First Caribbean brightens up Christmas for the elderly

FCIB presents cheque to St. Vincent de Paul

The elderly and needy of the communities of Good Hope, San Sauveur and Petite Soufriere had good reason, other than the birth of Christ, to celebrate this Christmas.

That’s because CIBC First Caribbean made a donation of EC$8100.00 to the Martin De Pores branch of St. Vincent De Paul Society for use in its Christmas treat to the Elderly and needy of the area.

A release from the bank states that the “Christmas gift”,  made a few days before Christmas, was part of the Bank’s Christmas donation to the needy and elderly of the region.

FCIB’s Business Support Officer, Rhona Lawrence, in making the presentation, explained that the bank made donations to the various Salvation Armies of the region. However, since Dominica does not have a Salvation Army Society, the donation was made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society which is the equivalent of the Salvation Army, following a request for assistance from that Organization.

Ruth Augustine, a junior member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, received the donation on behalf of the organization and thanked the bank saying that this was going to be the best Christmas treat for the elderly of the area in very many years since this was the largest donation ever received by the Society.

The request to FCIB was made by Cynthia Stephenson, who is the president of the St. Vincent de Paul and a past Unsung Hero of the Bank.  She showered praise on the bank for continuing to look after the less fortunate of the Island.

It was such a kind and generous thing to do for the elderly of these communities. Let’s hope they make excellent use of it. In everything give thanks.
