A tropical storm traveling within the Leeward Islands does not pose any threat to Dominica.
This is according to Acting Senior Meteorological Officer Cheryl Leblanc, who indicated that the Tropical Storm Colin was formed about 5 a.m. this morning.
Colin, the third tropical storm of the Atlantic Hurricane season, currently has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph, and is 840 miles east-southeast of the Leeward Islands up to press time.
Leblanc informed this online publication that the storm is expected to pass north-east of the Leeward Islands by tomorrow evening. Dominica is located south of the Leeward Island chain.
“There is no need for panic. All persons have to do is listen to their radio,” she added.
The island will nonetheless be affected by inclement weather. This afternoon and tonight’s weather forecast is partly cloudy to cloudy with some scattered showers, according to the Meteorological Office.
“This general motion is expected to continue for the next day or two. On this forecast track, the centre of Colin will pass well to the northeast and north of the Leeward Islands late Wednesday and early Thursday,” the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami reported in its 5 a.m. advisory.
