US-based Dominican musician to release CD

Brian "Rocket" Rock

Solo artist, singer, songwriter and bassist from Dominica Brian “Rocket” Rock is set to to launch a new CD.

The talented multi-instrumentalist has named the CD ‘Hang in there’ and it is expected to be launched in May, according to the artiste’s Facebook page.

The CD is heavily influenced by Aswad, Third World, Steel Pulse and Bob Marley which is evidenced in the heavy bass lines and drums, horns and harmonies.

The artiste promises to have listeners of the CD ‘singing, dancing and humming along to the Reggae and Caribbean beats.’

“Rocket” emerged on the US reggae scene in the ’70’s as a bassist and vocalist for the New York based band, Moja Nya. After Moja Nya, he has been fronting the very popular Chicago based band, Gizzae for the last 20 years.

His expertise has given him the opportunity to work with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones, Judy Mowatt, Culture, among others.

“Rocket” grew up in Roseau where at a very early age he began playing on any instrument he could lay his hands on. He moved to the United States in the early ’70’s where he joined Moja Nya.

He is quoted as saying, ““I am at peace when I’m performing. Music is in my blood – There’s no way for I to stop it from flowing.”

Dominica News Online will follow developments on the release of the CD and will publish information as it becomes available.

    8)
Very unique sound, Brian. This brings back memories of the “Four Corners” song and “National Dread Anthem” song released by “Swingin’ Stars”
in the late 70’s. I am now looking at Brian’s photo on the album. He was like a Justin Beiber among the older members.

We hope to see “Gizzae” at the World Creole Music Festival. That current CD,”We Can Win” by Brian promises to be a winner.

He is the best and so, so humble. Always has an encouraging word and congrats to his fellow Musicians. Brian has been around for a long time and those of you who remember, he also sang with Swinging stars of Dominica, lead singer at a very young age (17yrs). Brian, his brother, Cedric Rock and friends like Julie Mourilon, Vivian Wallace and a few others were members of band called Wooden Stools. We would stay all day at his parent’s home, jamming all day. The good old days.

Happy to see you doing good my friend. Keep it up. I am looking forward to getting a CD.

That is if the WCMF commity gives him a chance to, from what I see they prefer to give all the money to outside artist like Morgan Heritage, Sean Paul. Marshall Montana etc.rather than give to their own Musicians from DA. At one point I enjoyed the WCMF, but now I think its pure. The organizer need to do better or get rid of them. The line up is horrible. I know people who used to come from other island who came for the french (creole)music especially and when you get there after paying all this money, you have to sit and listen to Marshall Montana. They decided not to come back. In the days of Eddie Toulon, that was a Creole festival, didn’t mind some reggae and local bands, but now it is hopeless. St lucians , Guadeloupeans and Martiniquans, who were the main patronisers, we hardly see them anymore. We need to re vamp this thing.

Rockets my brother you done know how it go, always a pleasure to hear you.
i have been saying it and i will say lt again, we have enough international artist from DA out there that need to showcase their talent on Dominica’s big stage WCMF, and it would cost less.
Bring home the prodigal sons in music to grace the land.
    Big UPS Brian; nice work.
