Amid silent sobbing and gentle funeral hymns, former carnival queen contestant Aisha Mark was laid to rest on Tuesday.
Tears came easily to everyone in attendance as they said their final farewell to the young 33-year-old mother who succumbed to breast cancer on February 6th, 2014.
Speaking at the funeral service held at the St. Gerard’s Hall, Father Branker John, reminded family and friends to always hold on to faith even when times may seem difficult.
“When it seems that God has abandoned his people, the people of God should not abandon their faith and their trust in God. When everything seems to be falling apart around the people of God, people of God do not fall apart themselves but hold on to real hope,” he said.
John encouraged those in attendance to continue to pray for Mark and continue to make Jesus a part of their daily lives.
Mark, who once worked as an announcer on state-owned DBS Radio, was a teacher at Dominica Grammar School when she passed away.
She was laid to rest at the Roseau Catholic Cemetery.
She contested the Miss Dominica Pageant in 2002.
It is so sad to see how cancer stole this beautiful woman away from us. However I know of a young woman in our community who faked having a “brain tumor” just to get money from a man. It sounds unbelievable but it’s true. What a character!
May Aisha’s soul rest in peace.

In this world We Were Blessed WITH THE SAVIOR WHO WAS WILLING TO TAKE our place and receive the payment (wages)for sin which is death. HE MADE HIMSELF AVAILABLE THE SACRIFICE.HE PRAYED FOR Us HIS DISCIPLES,TO HIS FATHER THAT HE KEEP (ATTEND TO,PRESERVE) Us in this world. HE MADE PROMISES Which Are Being Fulfilled and Blessings.
HE HAS ASKED us HIS Yoke Is Easy and HIS burden is light. And Ask OF THE FATHER Anything IN HIS NAME AND IT Shall Be Given To Us.
JESUS THE ONLY NAME BY Which We Can Be Saved.Receive HIM,For As Many As Receive HIM To Them Gave HE THE POWER TO BE CALLED THE Sons OF GOD.

Dno Thank You For Sharing The Information . Thank You To Those Who Contribute in Every Good Way .
Let Us PRAISE THE LORD. SO GREAT IS THE LORD.
There is no reason that she should be dead at 33. Nothing like censorship DNO.
God knows the reason why He called her at this young age. Throughout the world many young people die and even younger.
Two days ago an 18 year-old woman was killed by an undercover police vehicle in Toronto. A woman who was interviewed said, “She is so young.” I have not yet heard/read how this accident occurred and whose fault it is.
Yesterday I heard a man on US Catholic Radio spoke of his 32 year-old wife who died. It is sad to know of this.
Dominicans have died in other countries as Toronto at a young age. Even though some are older, their passing was sudden and not expected. We go through this all the time. As we age, it will increase. Tomorrow I will be attending a funeral of a male person who died suddenly.
Take heart. God is in control. Just give it all to Our Lord. Ask him, if it is his Holy Will for a long life with health and strength. While you have life always do good for this will follow you to eternity. God bless you!
There is no reason that she should be dead at 33 from breast cancer. Time to get rid of all of these pesticides and estrogenic mimickers that are causing the reproductive cancers, that includes the plastics so commonly used that leach into the water and food. Just about all of the plastics that they are using each to some degree and they know it. Prevention is the best route.
There are many contributing factors which cause this. Are you aware that one of the causes as far as I have been hearing is contraceptives? You know that this is a foreign object. It should never enter the body, be placed or ingested.
There are estrogenic pharmaceuticals also that are used that can lead to cancer. Pesticides (Round-up, grammazone) and BPA (plastics) are estrogen mimickers that cause mutations leading to mainly reproductive cancers.
Dominicans too hypocrite, when u alive they do everything to bring you down, and when u dead they come with there crocodile tears.
Morihei you are generalizing. This does not apply to everyone. To begin with many of us do not know her. It is appropriate to offer our condolence to the family and state some kind words.
Some of us write from the heart. At the same time we keep in mind that one day we will surely follow. This is another reason why we should ever be kind while speaking the truth and standing up for the truth in words especially at a sad time as that. It assists to strengthen the families who are mourning the loss of loved ones. It is customary that we do so.
Such beauty in the Isle Of Beauty!! Well done Sister.
RIp my friend,.will miss u.
May you find peace Aisha.
Very sad. R.I.p
Until then, my heart will go on singing…
until the day, my eyes behold the city…
Until the day, God calls me home.
Be strong in the Lord, Aisha left a good legacy. May God bless her family and friends at this time.
This is to let us know, we should love each other more no matter race, religion, political affiliations etc. We are like flowers, some of us will die before each other, but we will die. No Question about that. We just have to make sure we are right with the God of Heaven and Earth.
I don’t know her, but it seems she was a beautiful and loving human being, moreover she was a teacher. Right now we could only pray for her family she left behind, the children she taught, and cherish her memories. Sorry, she is dead so we cannot pray for her. We hoping to meet her on the other side.
Aisha Mark, now a soul in eternity, who was faithful to God and to His (your) Church, persevering to the end, we know that God had better and higher plans for you. It is said, “God protects us from something worst than death.” O death, where is your victory?”
God gave you the time to make amends and to ask his forgiveness. He knew all the good you did on this earth, known much more to him than anyone on earth.
You obviously received the Last Rites of the Catholic Church, the final anointing of the sick which helped your transition.
Then, the Holy Mass, the Sacrifice of the Mass, Our Lord’s Last Supper. What a blessing to have received these Sacraments. God ensured that you got it all prior to leaving this world and being laid to rest. This is a sign that you are well on your way to Heaven.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen!
May her soul and other souls of “the faithful departed”, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen!
To her family who now mourn her loss, it must have been difficult for you to know that she would soon be leaving you. I feel your sorrow.
My heartfelt sympathy to you and God’s consolation. As Father said, take heart, be strong and keep the faith. God is with you. God bless you!
I do not know her. However, it is so sad, she was so young. I am tempted to say why, but only God knows. Let’s pray that the family will be comforted during this time of sorrow. Let’s also pray for a cure and that those who have been diagnosed will be healed. God bless Dominica.
RIP Aisha, you were one of my outstanding student, jovial and at the same time humble. Your inspiration continued right into the classroom as a teacher and to your family. Gone but not forgotten, I know now that you are in a better place. God be with you.
she always said hi when she sees me.her smile was so contagiuos
r.i.p ms.mark remember those good days in English class sigh gonna miss u
The dead do not need prayers.
You do not know what you are talking about. If only you knew. You better speak for yourself. You may the person/soul that will not need prayers where you will be going in eternity. God rewards the good and punishes the wicked. Read James, The Power of the Tongue.
How do you know that? Did you go into the afterlife to do your research? All you always there to say what’s it and what’s not without proof
It is in the Holy Bible but they are not well-versed in Holy Scripture as much as they profess to be. The Book of Maccabees is one. There is a chapter in it which refers to praying for them and to give alms in their memory. If their souls are in Purgatory, they cannot help themselves but we can help them.
Some of their leaders took this Book out of the Bible. This is why they make such an ignorant statement.
Those who follow the false teachings of certain leaders will never become spiritually enlightened and not well-versed in Holy Scripture.
The same way no one knows where you go when you die. You can’t pray for a dead person, it is useless! You might want to pray for their family and friends, however.
You speak like a fool! If u took time off to read your bible you’d know that you can’t pray for the dead. It clearly says “after death is judgement, there is no repentance after death”. Them priest self contradicting the bible.
You’re right. They don’t.
How So?
This is not at all biblical. Check Maccabees. May he soul rest in eternal peace
It is in Maccabees. There are a few more passages in the New Testament which refer to them.
God is merciful. He created Purgatory where the souls that are not yet ready (pure) to enter Heaven and not bad enough for Hell will be purified prior to entering Heaven.
We did not make this up. It is not fictitious. It exists and will be until Judgment Day. Visionaries have also been given visions of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory.
Be thankful to God and praise him for Purgatory where souls will be cleansed. People do not die in perfection of soul. Otherwise, nearly every soul on earth, religious or not including your own would not qualify to enter Heaven. Better believe it! This is for the deniers and doubters.
When it seems that God has abandoned his people, the people of God should not abandon their faith and their trust in God. When everything seems to be falling apart around the people of God, people of God do not fall apart themselves but hold on to real hope,” he said—News article.
Jesus to us, through His disciples, as He was ascending into heaven: And lo I am with you always; even to the end of the ages. Matthew 28: 20
This would mean that God does not turn His back on His people; but many a times He needs to cause us to grow in faith as we build hope in His promises to us –those are the times we encounter those hard times; even to the point of losing our loved ones in death–but the Hope in us keep us comforted, that the passing away of the body is not the real death at all–there is Life on the other side of the grave for God’s chosen people; who passed away with the revival of the soul, the Life that is the Light of man by his faith in God’s Person of Love– Jesus Christ.
To the loved ones of Aisha Mark I advise you to be sure that you are now living in the Spirit on her behalf–if she was a child of God; that is the way He continues to remember her, through you who remain in the body.
But I know that you are a sad and in times like these I have a beautiful prayerful song that always gives me the strength to carry on–here it is below, I have used the plural of the pronouns; because I am sure there is more than one of you. I hope it will help you all to find some form of comfort.
Where do we go from here
When test of faith is drawing near
Touch our hearts and guide our lips in prayer
Through the grace of God alone
We can cast away those fears we have known
And free ourselves from the depths of deep despair
Lead us through the darkness
And through each gloomy day
Take our hands, O precious Lord
And guide us on our way
Give us strength that we might find
Abiding faith and peace of mind
So we won’t ask, where do we go from here.
Blessings if peace and joy, which will definitely keep every one of you moving towards hope and not despair.
She was also a french teacher at the goodwill sec school which was neva mentioned..R.I.P Miss Mark
That’s hardly important now..
Miss Mark
God is in control.
I have had conversations with several people from home this past week, and this should become a priority for our Health Department. Isn’t anyone concerned that with our population the percentage of women (moreover under 50) who are dying of breast cancer? I can understand and was assured that everyone is becoming more aware, but my main concern is “we should try to set up some form of study to find out what is the cause of such a high percentage.” In the past 10 years I KNOW 8 ladies who died of breast cancer in Dominica and right now I know of 2 young women presently who’ve been diagnosed.
To my former classmate…farewell you will be missed. To the family and friends be strong for the Good Lord knows what he is doing. Sometimes we may not understand but if we have faith we will know that God is in control. R.I.P …Return if Possible
Hottie I know it’s pointless in praying for the dead but don’t forget that there’s a family grieving at this moment and we need to support them with our prayers or any comforting means it would take to help them absorb this loss
Dnt know u, But it always so sad.Praying for her family.
rip Aisha
RIP Ms Mark, I know how painful this is for your family, same age with my daughter, I cannot imagine how devastating that would be for me. To the family hold strong, please give all the love and attention you can to her children.
May God Bless you (the family) as you continue to play that motherly role that the children need badly.
How can u pray for the dead?
Ok Hottie, not everyone is aware of that…but this is not what the grieving family wants or need to hesr at this time, be more sensitive..you keep repeating the same thing. .what about words of sympathy and encouragement?
I hope that she had received Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. The alternative is too terrible to contemplate. Prayers do not help the dead, they only deceive the living.
Rest in peace my Sister and daughter if the soil. I will remember you in my prayers. God bless your soul.
Anonymous, SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!! Here, show some decency and let the people grieve how they wish. You malkassay Dominican. Shut it up already.
people need to know the truth. we are doing more harm when we allow people to think that they can live how they want and when theyre dead the priest or whoever can pray and make it all well and good. but thats a lie from the pit of hell. Jesus loves you all…surrender your lives to Him now!
Thats my good frend, Damn
My dearest friend from high school.
I will cherish those years spent with you
May God always lay his hands on your family, and forever provide for your children
Xx
Please let’s continue in our fight against cancer
the embodiment of a great public servant and teacher. She worked hard and gave everything her best effort. To all she encountered she was very empathetic, caring and loving. Always considerate to others. I will miss that great smile of yours and the comforting words we often shared may you rest in peace and may we continue to embrace any opportunity to provide your children with the guidance and whatever positive support we can provide to them so that they will develop to become wonderful and positive contributors to the society as you would have raised them to become. RIP my dear friend
sympathy to the family, friends, n students of both icons who were laid to rest on that same day. But alas those priests can say things eh. Keep praying for her? It won’t do any good now because she is dead. Pray for the strength of the family etc in this trying time.

Wowww. Very sad news. My prays are with the Mark family. May her soul rest in peace
May the Almighty strengthen the family. The Master is in control. We must serve him during moments of joy, as well as, sadness. The smile on the young lady’s face can be interpreted in so many ways, however, love stands out. Let us all love and serve the Master, stop putting our trust in man and luxury, instead reach out to one another. Family, your loved one has made her contribution. Keep the candle burning, remember, God is awesome!
Rip miss mark. We will all miss you. One the my favourite teachers.
real sad. journey well aisha
Prayers for family. Great words from the priest.
When I taught you at Grammar School … that genuine smile on your face was a reminder that there was still beauty in the world. May those you loved and those who loved you always remember your smile. Farewell my dear. Until then…
Wow, how sad.
She deserve her rest.r.I.p isha.God has taken your pain away
RIP . Blessings and Strength to your loved ones
RIP my friend
R.I.P. Gone so soon
so sad so young, sympathies to ur family and friends.
omg rest in pest miss mark
Can you tell us what your comment means? It does not appear to be a compliment or sympathy. The least you could have done was to express your sympathy. God has taken note. Some people condemn themselves by their very own words. What will your future and end be like and in eternity?
i think Mazie finds “rest in pest funny”
R.I.P friend and classmate
Rest In Peace
I’m so sadden by her lost. Such a great woman carnival queen and sports woman. You will be missed my dear. Gone too soon
