Sea creature at Purple Turtle a pilot whale

An official from the fisheries division has identified the sea creature that washed ashore at Purple Turtle yesterday as a Pilot Whale.

The incident is believed to be the result of the whale having been left stranded and the official said that this type of behavior is not unusual for cetaceans (sea mammals) in this situation.

The official, who did not want to be identified for this story, also said that there was no evidence to suggest that the animal was sick or that it had been struck by a boat or other marine craft, as no markings were found on it’s body that would indicate such. This was said in an attempt to quell all speculation that there may have been some other reason why the animal came ashore.

“These animals tend to do that, cetaceans are like that. There have been a number of these types of incidents in recent history. When they are alive we try to push them back but even when we do that, sometimes they come back onto the shore. Usually when they want to die, they do that,” the official said.

He continued, “The important thing that we want people to know is that the animal has been removed from the beach and buried by the Environmental Health Department. I want to commend the work of the Environmental Health Department for their speedy work on this incident.”

I reall think that Dominicans should read loads more than they do. You have the Internet, use it! Foolish comment over whales that do these things everyday. If they want to die they come ashore. They normally do it in bulk. Luckily it was only one and not twenty. It whales feel hurrt, if they got lost, if one wants to die others follow t to die with it ir they get beached. It is common knowledge. Very common knowledge. Dominica is a fishing nation, we should have that knowledge

You are obviously very arrogant; You create the impression that you are a habitual reader yet your level of discourse is no better than that which you criticize.
A barrage of insults and derision does not automatically put you ahead in a discussion and if you want to demonstrate your expertise show respect to ALL.
As a matter of fact Dominica does not fit the mold of a “Fishing Nation.” A nation that is heavily or primarily dependent on the fishing industry is considered a “fishing nation.” Dominica does not perform culturing, processing, preserving, storing, transporting, marketing or selling fish or fish products. It would be prudent to think before we assume authority or knowledge on matters that are really not our “cup of tea.”

That sea creature conveniently chose Porssie so it could die and rest in peace. Had this creature decided to run ashore in Marigot – Oh boy Marigot people would have a feast –they would ha yam this creature. They would be selling that by the pound too.

You would have been the first one on line to buy. Marigot people are well fed people.

Don’t take this so personal my friend – just ask around and you ‘ll be sure to find out that every time a whale was found dead on the sea shores in Marigot let’s just say that the meat was never wasted or buried. Lighten up my friend it’s all humor; not meant to be offensive

If the official is from the fisheries division and knows what he/she is talking about then why the hidden identity. Sounds fishy to me.

I am here thinking the same thing. What is there to hide from? Can no one speak from an official capacity anymore? Even about such a non-political, non-violent story. I just don’t get it.

      August 19, 2011

You all don’t know whales commit suicide? You all really need to read more. Luckily it was only one, normally they commit suicide in bulk. Like 20 or more, if one is wanting to die the other follow it ashore.

They should have called you to do CPR, if that did not work, meaning the creature died, then you should have taken it to the PM Hospital to do an autopsy…or better yet your personal LAB…your kitchen..

what you wanted them to do? call the FBI? then we would also fined something negative to say..when will we ever learn..some of us should stop wasting our mouths….

doing test will bring it back? or you’re just mad they did not invite you to the funeral? I was there when they read the will HE/SHE left you nothing…..

      RIP
      FISHY…
