Discover Dominica Authority’s promotional campaign of the 14th World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) is making strides, as the marking team will soon team up with E- Dominica Promotions in New York to present the event  through the press in the honored presence of the Mayor of New York and other dignitaries.

Campaign head Leroy ‘Wadix’ Charles announced this in a recent interview. He says the promotional activities thus far are advancing and public reception is notable.

The meeting with the New York press is scheduled for next Thursday at the Tropical Paradise Ball Room in Brooklyn New York. E-Dominica Promotions head –Ann Marie Clarke is coordinating the event.

“Invited are the mayor of New York, His Excellency ambassador to the UN [United Nations] Vince Henderson (former Dominica government minister) and the consulate, media representatives and music promoters from New York and the Caribbean,” Charles said.

The recent King of Kings Calypso Show featuring Dominican calypsonians residing here and in the US was successful. Charles  recounts a “strong” crowd presence last Saturday.

“We were able to have a banner on stage and being the host master of ceremonies I was able to sensitize patrons on this year’s festival,” he added.

In keeping with his schedule, for the September 6 Labour Day parade, Charles says he will take that opportunity to hand out fliers through the streets of the ‘Big Apple’.

Meanwhile, the Dominica Festival Committee (DFC) has commenced its weekly sensitization campaign here on the island.

On Wednesday DFC Chairman Colin Piper announced that all was on schedule for the event. He said artistes were booked and signed and accommodations secured.

He also said that, “sound, stage, lighting, backline and roof will be finalized this week with deposits paid in order to secure the necessary services,”

Hurray! Good to know that things are going as planned for the wcmf and the organisers. Just want Dominicans to demand from the organisers the accounts after the festival. I think its only in Dominica the people are denied information of this sort. Let the people know how much profit is realised from the variuous activities. U know what- whenever the tax payers money is involved the people should get regular reports. Uptil now there is nothing we can boast of an say well well- This building or the youth center was constructed as a result of WCMF. Not even a lil bus stop to say the least. Dominicans got to be more demanding andd forceful if not they will just be taken for more and more rides while things get harder and harder every year!
Its is the constitutional right of every Dominican to know whats the financial status of the wcmf. Set my People Freeee.

well good for WCMF, but there is a new developement on the imigration scene and i am wondering if WCMF is targetting one set of people.
i say this because i lately the imigration have been refusing HAITIANS LIVING IN MARTINQUE, travellilng on FRENCH PAPERS, from entering dominica, they are being told they have to have a visa. And funny enough, i had this friend who came to dominica for the first time in february of this year for a weekend, and found he loved the place and said he would come back, this week the same man was refused entry into dominica on the same papers he used in february, and was told he had to have a visa, but french born, french paper carriers, don’t need a visa, so why is it that haitian born french paper carriers needs a visa. what that have to do with WCMF, there a lots of them that are coming to dominica for the event.with the way things are, they can’t come, but i guess, we don’t need haitian EURO,it is really strange. They leave martinique go to guadeloupe and wants to stop over here in dominica using their french papers, the same ones they use to go to st. martin, without visa, and we tell them because u are haitian born u need a visa.

What a fiasco and big hype We in Ny never heard of this.We in Ny have never rcvd a letter from Vince office. We recvd a letter from Barbara when she first arrived, nothing after that. Who are these people representing .The mayor will not attend and maybe promoters promoting their gigs for Labor Day will be there. Notice Dominicans here were not invited at this so called press conferece. Only the usual diehards will be down for WCF.This thing is a joke and Dominicans should know the truth. Just a suggestion Contact the various Groups up here namely Darda., Codia they all have mailing list ,You have groups in NJ, Connecticut, Boston .Do networking No more advice….By the way you wont see them again,Can they afford to come down? These people are not ready.Do your homework this year find where thes people are coming from through our imigratin e.g 200 fro St Luciia 20 fom Ny Make an assessment then you have an attack strategy.for the future.Wadix cannot do it alone you need a team of Strategists and marketing people to do that job if you want this to be world class.

can someone tell me what the DDA really expects to achieve from this promotion? More attendees? well what are the number of attendees from the tri -state area, are there packages to entice potential visitors? what about the high cost of airfares, lack of accommodation? Should that money be better spent in the French Islands and islands close to Dominica where the return on the investment would be a lot higher?

This is an activity simply to satisfy a report – that a promotional event of no value or effect was undertaken in the US.

    Wake up DDA!!!!
