Geothermal test flow “incident free” – Project Officer

Geothermal testing in the Roseau Valley
Geothermal testing in the Roseau Valley

After a five day flow test in the Roseau Valley, local authorities are assuring residents that the tests were as predicted-incident free, and again give the reassurance that there is no need for panic.

The first phase of the test which was recently conducted at a geothermal production well has been described as incident free.

“As we expected it would have been incident free,” Project Officer of the geothermal unit Alexis George said in an interview with state-owned DBS.

The test was done on Tuesday June 10 2014 and involved the release of gas caps into the air to test their generation capacity.

This caused some unease among residents in the usually quiet community of Laudat and some homes which were within close proximity of the site, were evacuated for one day, during the critical stages of the test.

“We would just like them to be reassured that we intend to continue as we have done and ensure that it is a safe operation and they should not have anything to be concerned about,” George stated.

He explained that the consultants will prepare a final report “and we will have an idea what is the generating capacity of that well and that will also allow us and give us the necessary information for the design and what kind of plans they use and how we move forward with development,” he said.

The island’s geothermal energy has been called a national priority for Dominica by prime minister and minister for finance, Roosevelt Skerrit. He has stated that electricity generated from geothermal sources will lower the cost of energy.

Government has invested over $54 million in exploring the island’s geothermal potential.

Good news and hope that they continue to take all the safety precautions with this new venture and do not become complacent as safety is a priority and throughout the completing of the project and once it it is established!

Parry, I would advise the Prime Minister, to remove the residence of the valley closest to the Geothermal Project and relocate them to another area. Should their be a disaster in the area, their is one road in, one road out.

Check all the pollution in the air, Dominica you are no longer the nature isle of the Caribbean, streams and rivers are already drying and disappearing, them people in Iceland after years are suffering with asthma and all other illness due to geothermal plant, and they are all over the place protecting, this is all about money and to hell with people’s health and well being

There is no way electricity bill will be lower, this is nothing time will tell

I have stated in my previous comments on that subject that once geothermal energy is harnessed with safety first, no harm to the environment and property, it will be the best prospect for our economy to grow. It’s a win-win for the country.

It’s indeed a good feeling for those concerned citizens to be assured that all is going to be just fine after the “incident free” test flow. The time is now for our people to remain cool, calm and collective with a positive attitude while progress is taking place on the project. Also we must continue to pray for the safety of all while the exploration is in progress.

LOUGAOO Men you are so easily fooled ! I now fully agree with the Kalinagos lets change the name of the island from Domi -in-cans to Witikubuli or Kalingo Island. because I cant believe we as a people can be taken for such rides one after the other. First it was hydro going to solve all our problems but thank God hydro although it cost us 60 million USD plus a law suit from the French company makes a difference in that if we were solely depemded on fossil fuel we would be taking loans to pay our light bill. so lets say we survived hydro – but then came P ETRO CARIBE – which we were told would reduce our light bill significantly – well the rest is history unless LOUGAOO Men can prove differently; so if hydro did not do it for us and PETRO CARIBE haven’t delivered what makes us believe geothermal will? remember we are at 54 million dollars in investment going ; we have yet to be able to determine the viability of the resource – we haven’t even started talking about the type of generating plant and its capacity which may cost another set of millions ; we haven’t even started to factor in the opportunity cost – like the giving up of our social assets and tourism assets; the nature island marketability- the millions invested in the promo as a UNESCO World Heritage Site ; we haven’t even started talking about land compensation issues; legal issues; relocation issues for residents the economic and social impact ; the environmental and echo system impactt; the impact to the water catchment and water resource[ the infrastructural investments to include roads; and other investments to include mitigation both hard and soft measure including contingency for emergencies but Parry and LOUGAOO Men there talking as if thats the best thing after swiss cheese – what empty vessels and men without backbone; boss you and Parry are the same – you all will more witness cook grow teeth than electricity bill go down in Dominica in a hurry – dream on still ; but if you and Parry are convince of your facts then please give us a time frame when we should anticipate a reduction in light bill and an industrial take -off or rush in as a ressult of low electricity rates ; please tell us Parry please!

A national priority, Skeritt must be kidding. Dominicans were glued to their radios. Dominicans were given free wi-fi, the world saw the St. Joseph rally on the internet. He announced that their were approximately twenty thousand supporters in St. Joseph. It was blows like old clothes on Mr. Lennox Linton, political leader of UWP Team Dominica. Miss Monell, UWP’s candidate for the St. Joseph constituency eating habits as regards to cow meat were mentioned. After all were said and done at St, Joseph, not once, not a minute, did Skeritt ever mentioned the word Geothermal, far less, make any reference as regards to the Geothermal project, that is priority.

“As we expected it would have been incident free,” Project Officer of the geothermal unit Alexis George said in an interview with state-owned DBS.”

I personally would be elated if only I know Ambrose was an Geothermal Engineer. However, since I was informed that this guy may have studied geology, and not geothermal engineering, I think there is an accident waiting to happen in the Roseau Valley!

How can someone who is not an geothermal engineer, undertake the development of a geothermal energy plant. For that to be successful, this guy would have to be an electrical engineer, in addition to been an geothermal engineer. He would also need to have knowledge of Turbines, and every scientific knowledge required to develop that sort of project.

The whole thing is nothing more than a joke; that is something planed to impress Dominicans that the government is doing something, after election if the Labor Party wins, the project will be abandoned. We wonder why the partners they said was involved financially, pulled out more than a year ago. I suspect they found out that the people involved in the development, has no engineering knowledge, nor scientific skills to build an geothermal plant.

Only time will tell, the joke is on the government, and not the people. It is laughable that a government gives a job to someone who finished school less than two years ago, who’s major might be geology, has no training in geothermal energy, yet a government gives this no knowledge of geothermal energy the responsibility of building an geothermal energy plant, for no other I suspect, but because his father is in government, and he is pulling on the party line; just another poppet!

This tome is ridiculous, and absurd!

Mr George is a project officer as stated in the report who as such acts as a representative for the government in the development of the project. He does not engineer, design or control the functions and responsibilities of the contracted consultants. Be assured that this act of nepotism that led to his employment does not endanger the process of harnessing geothermal energy for he takes orders and receives information from the international group that oversees the project.

“Mr George is a project officer as stated in the report who as such acts as a representative for the government in the development of the project”

Anybody holding that position, wether he is representing the government or the devil in hell, should have an background in Geothermal Engineering okay!

In that case the test he claims was successful to my mind suspect. If you have no knowledge of what you are dealing with, that means you have to believe anything that is told to you by someone, and you cannot ask any question, since you do not know!

My question to you and the Labor Party, is what is the name of the Geothermal Energy Engineering firm they have retained to conduct the installation of this plant? I am an Electrical/Electronic Engineer by profession, when I was I worked in the Electronic industry, and military electronics for that matter, I had junior engineers, and electronic technicians under my supervision.

If someone ran a test on something and it failed, and they call me, I had to go and sit at the test station and figure out what cause the system or sub-system that was tested to fail. I would have to review the schematics, and mill-spec to see what was wrong, if its a design error, or what; I had to resolve the problem. If the problem was beyond me, I would bring in a heavy weight with more knowledge than I have, in the event the guy over me failed, then we usually call in one of the military engineers to resolve the problem.

So, for you to believe he is simply a go between production and government, his position does not even make sense. He is getting paid for doing nothing, and that is because Ambrose George is his father!

If that is the way it is going that plant will never get built! Give me the name of a Geothermal Engineering Firm, by doing so one may become convince that maybe they will be successful.

Why are you always making a fool of yourself criticizing without understanding. The great Thinker and Scientist Albert Einstein once said, quote “Any fool can know. The point is to understand.” and there lies your problem.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        June 18, 2014

Gary, there is nothing for anybody to understand. That fact is Ambrose has no knowledge; relating to Geothermal Energy, and the installation of such a plant and the technology involved, what else is there to understand?

The study of geology, and Geothermal Engineering, are totally to different things. If he is the chief cook, and server, janitor and all his project is domed to failure! In this case when you feel the need to insult me, I would appreciate in the process you name an Geothermal Energy Engineering Firm, involved in testing drilling, and the construction of this so called geothermal energy plant.

If you can do that; I will allow you to insult me as much as you wish!

        Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Unless you can name the Geothermal Engineering Firm involved, I suggest you invert the your Albert Einstein theory, and let it relate to your lack of commonsense, or knowledge of the crap that is going on in Dominica right now. I suppose you are one of them getting ready to sell electricity to Guadeloupe, France, and Martinique right?

Yea, right, you will wait long enough to see that never happens: it will never happen; say I told you so, that’s another dangling carrot to attract votes, and you are caught wallowing in this myth, corrupted with all sorts of fallacies!

Have a nice day you half blind kid you singing for your supper oui!: (You doh have more insults in your arsenal than this Wesley boy here)!

It is said you never know your potential till you dig deep inside to find it well we doing it figuratively and literally we digging deep.
