loss program together with her. Rally them to choose healthy foods instead of the junk food, become more active, walk the different trails on Saturdays.

I’m all for the ‘Miss Plus Size…’ pageant as beauty really comes in many shapes and sizes.There are plus size models all over the world to prove this. However,looking at the pics of some of the contestant doesn’t portray the ‘big women can be beautiful and elegant’ theme the show organizers were aiming for.
With the exception of a few , the majority of these women were severely overweight, out of shape, obese and very disgusting to look at.
I’m not trying to be mean and i do apologize if my comment comes across as being so. I’m simply being honest.
The show organizers could have selected contestants who were in better shape. One can be ‘plus size’ and still be in reasonable shape.
I wouldn’t think it would be appropriate to put on a pageant where the women have rolls like there’s no other, overlapping flesh hanging all over and bulging abdomen.I could have seen that at Sea World. After all, its still a beauty pageant isn’t it ?

LIKE THE FANATIC FETE COULD BE DONE ANOTHER NIGHT, WE HAD THE CALYPSO SHOW ALSO WHICH COMPETE WITH THE BIG BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL SHOW FOR PATRONS. JUST A THOUGHT. WELL DONE LADIES.
Bless up all. I believe we missed the objectives of the show…It is to make women who may not be the typical model size fell that they are capable and beautiful. They and the audience however must not mistake this venture to encourage obesity.And I don’t believe that it was to encourage people to beome overweight. Dominica is on top of the list in the OECS as being obese. That is sad when we have resources to take care of ourselves. Anyway, it is still worth applauding in terms of the intentions and the ladies’ confidence.

Well i see many people on here promoting stupidity too. These girls are not encouraging anyone to get big or stay big. It is only a pageant. Is the queen show promoting being slim? It certainly is not. Is Mr.Dominica promoting something too? Do tell. Some of you just being ridiculous. Everyone has a right to feel beautiful. Whether they healthy, unhealthy– at the end of the day it is , in fact, their problem. What we need to learn to do is shut our idiot mouths and let people live their life without imposing our standards on them.
Well, i do not believe that anyone of us should be surprised by the negative comments here. After all, we are a very intolerant people. Besides, we, Dominicans, tend to prefer bad news over positivity.
Yes, there is an obesity problem in D/ca, as was indicated recently in some published report. However, this event makes a very loud statement to all persons who have been told that they do not fit in because of size, age, height, race, whatever. It speaks for all thsoe who have tried to lose weight and are struggling still. It says, be happy within your skin and do not remain burdened, enslaved, by what others believe you should be. Of course, in a society where you have to be like me or you must share my opnion or else you will be ostracized, this message is lost on many of my compatriots, i suppose. Sad.
Many persons who have been told that they do not fit in become self-destructive or resort to various forms of anti-social behaviour. These women are my heroes because they dare to stand out and tell the rest of the intolerant and insensitive Dominicans to go suck on something rancid!

so because someone is on the heavy end of the scale that means they must stay inside and hide. Just because someone is skinny that doesnt mean that they are healthy. Skinny pple have diabetes, hypertension and heart problems too eh so dont forget that. It have lots of big pple that are more active than a lot of the skinner persons out there so dont get it twisted. I personally think that they had guts and were comfortable in their skin however being overweight brings along with it alot of health issues.
Lily you mentioned that slim people do get Diabetes and Hypertension and yes whilst that is true do you also know that if you have a BMI(Body Mass Index) which is above your age range that this spells trouble.
Diabetes Type 2 is very common in Dominica and yes obseity and diet are the main cause of this.
I would like to just probably suggest as someone pointed out below that maybe the organisers of the show should look into forming a health group whereby these women encourage each other to excercise and loose weight not just for the benefit of looking good but primarily for their health.
They are all beautiful women but I just think we are sending the wrong message.We should encourage healthy eating habits and daily excercise.

It seems to me that if Dominicans are not cursing Dominicans they dont think they can talk.
That show was terrible from start to finish. Everything was just ridiculously annoying. The host was rude and out of place many times. He was more interested in whining and ahaking his tail feather instead of properly entertaining the crowd. Those Dominicans in the audience were disrespectful and just plain interruptive. Why cant black people confer gate anywhere an have a grand old time is beyond me. Omg did it take a bloody long time for these big women too get ready. Omg! It seem that crying down skinny women was the theme of the night. Did they not realize that we were in the audience showing support whether at the show or viewing online? Please have little bit more confidence in all yourselves. As women we shouldnt be fighting against each other to see who’s sexually more attractive. We should be joinin together to work against some these unscrupulous men that some how have found their way into our society. The kind that bring black women down. Stop that big girl skinny girl business. Then the one who spoke about not having diabetes and high blood pressure needs to realize that even though such diseases aren’t her misfortune just yet, it shouldn’t give then an excuse to eat or remain in this shape. They were all beautiful women and a healthy workout routine wouldn’t hurt one bit!
To the show organizers: why was it necessary to constantly read out who the advertisers were even though people were already sitting through delay and annoyance? A long list of people and companies who should be embarrassed for supporting thus show as it was terribly done.
Lastly, my friends warn me about y’all crap but yeah i guess I had a problem with my money right where it was in my bank account. I paid $ 5.99 too watch this mess on comeseetv. The least they could have done is properly respond to my concerns about the video sticking. There was never a time when the video stop sticking and infact it kept going offline. It is stealing and plain thievery to take people’s money and not provide the service for which they paid for! I hate supporting local crap for this one reason that if something goes wrong I can’t get my money back. But this isn’t over. Comeseetv people should realize that they will have lots of other shows to stream for Dominicans . They also forget they have competitors for the major shows. Two major shows coming up is queen and calypso show. A reputation and reliabilty is very important. If you’re not in the business to have these two qualities then fall the hell back! Is a bad habit all you have, because I see people complain on your fb page without any response. Numusiczone weren’t streaming but you can trust they that if they are doing so for the queen show and they decide to charge me $20 to view it I will pay it willingly, for the quality and service. When I can with an issue or have questions, I always get a response. That’s why businesses does koolay in DA because folks have no customer service. They know damn well what to do but feel like they can do what they want. There’s always a replacement for your business trust me. Real entrepreneurs prude themselves in diligent service to their consumers and providing a reliable product. Y’all got none of that! If you’re a true business person you could show good faith by giving me my money back a.k.a a refund!

For a show of that “kind of calibre” I am in fact appalled that you were willing to pay to watch and then come here complaining about the show. Granted if the streaming was bad say so, but why would someone want to pay to watch something just to criticize it? That my friend beats me. I do not believe that you have not highlighted at least one good thing about the entire event! We should be a bit scared of people who only see the negative side of things.

She has every right to express her feelings towards the show and for poor service she paid for. You on the other hand have zero invested and should allow payers to talk. Sorry, but I think people have things very confused here. Dominica has serious health issues and related to obesity and we are applauding obesity?
There is plus size, there is over weight, there is plump, and there is obese, like it or not and I am in NO WAY trying to be mean, but the truth is these women are clinically obese. Have you any idea the high incidence of hypertension in young women in Dominica? Seriously, there should be a full scale health drive and get fit campaign. Please don’t encourage women to believe obesity is beautiful or healthy, we all know its not. Look around people and begin by looking at the kids…….the overweight problems begin here. It is an unhealthy state of affairs to say the least.

It is clear that your ignorance has hindered your ability to understand the fact that not because someone weighs more than the average woman it means that the woman is ill or unhealthy. There are a number of contributing factors to weight gain in a woman such as hormonal imbalances and other such issues which causes a woman to gain weight even with diet and exercise. I myself was once a tiny young woman and developed hormonal issues which landed me in the bracket of “above average weight” and other than my hormonal issues, I am completely healthy. NO cholesterol problems, no diabetes or hypertension or any other problems associated with “OBESITY”. So be wise and educate yourself before you come down on people for having some extra pounds..
you have it all wrong… the name of the show is plus size and elegant, not obese and loving it. these women are not promoting obesity, they are just trying to make people realize that they are beautiful people too, obese or not. the world will never be full of healthy, fit and skinny people…we come in different shapes and sizes, we just have to learn to accept each other.
