Some of Dominica’s top calypsonians will face each other on stage tonight in the Monarch of Monarchs competition at the Stardom Tent.
Caressa, Hunter, Observer, Daddy Chess and Scrunter have each won the coveted national crown through the years and the competition will give them the opportunity to show who will come up on top.
Hunter will be performing “Caribakanal,” Scrunter will be singing “Catholic,” Caressa “Bomb Threat,” Observer “Spirit of the Carnival,” and Daddy Chess “Forward we go.”
The winner will not only be hailed the Monarch of the Monarchs but will receive several prizes. “Apart from getting the title, they will be also be given $500 and a ticket to either Martinique, St. Lucia or Guadeloupe from L’Express des Isles,” Leroy ‘Wadico’ Charles, an organizer of the event, said. “From that we are going to have the first ever Stardom Comedy Monarch show featuring Unwanted, Sour Sour, Big Jeff, DBS and Energizer.”
The winner of that competition will win $200 plus and tickets to any of the destinations served by L’Express des Isles.
Charles pointed out that the 15 semifinalists in the calypso competition will be given the opportunity to sharpen their skills at tonight’s show. “We have 15 semi finalists….they will all be sharpening their skills towards the grand semifinals to try to secure one of those nine places into the finals,” he said.
The carnival queen pageant contestants and the Dominica State College Jamboree contestants will also make an appearance.
Tonight’s show will also include what Charles described as an open competition where patrons will be given the opportunity to sing on relevant topics.
Despite the packed schedule Charles said he hopes the show which is scheduled to begin at 8.00 pm, ends by 1:00 am or, at least, by 1:30 am.

so if we areso united in our calypso why don t each tent from tie to time invite a singer from the other tent and vice versa to take part in their tent? and why don t each tent bring their top four and have something for the patrons even if is after the season?

its already fixed that they are going to give it to chess,which this year does not meet the criteria for finals.
