
The Dominican public is set to experience a different type of entertainment with the upcoming event “Nou sé Histoire,” a Circus Arts Festival, centered around various forms of circus arts, including juggling, aerial acts, and acrobatics. The inaugural event is slated for Saturday, May 31, at Caapi Cottages in Cochrane. According to a statement by organizing group Waitucirque, it aims to provoke important societal discussions, by using the circus arts as a medium for personal expression. Furthermore, Khade Ira Elwin, the festival’s main organizer, emphasizes the importance of creativity in storytelling within this artistic framework.
The festival promises to be an engaging experience for families and individuals of all ages, said the press release. Attendees will have the opportunity not only to observe performances but also to participate in a range of interactive workshops scheduled for the morning. These workshops will cover diverse art forms such as trapeze, juggling, tightrope walking, crochet, and improvised theatre, making it accessible and enjoyable for people of varying skill levels. The culmination will be featured performances by both local and international circus artists, including special acts from the local improvised theatre group, Mission Improvable.
WaituCirque describes itself as a circus arts group dedicated to promoting the benefits and excitement of circus arts across Dominica. In addition to staging performances, WaituCirque focuses on developing a vibrant circus culture on the island through workshops and collaborations with international circus institutions, including a renowned school in Germany, CircArtive. By providing access to expert training and performance opportunities, the press release shared that WaituCirque aims to inspire Dominicans, particularly the youth, to engage with circus arts.
Tickets for the festival can be purchased online or at a local vendor Ora Arani, Cork Street, Roseau. with the ticket price including shuttle service from Canefield to Cochrane.
