Venezuelan folklore group performs in Dominica

El Comejen de la Bandola

For the last four days, from Friday October 7th to the 10th, Venezuelan folklore group “El Comejen de la Bandola” (The Termite of the Bandola), has been in Roseau, undertaking various cultural – educational activities as part of the cooperation exchange between Venezuela and Dominica, thanks to the support received from the Ministry of People Power for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Peoples Power for Culture of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Fort Young Hotel and DBS Radio.

This group made by Segundo Garcia, known as “El Comejen de la Bandola’ (The Termite of the Bandola), vocalist and Venezuelan traditional dance expert Yusnellys Rengifo, Jose Funes in the Cuatro, Professor Gailabi Jimenez in the base guitar and Alejandro Galindo in the maracas.

The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Dominica in a joint effort with the Fort Young Hotel organized a special event on Friday night during the Happy Hour, where the guests also had the opportunity to enjoy Venezuelan dishes by Venezuelan Chef Alonso Nuñez.

All day Saturday they hosted Cuatro and dance workshops at the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation which continued on Monday.

On Sunday evening, with the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Nicholas Liverpool and Mrs. Liverpool, they gave a concert where a great number of people were able to appreciate the variety and diversity of the music of Venezuela’s plains, during this concert they shared the stage with the Cuatro Group from the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation, made of young Dominicans, led by Mr. Tyson Johnson.

On Monday the Fort Young Hotel once again presented this Venezuelan group which played several songs with Phase Five Steel Band.

The Venezuelan group has expressed its enthusiasm and admiration for the high level of Dominican musicians, acknowledged from exchange during presentations and the workshops held.
