“Woman Can Lie” heads to Grenada

woman can lie‘Woman Can Lie’ is “arguable Dominica’s most anticipated theatrical production of the last decade”, that’s according to the Sun News Paper.

Woman Can Lie exposes questionable dealings of selected females, in the case of the play, a character named BETH, who choose to deceive men and cheat her way around several relationships. The play examines the crimes of infidelity carried out in covert, but painful ways by women to unsuspecting men, a character named RUDY in that case. The intention of the play is to place attention on one of the ills of society perpetuated by women of a special ilk; it is expected to be an eye opener.

The lead role, a character named BETH, a female in her 30’s, is played by Rashida Gachette, Dominica’s leading Actress.  Rashida has well over 30 years in the arts.  Mickael Ferrol, Dominica’s most versatile cultural practitioner and famed dramatist is down to play BETH’s trusted boyfriend RUDY. The exciting student actress, 13 year old Selena Cuffy plays RHONDA, a female in her 20’s who is BETH’s distant relative.  FEFE, a female in her 40’s (Beth’s best friend) is played by Lisa Philbert. Giselle Gabriel, a full of life Caribbean woman, plays OCTAVIA, a self righteous woman in her 30’s.  The veteran Emile Serrant plays PASTOR MOORE, a ‘Pastor’ in his 50’s. Serrant is a well known Caribbean Community organizer, based in Florida, and is an absolutely funny personality. Alex Bruno serves as the group’s Writer/Artistic Director.

‘Woman Can Lie’ which is billed, ‘Ridiculously Ridiculous, Outrageously Outrageous’, is rated among the most hilarious Caribbean plays in recent times. The group promises a night of laughter like no other…guaranteed! The play is written in two scenes and 13 acts, and runs for 105 minutes with a 20 minutes intermission between scenes.

The group which began in Florida U.S.A., performed its first play ‘As you were’ in Hollywood, Fl. on May 25, 2001. So far the group has produced a total of sixteen (16) plays, including ‘Woman Can Lie’.

The Grenada showing is being staged by Spice Basket in conjunction with One Caribbean Culture on Saturday April 27, 2013 at Spice Basket from 8:00 p.m. Contact Hugh Dollan: (473) 407 – 2765 for information. Tickets cost $35.00 in advance and are available at Spice Basket and all Gittens Outlets

I want to see the presentation on the Maroon chief Jacko/Jako again. This is important especially in its Historical correctness Debate. I think that the input of DR.Lenox H will be useful.
The use of white people to put posters around our posts in Dominica during our 2009 Elections and depicting black people in chains behind bars is instructive…waw an attempt at recolonization of Dominica via political expediency.
However I must congratulate this group for its efforts at pushing our culture. I wish wish them all the best. It is indeed a very talented Act and thought-provoking and they must tour the Caribbean especially Jamaica, Antigua, Barbados, Trinidad, St martin , VI’s etc.
