Dominica to host international conference in September

The Development Institute of Dominica is making preparations to host an international green investment conference here in September 2010.

And to this end, a dialogue is being planned to take place at the Sutton Place Hotel on Wednesday.

Its aim is to provide details of the program and additional background information on the Green Investment Dialogue scheduled for Thursday, February 25 at the Conference Room of the National Development Foundation of Dominica on Great Marlborough Street, Roseau.

Under the theme “Shaping an Agenda for Building a Green Island Economy: Moving from Knowledge to Action” , the dialogue for February 25 is arranged to permit a cross-section of stakeholders to become involved in shaping the agenda that will be pursued at the September conference.

Participants will be invited to focus on issues of policy, funding, technology, administration and human resources among others that can facilitate and accelerate the growth of a vibrant green economy capable of meeting sustainable social, economic and environmental objectives.

“Some may see the global economic crisis as a reason for postponing the hard decisions that have to be made about a strategy for  confronting the effects of climate change and as a result may even fail to see the many investment and development opportunities that are presented by these combined crises.

“For vulnerable small islands like Dominica, it is clear that for every year we postpone acceptance of the direct links between issues of climate change and social and economic change, the less likely we are to see that combating climate change makes good social and economic sense,” according to a press release.

This Green Investment Conference planned for September will make the links clear by bringing together practitioners of green business in Dominica with their counterparts from other countries to establish knowledge-based business partnerships that result in commercial investments that green the Dominican economy, the press release states.
