Triple K and WCK are being told to be on the lookout this year as a Bouyon band is on the return.
According to sources, MFR (Music For Real) out of Portsmouth may launch under a new name. A source has informed Dominica News Online that that the musicians out of MFR have regrouped with the exception of the guitarist and are undergoing “thorough band rehearsals”.
The source disclosed that the team can be heard at their music house almost every night.
MFR arrived on the music scene with a bang about three years ago but they have not been seen or heard since the end of last year’s carnival season.
Rumors began circulating that they were separated over a major dispute between the proprietors and the band members, which halted the operations of the band.
“This year appears to be one of interest once the reality of their return is revealed. Their music, style, energy, rhythms, diversity and joy that they presented was impacted on Dominica music, specifically Bouyon music, one that is truly missed by their fans,” the source said.
The group is planning to host a press conference soon to reveal their new name, materials and season agenda.
“Expect the unexpected,” the source added.

what the individual is trying to do is to correct the statement by saying that MFR, is the name of a BAND, not the individual members, if one member start dissing other bands, it does not mean it’s the BAND itself, just as a church is not the building but in fact the congregation, vice versa applies to this band. and furthermore, MFR is no longer in business hence it cannot be MFR who is making the comments, but the members as separate individuals, and the person who gave this HEADLINE that topic, I should say better be careful, MFR is a copyrighted name, using it without permission could get some people paying some heavy fines
thank god for those to pitbulls money hungry men , today the core members of Mfr , has their own stuff. No longer will they have to be treated like dogs and be subjected two an unhealthy environment filled with cat shit which was called a band house. Finally they toiled relentlessly and purchase their own stuff with their hard earned cash. No longer are the pitbulls on leash. As a fan i felt sorry for those guys and what amazed me most, is that thru all that unpleasentness and deceitful management and fanancial keepers, they were able to overcome and become a significant icon in the contribution of the musical development of our country. Yes to “the oracle” I may not know much, but I do know as much as to tell you this… I have been to the MFR band house and I’ve never been subjected to any unhealthy environment, and as I can recall the core reason why the MFR band broke up, was because of the demands that the band members had which the owner could not meet, due to it’s ridiculous nature, which I happen to have a copy of, if you do not want me to post it on Dominica news online to let the world really see what was taking place with this band!, it makes no sense to blame the owners for you guys inconsiderate behaviours, and might I add, compared to any other band in Dominica, MFR members were paid the highest, and YET, you guys still demanded a raise, and transportation for the band members from their houses to the band house which was, oh my gosh I cannot even find a word to describe… tell me, if you working in Roseau for the ministry of education, as an example and you come all the way from Penville… SKerrit does pay your transportation for you to reach there? Eh… and where have you ever heard a band owner getting PERSONAL visas for their band members as if they are family members, as far as I know, it’s the organisers of the events who have to organise such documents at least one year prior to the event….. boy if you know what good for you, you better just keep quiet, no sense lie, the world’s going to end soon, and God is watching your actions, you best ask forgiveness…..

We have seen alll this already,WCK,TRIPLE KAY,MFR,same band,they all sound alike,most times I cannot tell the difference.The music is not international,because it is only geared to the Dominican public which is not large enough to give the guys a good steady income.
We need to improve on what we have because the Vincys,Trinis,Bajans and many others are stealing our product,improving on it and call it theirs.Let is remeber Shorty from Trinidad that stole or Cadence took it to Trinidad and called it SOCA.

Number 1 drummer on the island: KD! Now unlike these other bands, MFR has actual musicians who can cover a wide range. They started off on top but i think they lost themselves somewhere along the line. MFR was the one band that came out and made me actually enjoy bouyon music. I mean nuff respect to WCK the real pioneers….but that was CK of back then and not the crap they have now. MFR has the potential to make it big and I have high hope for this band. Respect to the north, we’ve been underrated for too long

Sighhhh….well lets just hope all these bands come out with a product that can go regional. Cause playing for 300 Dominicans in NY, or 250 in MIA, or 30 in ATL ain’t gonna put nothing in allu pocket. Our music need to attract a regional crowd. It’s all good being a local celeb, but in the long run what good is it? The name “MFR” is unique and those guys really tried coming out hard and they did! We need more competition in Dominica music. From day one The First Serenade Band gave WCK competition! WCK was creative and all but Serenade had that cutting edge renegade style of rough, don’t give a dam music! Very much like MFR. I wish they didn’t have to change their name! But seriously when those guys return I want them to try each time to be better and play better and come out harder! Always out do themselves each album. Triple K for some years has become comfortable and has not cared about how their album sounds. The lead vocalist has to really take care of his voice or he will lose his money maker! I emplore that the new MFR lead vocalist really take care of his voice!! People still love a good sounding lead vocalist!! WCK sorry to say have to playing field anymore! Not that they musicians don’t have talent but too many elements of sound are left out! I grew up on WCK but WCK then and now is very much not the same and has not gotten any better in terms of producing their past mega hits!

How much money those band member getting.
Start by being professional musician.
Go learn to read and write music.
So you all can market your product.
Make music that everyone can understand not just Dominicans.
I agree. The bouyon music is just rediculous. Is it just me? Cause the vocalists are cannot hold a note; Particullarly the Triple K Band vocalists. Is that the trend that instead of singing in harmony the 3- 4 vocalist are just upfront gargling. There is no coordination at all – no musicianship; no stage presentation.
In order for this Bouyon music to get some recognition the individual musicians must seek to broaden their musical knowledge and skills. They could start by listening to alternate music. For a quick start I would advice that they listen to Kassav for example. Go back to the albums made in the 80’s.I suggest Kassav for starters because of the uptempo.The music and arrangement in Kassav’s music is testemony of the individual musicianship therein. One of the most incredible horns section I’ve heard and seen.
That said our bands need to start looking at introducing horn sections. The idea of the key board replacing the horns is not just impossible but not good for show biz. Our band will remain short term because the musicians cannot move from the bouyon to any other genre of music therefore the band are really carnival and once in a while siwo band. Once carnival is over (maybe Labor day in NY if given the opportunity) those bands go into hybernation.
At one point Dominica lead the way in musical talent and production so much so that Trinidadians came down and copied our musical flavor and created soca music. decimus and Pierre of Kassav modeled the zouke from our music when bands like exile , grammacks , Milestones and all the other D/can bands stormed Gaudeloupe and Martinique and even Paris.
I cant pe proud of the bulk of music coming from DA. People tell me it’s the time and Bouyon is the music of the teeenagers. My response is well music is a profession and aband is a buisness venture. Need I say more?

Remember good things do not last forever. I just waiting for the next big upset to happen in ck and we all know where triple kay is heading! You see them on stage but them so called fans don’t know what is going on behind the scenes. Sad Situation. Even though you have 10, 20 years under your belt it doesn’t mean you cannot crash. Remember the current members were not all there for 20+ years. Keith is the only “original” member currently in the band! Triple Kay is just riddim. I mean how all the original members can just leave nah.

I really had a lot of hope in MFR and saw them as being poised to be the next best musical export. They had something rather mythic about them. including the following:
. they were creative
. had great stage command
. dressed appropriately
. had a unique melodic approach, their use of the sine wave synthesizer tone as a background foundation was rather riveting.
. they employed driving and bouncy percussive rhythm
. the use on the intermittent toms fills were also refreshing
. the guitar interplay was significant, this was lacking in other bouyon bands.
. their vocals were clear and harmonies tight.
I am rather ecstatic that they found their way back on track, I would advise them that they should get a guitarist to play like their former one or similar since that was part of the secret formula of their unique sound.
To the commentators out there, lets not make that a turf war, we have to embrace ALL our bands lets stop this petty tribalism, which have deterred our bouyon music for so long.

you may be making a good point but the most currupted music at present is dancehall music and it is international and is listened to and sang by those kids and their paresnts dont complain. they also play songs like that of sparrow and no one complains., listen to the songs you mentioned for MFR and tell me the rude lines.?

let’s hope that they have something fresh. Harmonious melodies, good lyrics and nothing like what Tripple Kay and the other bouyon bands (which makes it hard to differentiate one from the other) produce in one five letter word N O I S E.

Definitely too many members. Look at a band like Fanatik: a drummer, keyboardist, rhythm guitarist, bassist, lead singer and an engineer. With those 6 members, Fanatik sound is full, rich, clear and imposing. Their one fault (or not) is that they lack their own songs…
With 9 members or Triple Kay’s 10, do they sound significantly better than Fanatik?!
