The House of Shingles DVD now available

Dominican and theatre lovers now have the opportunity to view a locally staged play at the homes.

This is made possible by the recent launching of the first stage play on DVD “The House of Shingles” by the New Dimension Theatre.  Not only is this event a major landmark, but more importantly it marked the beginning of a new direction, new focus for the New Dimension.

According to the groups Artistic Director Steve Hyacinth the  launching of this DVD is just the beginning as the group intends to produce  a variety of educational, entertaining, humorous and high quality work for  television purposes on a regular basis.

The next major activity of the group is  another performance of its intriguing and hilarious comedy “Your Son My Husband”  at the Goodwill Primary School Auditorium on Monday 09, 2010 as part of the  Goodwill Reunion Celebrations.  Your Son My Husband written and directed by Steve Hyacinth takes a look at an estrange relationship between a mother and her daughter–in-law . A young man (Johnny )  is caught between the love of his mother (Ma Popo and the love of his wife (May) . To put it bluntly,  Johnny marries a woman against the wishes of her choice.  His mother, motivated by her ambitions, perception and dominant attitude  is determined to go extraordinary lengths to break up the marriage. The young couple  on the other hand, believes that marriage can be the most exciting fulfilling aspect of a person’s life and they are determined to make it work.  The play is  swift moving, exciting, intriguing and hilarious.

This will be the 15th performance of the play  Your Son My Husband in Dominica. In addition, it has also been staged in Barbados, Trinidad, Antigua, St Lucia, Martinique, St. Maarten and at Carifesta X in Guyana before large and appreciative audiences. It is a must see performance. Once is never enough.

Your Son My Husband features Donille Blackmore as Ma Popo, Harry Sealy as Franky, Minerve Lewis as May,  Meritta Hyacinth as Angie, Al Mathurine as Johnny, Anthony Alexander as BO and Lloyd Benjamin as Mr Evans.

The 16th performance of  Your Son My Husband will in collaboration with the Goodwill Reunion Committee will held  be held at  the Goodwill Primary School Auditorium on  Monday 09 August at 8:00pm. Tickets cost $20.00.  A silent/Dutch auction will also be held during intermission.
