Three new-comers have found favour with the judges at the elimination round of the 2016 calypso competition which took place at the Harlem Plaza before a packed audience on Saturday night
Former junior calypso monarch Janae is listed among the three. The other new-comers are Jerd, the lead singer of the Look Us Band and Raheem. Also back are veterans Beno, Sye, Soul Puss, Peter Prosper, Webb, Checker, Checko, Shadow Flow and Hard Liner, making up the 12 selected.
The three reserves are new-comers Oxygen, Earl White Jr and second-timer Charis D.
The quarter-final is set for January 9th, 2016.

Here’s a suggestion for the Association. Modernize the Eliminations to attract a larger crowd and make more money. Give the 3 judges buzzers. If 2 judges press their buttons then a buzzer would sound with a red X on stage and the band should stop playing. This would occur after 1 verse in some cases which are songs that should not event be in there in the first place. Each judge should get 1 save/golden button who will automatically go to the next round. The judges would think twice before they prematurely eliminated persons for fear of being blasted as the crowd would know for sure who they would have eliminated.
This way you speed up the show so that it finishes in good time. More persons to patronize the gate and the bar. The band does not get exhausted, the judges attention span is kept to the maximum, the crowd is well satisfied and some characters would think twice before entering the competition to waste people time if they have an idea that they would get buzzed out of…
As a lover of calypso, and a person who listened to each and every calypso that night, Earl White and Charis D were excellent, only thing with charis d was her lyrics she could have had more lyrics but that lil girl sings from her heart, you could feel her when she sing,Earl white was just beautiful.I also loved Raheem and Janea these four were my top calypsonians, the judges need to be changed for eliminations

Why didn’t the Derose sing the Cat song for the Eliminations? He was one of the Calypsonians who disappointed me. Was for sure looking for something big from him this year. Guess the Pussy cat messed him up.

The calypso association needs to filter the judges they choose at the eliminations and have more experienced judges there instead of those who are easily intimidated by crowd response and cannot understand the lyrical content of the songs. Additionally they must also have pre-eliminations as having 60 plus people is total madness on one night. All of the people who made it with the exception of two were in the top 30. The quarter-finals number is at 32 this year, including wizard and tronada. Isn’t it clear that on one night there should be only a maximum of 30 songs ? Mr.President you and your team think this over….. Don’t mess up calypso.
You just cannot please all Dominicans. Why don’t you put yourself in the line of fire to judge rather than staying behind a PC and typing nonsense. Did you watch the entire show? If not then you should be quiet. The show is definitely too long and a change is needed in the format. The judges for the night have experience (13 years, 7 years and 3 years judging respectively). With a show like this you will not get everyone that you want going through simply because picking 12 out of 76 is tough. Additionally we all have our individual biases which is what makes all of us unique. Hats off to the judges who volunteer their time and contribute to the art form. The results are good and I look forward to a great season.

Why is sour and wok sup wasting people time. Some of those crap that I heard last night should no way make it close to the stage. There is no way soul puss making it to next round and earl white JR on reserve. He had best voice on there, kept his key and the beat and had a great song. Soul puss sang and sounded like crap. What is really the judging criteria. They need to screen these songs before making it to elimination, or have a section for worst calypso. Half of these songs should not be on stage.
Wow… based on a short video I saw EarlWhite have some real good melody and rendition, looked quite comfortable I thought he would gain a spot in that top 12 .. Congratulations to all let’s make it big this year … Mass Camp we expecting big things this year we going to dominate that finals …
