With the release of his latest single, titled “Can’t Be Friends”, budding artiste Colton ‘ColtonT’ Thomas, appears primed to secure his place as a local fixture in the music scene.
The 19-year-old, dancehall/reggae singer, who has been performing professionally since he was 15, said that although he started out singing R&B and rapping Hip-hop, he gravitated towards dancehall and reggae because he saw more of an opportunity for a place in the local market and he felt that his voice lent itself better to the genre.
While billing himself as a free-style artiste Thomas is currently dedicated to branding himself as one of the premier young artistes in his genre in Dominica and the neighboring French isles.
Thomas said, “Right now it’s more about building my brand and letting Dominica know what my vibe is all about. I first promoted a mix-tape and it did OK but for now I’ve decided to just release the singles and really build the brand. I just want people to see me for who I really am and trying to remain in the market and keep doing what I’ve been doing, because I do music exclusively.”
He continued, “God is my inspiration and after that, it’s the people, because it’s about life and we have to speak about the reality of it all. There are so many topics that you can cover, sex, religion, politics and you cannot be shy to speak about the reality,” he laughs. “And I am already talking about it but there’s more to come.”
For his latest project, Thomas collaborated with Khalil ‘Khalihi’ Esprit, a 24 year old artiste from the village of Campbell, a combination that they are intent on keeping strong as they each move forward as young musicians.
Khalihi, however, made it clear, “We’ll always be doing our collabs, but we are still individual artistes.”
Both though, are about one thing for certain, the growth of music in Dominica and the rise of their brands, individual and collective, to a level of regional recognition and perhaps, one day, global.
Keep doing you thing boy. I am a fan. There are gonna be hater, but just think of all the positive people in your life and disregard the negativity. Much love and respect to the both of you.

Congratulations to Colton and Khalihi for the good effort. They have a nice catchy hook and a professionally done video; two keys elements of commercial success in today’s popular music.
To be honest, what they’ve done with this one video is a lot more than most of our seasoned artists have done after 5-15 years of being in the industry.
To the Dominican haters… Smh.
Look out for more from Colton T and other local artists. It is time we Dominicans showcase AND support the large pool of exceptional talent that is our own.
Dominicans on a whole dont appreciate young and up coming talent its a known fact they would prefer to see some one come from overseas thats just how it is and if Colton feels that he is better received in Gwada that is wat it is i understand where he coming from

“cant be friends” the video is sick, it look top class rubbing shoulders with the best of the best. but a little more focus on the lyrics would help ur product go a longer way. great start though, keep moving forward. this local artist YAz JaMAWI is has gr8 lyrics, i like this song .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0tHfAFz7yw&feature=related
This Local Artist is Mad Nice with his lyrics, Check this video out … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0tHfAFz7yw&feature=related
I knew Colton in his earlier teens playing football. Surprised by his other talent. Congratulations, wish you all the best.
Just had a view of the video and i even identified my niece in it.This what some of u who are commenting as good,it’s pure shit,no lyrics and as for the music it’s no music.I don’t know why my niece find herself involved in this form of pornographic video?I’ll surely tell her off when we meet, the youts of today need to read good material and listen to good music from the likes of Chubby and Nasio so they can be able to compose properly and stop all this sexuality in the music.
i agree with you. All you can have that as a hovvy but go and read a damn book. EDUCATION is the KEY these days. All you just in a music. Ofcourse the one on the left believe he better thank everybody. ON FACEBOOK YOU CLAIM YOUR DREAM IS TO BE A VETERINARIAN THEN PURSUE THAT DREAM!!!
*HOBBY

helloo but ur good music and our generation good music is way different…so u cant expect music now to have the same vybes from when u were growing up. the world is changing as well as music styles and ways..i’m not saying that chubby and nasio arent good at all…and dont call it pure shit, say its satisfactory or something like that.atleast these young guys arent on the streets or in trouble…appreciate your own people DAMN IT !!! I LOVE THE VIDEO AND THE MUSIC KEEP IT UP MI SEH..
Blessingz going out to the young brothers doing a big thing…performed along-side Kalihi n the boy got skills…keep it up bro’s n never forget your roots on this journey,..be blessed
dominica has alot of mixed cultures. we welcome jamaican artists and their music. y try to bring down a young man doing the kind of music he is exposed to. how many dominican artists have made it to main stream? dominica does not have the market to sustain its talent. so i understand y artists have to try to reach out to other markets before making it here. so please try not to bring him down because u find he acts like a jamaican artist. jamaica and their music can sustain him better that we here can. u r a young padna doing ur thing. and u have my total support. good luck to the both of u. just dont lose the dominican in u. dont forget where u come from no matter how far u reach and u’ll be a force to reckon with
I feel so proud…young people doing big things, keep it up and all the best. I just wish the video was made in DA, the most beautiful place in the world!!!
hmm…well Colton, I see you are making it big! I remember you lil boy Goodwill going school and scene. Its wonderful to see that one of the youngsters are doing great things for themselves. Keep it up dude. Love the song. All the best!!! N Khalihi..always saw you at DSC but now I see you were a hidden talent now found. All the best to you too!
Great going guys!!!
I am so proud of ColtonT. Positive young man, as usual, we’re being typical Dominicans and being crabs in a barrel…Let’s help these young men shine and rise and be positive. Continue doing the good work…Mi say GtWagwanE….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp8ElEZlHMg here’s the link to the video
am really proud of khalili aka flick boi u got big from the last time i can remember u
People are going to talk colton, some are going to hate you , but at the end of the day you can’t please every one , so just hold the meds and do what you have to cause a perfect world would not have anything to talk about and who ever have a problem with how you do your stuff i think they should stop talking and go do better you are human and subjected to flaws so just keep up the good work loving the music and know that the lord is on you side. peace
Keep Aiming High Folks..
Kindly stay away from the Boyou Music, as you surely wont attract any Major Producers or Major Record Labels..
Just a advise from a insider in the showbiz field!!
listend to d track it was ite .. da video was really well done real professional .. keep it up broda.. waitin on u nex single
Do your thing my young brudder. Reach for the stars and make us proud.
colton needs to learn and understand he is not from Jamaica…you go khalil
@ Anonymous give the brother a break u all ready start with ur negtive comments
So what if he was not born in Jamaica.
There are many reggae artistes not born in JA (Ali Campbell/UB40, born and bred in the Midlands, UK appearing at this years Creole Festival for one). Music is for everyone.
Encourage not bring down someone else who is at least trying.
Go for it ‘Colton T’ (and ‘Khalihi’) show the doubters, and when you are famous, they’ll brag that they know you.
OMG u people are backward, the guyis doing what that can sell and the truth is he is alot better than most jamaicans——so u going to tell daddy chess he not from trini or Antigua with his soca oh please backward people—go colty u badddddddddddddddddd
they surely aiminh high they both high lol
They cute…..:)
Well Done Colty and crew. Keep it up and do not give up. U use to play a good football and I know that u will do even better with ur music.
i dont want to sound like no hater but colton must never forget his pple and never forget where he camefrom. i heard a personal convo with colton one time and the way he sounded is like dominicans dont appreciate his music thats y he prefer go to gudeloupe and do his videos and so on. i think he needs to take it a bit slow and everything will fall into place but besides that fact he is doing a great job. remember to promote dominica in all u do.
i agree with you
good to see my brothers doing positive things. it give me hope. it gives the world hope. big up
