Fontaine thankful for achievement in Grand Fond constituency

Fontaine said
Fontaine said he came back to serve Dominica

Former International Monetary Fund (IMF) economist and United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for the Grand Fond constituency, Dr Thomson Fontaine, has said he is thankful for what he has achieved in that community.

“I came back to serve the people of Dominica and the people of my constituency.  No matter where I was in the world, I always came back to this village because this village gave me everything that I needed to survive and to make it big on the worst day…,” Dr. Fontaine said at a meeting in that constituency on Wednesday night.

He said he decided to return to Dominica in order to contribute to the country.

“I have decided in the prime of my youth to come back to Dominica to contribute to this country.  It is a mission I believe that is ordained by God, because in the end it is a very easy decision for me to make,” he explained.

He added, “I could not go and sleep at nights, I could not be driving down the road with my posh or expensive vehicle and remember that the villagers, my friends that I grew up with struggling to make ends meet in Dominica. It was not right. And I thought that I would come back to help and to bring something to the community.”

Fontaine told the gathering that if the UWP fails to provide Dominica with 5,000 jobs in the first 3 years if elected into office, “you will be looking for a new representative in five years time…..because unless we can meet our promise to the people of Dominica, I will not be satisfied.”

Thompson will be going up against Dominica Labour Party (DLP) candidate, Ivor Stephenson, in the December 8 general election.

And oh! By the way, why did you not come back when you were gainfully employed. Now you are dead broke and now you are back ready to serve? Remember when the country was in a crisis our money was not enough for you- do you remember? Thanks, but no thanks.

  3. Really?

It is indeed sad to see how people think. They turn a blind eye to the locals who contribute to the development of the country and use every opportunity they have to bring them down. All who have eyes please see. All who have brains and memories that are better than those of chickens please remember!!! Ivor Stephenson was the one and continues to be the one who works with you all. He did a lot for the community before he joined a political party. He has provided jobs for the community on his farm and at his gas station. He has been part of several organizations and used his vehicle to provide transportation of items to events that help develop the community and he has done much more. As a parliamentary representative he has done so much more. STOP being IGNORANT. Is he too quiet for you all? Does he have to list what he has done? Stop being jealous. You all don’t want to see the people who grew with you all develop, but will support someone you all know nothing about. If the pattern continues you will soon dislike Fontaine and drain him of all his energy too.

God will continue to bless Ivor Stephenson. God knows what’s best. If God thinks that he needs to continue as parl. rep. he will. IF God feels that it is not part of his plan for him then so be it.

It is appalling that anyone should misconstrued the words of the people of Grand Fond district. This is your home turf and you are so unpopular and resented, I definitely think you and LL are to be blamed for your party fiasco. If you know you are a controversial figure you should not put yourself in the lime light. As a Dr. you could have sought to make your contributions in another arena. You cannot be trusted! You brought it on yourself.

Dr Fontain is the best man for our constituency under UWP Ivor had a thriving GAS station making lots of money under this Labour Government which he is apart of he had to close down the Gas station why cause his government cripple the banana industry and bring poverty in our constituency we going all the way with the doctor

    • Really?
      November 16, 2014

That is untrue. There were 2 thefts at the gas station. The police decided to include politics and never attempted to find the culprit(s). What do you know about profit made on gasoline sales? What about those who refused to pay their debts? I cannot stand for nonsense. Yes the economy may have contributed to it, but get your facts straight! There are many factors that affect businesses and the economy was a problem world wide.

Dr. Fontaine, I say thank you with a board smile across my face to you for getting into the ring to help elevate the pain of our beloved country and its people most importantly.

We the bright and open minds in Grand Fond have seen the respectful man you are and one that is solid to stand on his own two feet compared to your opponent.
You have shown us what a real man is.
You have shown us how resilient you are, because you never give up. You keep fighting till the end.
You’ve taken risks and will continue to take risks, because that is what a real man does.
You’ve shown us that your self-esteem is beyond high and you will defeat the negativity that will try to denigrate your great name.

In you Dr. Fontaine, we have seen the qualities of natural leadership, something which can’t be bought from the grocery store. I am very proud to be from this little village of Grand Fond that has produced such a fine and intelligent man as you Dr. Fontaine and for this we will continue to rally with you till the end. You always stood for the people of Grand Fond and most of all Dominica.

You are bright. You are strong. You are motivated. You are determined. You are what Grand Fond needs and most of all what Dominica needs to removed us from this plight and spell we are facing.
They laughed at your words when you told us of the great investment Dominica could make from some of the produce, bushes and herbs we have in abundance, but I say to them little do they know about the importance of Vetiver for one of the high-end cologne makers, Curve. Curve for Men by Liz Claiborne is a Aromatic Green fragrance for men.

    http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Liz-Claiborne/Curve-for-Men-1778.html

So my people be wise and choose wisely between the two. Are we looking for a competent man who will stand on his own feet and be profession to us always. Or, are we still digging for representation from someone that is a coward and will accept the insulting, unpleasant and despicable things from a group of people and keep quiet all because he needs their vote.

We need true representation in the Constituency of Grand Fond, Rivere Cyrique and Morne Juane and I say with Dr. Fontaine we will get the representation we deserve and one that remains professional always compared to the lousy and unprofessional representation from his opponent.

May God bless you Dr. Fontaine and may God bless Team Dominica the United Workers Party.

How easy is it for a man/woman to run away from a country where they have not been fiscally responsible and run to their home country under the pretense that they didn’t want to be rich in another country while others are suffering in their home country. I would love to hear the whole story.

Thomson Fontaine, has said he is thankful for what he has achieved in that community meaning Grand Fond.

My question is Thompson, what have you given back to that community you are so thankful for?

You worked with the IMF for so long earning a good salary and not even the pre-school you donated a book to. From time to time these institutions change computers not even one you send back to help improve the skills of the children in the village. You should be ashame of yourself to stand up on a political platform in that same village Grand Fond to make such a statement.

So why do you want the people of the village and to a larger extent the constituency to lose what they are getting from this present Labour Party Government by voting you in.

The wise men came from the East that is why we are going all the way with LABOURRRRRRRR

Dr. Fountain, all that is good and the 5,000 jobs is absolutely nothing when you really give much thought to it, but at least it is a start in the right direction. However, if I may point out one negative, all I have read about is the 5,000 jobs, is the media not reporting your entire speech? If what the media is reporting is indeed all you have said then I am very disappointed in that speech.

Dr. Fountain, I expect and demand more from you and the UWP as to the plans to bring the country forward. At the end of the day, could you and your party give me and other Independent voters and thinkers like myself, an alternative? We need options (alternative and solutions), and that quite frankly is lacking in both your message and that of your party’s overall message. Can you direct me to a copy of your party’s manifesto and your specific goals and plans for your constituency and the country by extension?

    Thank you Dr. Fountain!
